hasn't it already been pretty proven that getting covid doesn't lead to herd immunity because of the many new strains + antibodies lasting a couple months only.
this is just a preprint, but the results suggest that infected and recovered individuals may still have a rapid antibody response upon virus re-exposure eight months after original infection.
this is also just a preprint, but it suggests that the new variants, while clearly more transmissible, respond better to treatment then the original strain. so less likely to cause death. IIRC this type of mutation is consistent with how other viruses tend to mutate. by killing less people, viruses are able to replicate themselves faster which, at the risk of personifying a virus, is ultimately their "goal".
I think two people who would be able to inflect positive change more so than Joe Rogan in people getting the vaccine would be LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. LeBron going completely silent has been very disheartening as someone who is a huge fan. I don't think any one person in this country could mobilize more people to get the vaccine with a strong PR campaign than LeBron.

I'm not sure about getting covid, but the vaccines are believed to have antibodies to last forever. There may be a 3rd booster shot to nail the South African and Brazilian variants, but the mRNA vaccines are doing very well on those variants as of now.
yeah I was only talking about herd immunity through people getting sick, the vaccine seems to be very effective which is why people refusing to get it is so frustrating. I work in an extremely liberal city in a restaurant and it feels like my coworkers are 50-50 on getting the vaccine. I'm just not confident and I don't see forced vaccinations coming any time soon.
I feel pretty confident that if it actually looks like we will stall out at 60%, Biden will mandate getting the shot on some level. A lot of employers are already starting to mandate it. Cant really start a mandate until everyone can get it, but once everyone can, the mandates will likely roll in.
They're intending to mandate it at our school in the fall but can't until it has full FDA approval (not emergency approval).

I think NBA fans are probably more likely to get the vaccine regardless than Joe Rogan fans. That said, if Lebron and Kyrie are our best hope we're fucked. I do like the conspiracy that Lebron can't get the vax publicly because he was able to secretly secure vaccinations for all the Lakers players months ago.

The stereotypical white men who listen to Joe Rogan are the largest group of unvaccinated people in the country.
this is probably true in a total number count since there are so many white men but in a per capita count, white men are getting vaccinated at a high rate. In virginia, which reports vaccination per 100 for each ethnic group, the leaders are native american, then it goes latino, white, then a big gap then Asian then Black.
I'd also add my lebron comment is not just about racial lines, its also about the idea that the peak athlete in the country is promoting the vaccine would be very important. That dude spends $1M a year on his body

Rogan fell for the 1% problem, giving a position to a risk that is clearly not the same for him or any 21 year old he knows. A rich 21 year old can theoretically get away with not getting vaxxd because they don't need to ride a school bus, or worry about what would happen if they infect a parent with crappy healthcare and various hereditary health problems.
I actually thought we would reach the vaccine plateau sooner than we did. I still believe that there a lot of people that will end up getting the vaccine if it is easy and convenient. Clinics open to walk ins are still really new in most places. Most of the people that have already been vaccinated were those that were willing and able to jump through hoops to get an appointment. Now we need to enact smart strategies to get everyone else. I find the level of vaccine hesitancy in this country terribly frustrating just like you all but I still think we can get a good chunk of those that are unvaccinated vaccinated.

Some care about whats going to happen and others dont, its pretty clear who does and who doesnt. The covid waiver is just a bunch of bs and it should die a fiery death. The big obstacle is privacy and thats where people will fight them which is dumb. Even though LN and AEG are working with companies to be able to integrate vaccine data and such into their apps its like the end of the world to the anti vaxxers. If thats the case they should go back to flip phones. I dont know why everyone thinks that a temporary measure will end up being permanent. Maybe cause “its only lockdown for 2 weeks” got so embedded into our brains and the constant goal post moving just makes anyone think the worst and nothing else. Right now its really getting bad in the uk cause the government isnt willing to help promoters and events get the insurance they need to even happen. Their whole June re opening is not going as well as it seemed to be cause some fests in mid August already threw in the towel recently.
They've already approved the 3rd vaccine they want everyone to take. CNN already said there will be a 4th wave. CNN said they are bartering show/restaurant access for vaccine acceptance. 2 week to bend the curve. tons of past government/war stuff like patriot act after 911. etc...

My employer has decided to require vaccines for the entire company. Being 1. a construction company and 2. located in Missouri, I'm wondering how this is going to go over with the majority of our employees. People in the office, like me, seem to be fine with it, but I could see this being an issue for on-site workers.

We know youre Joe Rogan's number 1 dick sucker btw. Im sure you had friends in England who put on the yellow stars on their shirts and protested this weekend cause we're the nazis and not you.

You are a moron. Take this anti-vax bullshit to Reddit, 4chan, or wherever you people hang out these days

The President before Biden got a Vaccine in the White House. He refused the photo opp because he didn't want to be photographed without the power suit. I think that photo could have got the voluntary vaccine number a couple points higher.

65+ population should get it. Healthy people under that age without underlying conditions maybe shouldn't. Even the previous head of Pfizer Michael Yeadon said that.
it's going to be wild when all these festivals coming up later this year are superspreader events for a 5th wave
Where as the Florida/Texas superspreader events? It's been 6-8weeks of masklessless and 40k in a baseball stadium.
Please don't bring Texas into your anti-vax nonsense. Cities took it on themselves to still require masks in businesses. Austin, for example, still requires masks by overriding Abbott's orders. Also, we went through such a bad wave recently, the common thought is that many people have built immunity just from having it already. So, piss off.

Where to start with this pile of mierda?! Fucking eh, just terrible.

Being pro-vaccine for a moment - what is the opinion on this board regarding natural immunity and how it fits into 65% vaccine immunity surpassing the 75% threshold needed for herd immunity? High profile media haven't touched this topic in 6 months.
I’m in the back woods of Tennessee. Got a cabin. We stopped at a local dive for lunch and got laughed at for wearing masks. I was told Nashville needs to pack up and move to California. I ate my lunch, paid my bill, left a nice tip, put my mask back on and left.

CNN aired those 3 stories. Need links?
I've said certain segments of the population SHOULD take the vaccine.
If everyone else here is OK with double vaccines in 2021, way are you annoyed at officials saying you need one annually?
I'm not. Give me a shot yearly. Give me a shot every four months if it's going to get us out of this mess.
As for the "certain segments" thing...that's horseshit. I'm well under 65 and healthy as fuck - I've run marathons, practice yoga regularly, and surf every weekend I can. My last physical before the pandemic, my doctor jokingly said I'd easily live past 100. Now, it's been 13 months since I caught the virus, and I still have symptoms. My wife, who lives a healthier lifestyle than I do, still hasn't fully recovered her sense of taste and smell, and some things are just permanently different for her on that front, and if you think that's NBD, I can assure you that not being able to, for example, smell if meat has gone bad or if something is burning is a real fucking problem, not to mention the psychological impact of it all. Neither of us ever had to go to the hospital, thankfully, and we're both still here, but if the vaccines had existed prior to our infections, knowing what we know now, we would have jumped at the chance to take them. Just because you don't die from this shit doesn't make it a walk in the fucking park.
Or, you know, if I'm not a good enough example for you, perhaps we should check in on 23 year-old professional fucking athlete Jayson Tatum:
In conclusion, I repeat my invitation to you to fuck all the way off. Just, like, all the way. Like, if you've fucked off for a while, and you think you've fucked off enough, and you're wondering if you should fuck off some more, the answer is, "Yes, continue to fuck off."

I think we are usually a little too hard on Supre. He can be a bother sometimes for sure (dropping “scoops”) but at least he does a great job of posting updates about things
