I am really not doing well with transitioning to no mask in public. I definitely still wear them in all shops and at work. Went to my first concert Thursday and the venue said all staff was vaccinated and tested, and if you were too you could not wear a mask? Was strange but nice.
I did have to get out my teacher voice today at the grocery store bc this particular one is still requiring masks but some chad and Karen didn’t think the rules applied to them. They were letting one of their kids DIG IN THE COFFEE BEANS. 😑😑😑 I did say “excuse me could you please not let your child dig in the coffee barrels during a pandemic?”. The lady said ok and took the kid’s hand. 🤷🏻♀️I dunno. People always get mad at me and tell me it’s not worth it to say anything but I feel like that’s why people do that kind of crap? Bc they know people won’t ever call them out. I’m just so over us being here bc certain people are so selfish.
You're supposed to record them for tiktok. Not say anything.

I am still wearing either a KN95 or an N95 any time I go indoors (public spaces - I'll de-mask if visiting friends in their homes where I know for a fact everyone is fully inoculated), 100%, no exceptions.
Outside, I'm maskless unless I'm interacting with someone who prefers to be masked, and then I'll do it out of courtesy.
Still not sure how I'll do it or handle any sort of close-quarters outdoor gathering, though.

California is dropping mask mandate on June 15th, so I'm basically trying to squeeze in fun stuff with my kid while I can because we won't be able to go to any crowded/indoor places together for a while. This is so dumb. Like how hard is it to wear a mask indoors in public?! At least until everyone is able to get a shot.

Exactly how I felt once NY did the same a few weeks back.
I do the “wear the mask on the ear” thing. I trust the vax enough that I’m not going to get COVID.
When I check out or deal with someone that works there I pop it on in solidarity cause it’s got to suck to be in their fish bowl wearing a mask still making 10 dollars an hour after being a key source in getting us through the last year.
Edit: that said. I’ll probably put it back on next flu season. Cause it’s been cool as shit going almost two years now with out getting any sicker than normal allergies and hangovers.
I think the weird thing was that basically no one in my neighborhood in the past 15 months was wearing masks outside until about two months ago; this lasted for about a month until the mask guidance was relaxed. I still have no idea why this happened.
Myself, I no longer were a mask outdoors at all but I do in stores. I've noticed that when I'm in Chicago, 90% or more of people are wearing masks inside to places (except bars/restaurants, which is a whole other issue entirely); in the suburbs it's about 75/25. (Fascinatingly, when I was at the gay bar in St. Louis, a drag queen asked "How many of you all are fully vaccinated?" and literally everyone in the audience raised their hands. go gays or whatever.) At this point, when I see someone not wearing a mask I don't really care, but I think the situation is a lot different for people with small children; if they truly were vaccinated it wouldn't be a problem, but, well, we know how it's been going.
Today was the first day vaccinated team members at work could go maskless. I was going to keep it on for awhile yet, but, man, did it feel good to rub it in the anti-vaxxers’ faces today!

we had a leap day party last year, and that's the last time i saw pretty much any of my friends. spending this weekend out in the woods in new york with everybody who is fully vaccinated! i'm so excited, i'm not even mad about peeing in the woods for a couple nights.
It really shouldn’t be hard for me to not care about idiots who refuse to get vaccinated bc I actually can’t stand most humans but I can’t do it!! I’m so afraid I could give it to someone and never know and they die. What’s wrong with me 😭😭

Empathy?
That is nice of you to say but it feels more like paranoia at times. 😂
It does feel ridiculous to see 14k new coronavirus cases a day and feel some relief, but also…it’s nice to just see the numbers keep going down.
My brain completely stopped being able to properly process numbers about this time last year. There's absolutely no sense of scale. 5K, 10K, 50K, 200K..cases, deaths, percentages...it's all just Bad and varying degrees of Worse so I've stopped trying to make sense of this. Sounds kinda like a trauma response now that I'm saying it out loud (which it may be). A way to keep me from emotionally engaging with scary things I can't control.
On a side note, since I threw out my contacts the other night erroneously thinking I had another box, I've been wearing glasses the past couple days and didn't wear a mask in a store today to avoid fogging up my glasses. It was weird. Things I wondered while shopping:
Is this a dick move? (It's not.) Even though it's clearly stated, am I REALLY allowed to have my mask off? (Yes.) Will people think I'm one of THOSE people? (Maybe, but that's okay.) Another maskless person is walking towards me, should I maintain some sort of distance? (Not really, but I did.) Should I wait until this masked person is out of the aisle before going down it? (I did. No need to cause unnecessary discomfort.) Should I put on my mask while going through checkout? (This I did. Not entirely sure why but it felt right.)
The transition back to normality will be an interesting adjustment. You can tell that culture has really changed. The legit concern of being incorrectly perceived as a Republican was an especially interesting one though. Usually the symbols that mark one as a right-winger are not ones I have any interest in adorning. I also was in the minority in terms of being unmasked, which made me feel like I stuck out (though I guess that's okay, just not what I'm used to).
But more importantly I got a pair of orange jeans that I'm super excited about and a Venti cold brew that I will be riding late into the night, so it's been a good day!

I guess if it makes you feel better, I've seen so many unmasked people of all kinds indoors now that I find it virtually impossible to assume what their thoughts are towards, idk, science as a concept.
I still wear them indoors and usually default to assuming that those who aren't are probably Republicans. Given where I live, that's a decent assumption anyways.
In Texas you have been able to get your shot no matter age since beginning of April, so I do think it’s not wrong to be cautious as some may be on the tail end of their shots. My thing is I need to not care so much about those who flat out refuse to get one. I’m trying to think of it as they jumped into quicksand on purpose and then expect me to jump in too when they decide they made a bad choice. I’m not in charge of others being responsible, even tho the teacher in me wants to be. Lol

My concern isn't for people that won't get vaccines, it's for children under twelve who can't yet and won't be able to until September. We went through this whole thing talking about how your mask protects other people more than yourself and now we've left kids to just kinda hope that their masks provide enough protection.

Definitely agree, but I am officially on summer so will not be around any kids except my close friends’ which I see anyways. 💃🏻💃🏻
The district did send out something about masks today since the governor banned them from requiring them after June 4. I was definitely thinking we would be wearing them next year, but if no one sends their kid in one, doesn’t really matter if I’m wearing one at that point.

Yeah, the CDC rolling out that new guidance while Northern schools are still in session has created some confusion. I got a robo call from the school today saying that they weren't planning on changing the policy before the end of the school year. (They go to the 22nd.)

They had sent out something about three weeks ago saying parents could sign a waiver for the kids not to wear a mask if outside and six feet away. I teach prek 4s, so I honestly didn’t even give my parents that option. If they had wanted it, their student would’ve had to play alone bc no way do littles stay 6 feet away. 😂

One brother texted me today to invite me to a cookout this weekend for second brother's housewarming. I ask re: vaccinations since that part of the family skews more conservative, and I haven't seen them during the pandemic. (For those keeping track, this is the side with the grandfather whose funeral I skipped due to concerns about possible exposure and half the people there got Covid.) He responds that most everyone has not gotten their vaccination. I asked for brother's new home address in order to send him something soon for the house. Cannot deal with people who are not vaccinated right now.

My best friend's brother, who is like a second little brother to me because I've known him for almost 30 years, has been yammering on on social media about how much he distrusts the vaccine and wants all of his friends to be safe (from the vaccine). And it's just such a disappointment.

I have a friend who works for the vaccine rollout process in Virginia. I was talking with her about what the breakdown of people who have been resistant to the shot has been. There was a lot of the usual suspects such as "covid is fake," "going to make me sterile," "don't trust pharma companies," there were also two other reasons that stuck with me, which were "I can't afford the vaccine" which she explained to mean that low-income people think you need to pay. The last one which really stuck with me, and if you live in Texas I imagine is, even more, the case there, was in Hispanic populations of "are they going to check my papers when I go to get the vaccine".
So, thinking about those two answers, I have personally decided to keep wearing a mask in places like grocery stores, drug stores, and other places where one can't avoid just living life. But, the recreational places like bars, I'll go without it unless required.
I've got a cruise planned late August that will more than likely require proof of vaccine. Since all I've got is a card from a doctor that says I received two shots of their experimental covid vaccine I might just go get some more vaccine instead of waiting on them to send me my CDC card.
I honestly have no idea anymore about masks. There's no state mandated mask policy in NJ, but individual businesses can enforce a policy of needing to have one on so it just creates this paradox of carrying it around and not knowing if you need one. I've simply been wearing mine because I like the anonymity that sunglasses and a black mask provides.
