Was sick the last 12 days pretty much. Symptoms were just a stuffy nose and light cough around like day 4. No other symptoms. More than likely was Covid given the new developments, but I work from home and live basically alone so I thought going out to get tested was doing more harm then just hunkering down.
Fingers crossed we get through this spike and that shows don't start to disappear again.
Infectious disease experts are intrigued by preliminary research released last week from the University of Hong Kong that suggests omicron infects bronchial cells in the airway better than delta and other strains, but that it doesn’t infect lung cells as well. If validated by further study, this could help explain why people in South Africa who got omicron didn’t get as sick as people did with previous strains. Usually people get very sick when the virus invades the lungs and causes pneumonia, but not as sick when it stays in the nose and throat.
things may not necessarily lock down again but i do see tours for the next 3 months being postponed or cancelled by the artists
Impossible to postpone tours next year. Everything is extremely booked up throughout the summer and fall. It’ll have to be pushed to 2023 where they might as well cancel them entirely. I think they go full steam ahead.

My only two shows scheduled in the first few months of 2022 are Damon Albarn and Weather Station, but both are international acts, and those already had a hard time crossing borders/oceans in 2021. Even if the artists themselves don't cancel/postpone again, state or county mandates that limit room capacity could force them out, and moving to outdoor venues are a no-go early in the year. Having that sinking feeling again sucks, even if it wouldn't be an 16-month freeze like last time.
IMO with the transmissibility of omnicron we'll see shows getting cancelled, maybe even last minute, when band members or crew members test positive.
but hopefully that period won't last long. the "good" news is as druid stated it does appear that omnicron is less deadly then delta. and considering how it absolutely rips through a population because of the crazy high transmissibility, we'll see peaks happen quicker and then drop quickly (i think this is what happened in South Africa, which is already seeing decreases), leaving behind a bunch of additional immunity.
i have plans to be in NYC for NYE, so I'm watching the situation there closely.
Ugh, head of covid safety today told me she is hearing quiet rumblings of lockdowns happening again here.
that's surprising to me. feel like there is an anti-lockdown push sentiment, even amongst democrats.
i can see like a "lockdown-lite" thing happening, i.e. large indoor gatherings banned by the government, but not 2020-style close all restaurants and bars.

Idk is Cantrell anti-lockdown? IDK. I feel like she shutdown shit with Delta. She just implemented 5+ indoor dinning with proof of vaccination. I will say this, I am such a homebody now it doesn't effect me unfortunately. All my skating shenanigan's are at outdoor spaces that don't get locked down, but thejeremy works at Gasa Gasa at night and they are booked solid (besides a few canceling due to covid) and he will be upset if they shutdown again.
I’ll be pretty shocked if there are “lockdowns” anywhere in the US at this point. Maybe some schools go back to remote/hybrid and some restaurants might switch back to takeout for a time but I don’t think anything will be mandated anywhere.

yeah the messaging from the White House and from some big city mayors echoes this. with widespread vaccine availability nobody wants to shut things down again.

As someone in AV too... it's not looking good for NYE in NyC..

got it, thanks.
everything i have is refundable up until the 28th, so i'm just holding and waiting. but even if the shows don't get cancelled i'm still worried about getting on a plane, getting up there, then hearing day of that the shows are cancelled because <band/crew member> just tested positive for covid. then i just spent a bunch of money to go to NYC alone.
so there is still a chance i might pull the plug myself even if the band/city doesn't.

Widespread vaccine availability unless you're under 5
i’m obviously referring to antivaxxers, not the immunocompromised and people who cant. We should absolutely have digital events, distancing, the option for online learning, and additional supports for those who are immunocompromised or too young to be vaxxed. And of course I will continue to take all measures necessary to protect those groups. My sympathy has just waned for those who choose not to get vaccinated out of selfishness and hubris. dont put words in my mouth
