I’ve got to be really desperate to go to Walmart. The one close to me is called the murder Walmart. Someone got shot there last week in a drug buy in the parking lot.

Walmart is literally 5 mins away and target is 20. I mostly order online and either pickup or get it delivered (including groceries). I never think about Target.

One of our local Walmart’s just closed for the weekend for “additional cleaning and stocking” while reports say they had 16-18+ infected employees and supposedly 27 over the past two weeks.

Anywhere that suddenly is closing for that reason has positives. They just don't want to say it out loud. Knoxville has had a few businesses like that.
For nicer business practice news, a local brewery posted that they were closing this past Thursday bc a few employees had possible exposure. No positive tests. They then posted on Thursday evening that they were going to close for a week just to be sure and were going to have everyone retest since you can test negative at the beginning. I appreciated them erring on the side of caution and being up front about it.

Tbh I’m surprised more businesses don’t do this. Like, if everyone just made a little sacrifice for the year we could have some semblance of normalcy. It seems like the most sustainable model to me beyond “we’re open, good luck!”
One business I visited for my work had specifically paid employees that are rewarded on catching people without their mask on properly. Like that’s job creation right there and they’ve been incredibly effective throughout the pandemic.
Speaking of work one of my coworkers who I had to meet outside with two weeks ago tested positive this weekend. Since it was outside I feel good about not having it now, but getting tested tomorrow. My closest call with this thing so far so fingers crossed.
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows suggested that the spread of the virus is a foregone conclusion: “We’re not going to control the pandemic,” Meadows said. “We are going to control the fact that we get vaccines, therapeutics and other mitigation.”
Where the fuck do these idiots get off? Let’s not even try. Let’s just sit on our maskless ass and wait for a vaccine. Fuck you Mark Meadows.
Sorry, but I dealt with maskholes all weekend long in my pharmacy. I’m up to here with it.

I somehow got on a kick of looking at some of the earlier pages in this thread this morning. Thank goodness people didn’t just ignore social distancing and quarantine recommendations and let deaths go way past those higher estimates.
In some more positive news, per Dr. Fauci US estimates have dropped from between 100k-200k to 60k for deaths and the peak deaths is predicted to be April 11th, all probably due to social distancing and quarantines.

I mean if we actually did do a full shut down for even a week or two back in March/April who knows how that would have played out. Everyone is in different circumstances, but I'd be completely fine if they announced a 2 week (real) shut down. I liked the idea of scheduled shut downs, like a 3 week on 1 week off thing. Oh well.
Honestly I’m surprised dems haven’t been campaigning on a well organized shut down. Countries that had thorough plans and strict enforcement fared the pandemic better both in terms of lives lost and economic recovery. Look at Canada right now.
no worries, it's shitty but it's the right decision.
most fucked up part is our dumbass mayor just giving a political stump speech blaming everything on trump meanwhile our homeless problem is spiraling out of control and rather than do anything about it they simply clear the camps and leave giant ugly rocks and those plastic orange fences everywhere so people can't even sleep on the street + our homeless shelters are horrible covid hot spots.

Random Rona benefit - no work Holiday Luncheon this year. Obviously not worth it, but since it is what it is, might as well appreciate what I can appreciate. They’re also giving us the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve off, but there was a pretty good chance they’d have done that anyway.

The sad part of this is I guarantee the Denver mayor is better than nearly any representative I’ve had my whole life in MO
