Some of us don’t have a choice. I have an in person day job and no one wears masks anymore. If I make it to Christmas without Covid I’ll be calling that my present. And of course I’ll “ruin Christmas” if I get it and can’t see my mom. Great timeline!

Yeah, I think there's a difference between, "I have to go unmasked at work or it could negatively affect my ability to make a living," and, "I'm not going to wear a mask at an indoor concert because I want to feel free and I don't care if I get sick since it very likely won't kill me." And, to be clear, I'm not sitting here in judgment of either of those approaches. We're in a weird place with all this stuff - unless the overwhelming majority of society decided to pitch in and start avidly taking precautions, we're well past the point at which any community-level action that'd move the needle is possible.
Ultimately, I guess what I'm saying is that when people say " (the) COVID is over," I don't think any but the most extreme fringe are saying it to mean that the virus is gone or doesn't exist. It's more about COVID continuing to be around but not being a big enough deal that we all need to do anything about it, which is, I guess I'm trying to point, far from a MAGA-exclusive POV.
I'm over COVID but it's clear COVID is not over yet. Everyone still stay safe out there and keep testing if you feel symptoms.
Yes, it is over.
No, it is not. I know people who tested positive recently and there are plenty of evidence online to point to how many people are still testing positive. I would ask you to not spread misinformation on this board. Thanks!

they've been trolling like this for a hot second
Trolling requires having the intellectual capacity to understand you're talking shit
Welp, my time has run out, it finally got me. It's not been that bad so far, scratchy throat Monday night, felt like a light flu yesterday and this morning and like a mild cold this afternoon. Had tested negative on a rapid test yesterday, this morning I went for a PCR test and it was positive. If I was going to get it, this week was the perfect week as I don't have to be anywhere. As I wasn't really near any people this weekend and have been masking on the subway, I am 95% sure I got it at the LCD Soundsystem show on Friday, they are still spreading it!

This feels like last year, where a lot of people caught covid at LCD just before the holidays. I had a ticket, but decided not to go and then a day later the last few shows were canceled. Hope that you recover soon!

So sorry it found you. Hope it’s a very mild case.

Hope you have a quick recovery! Out of curiosity, where in the city did you get a PCR test with a same-day turn-around?
I must be immune to the LCD strain. I went to 2 of the four boston shows and didnt get it. Granted I did mask most of the time but i remember hearing a ton of people tested positive after. they gotta do these residencies in the summer

The city's COVID Express test centers are still open, they do PCR with just a couple of hours turnaround (and they also test for Flu A and B, and RSV in the same test!) the Fort Greene center one by me has been my go to since I moved to DT Brooklyn. Appointments are very easy to come by these days (even doing it same day) and in a pinch can walk in and get it done. And you don't have to pay a thing!

I caught indoor live music last night, for the first time in around three years.
I figured that I needed to dip my toes back in the water, so I went to see a musician I know play at a small no-cover bar not far from me last night. I had intended to catch the entire first set, but after a long wait for a bus, I got there 10 min late, but stayed for the rest of the set (half-hour or so).
I was literally the only masked person there. #TeamN95
I'm really hoping that I don't come down with COVID again in the next few days, after testing positive a couple of days after Boston Calling (back when we were all told that you can't catch it outdoors.) After that experience, I couldn't even deal with seated outdoor shows for a long while (except for my 40th Elvis Costello show in August. No way I was missing that, and on my birthday, no less.)
It has been a year since my first booster (and after having 2-3 weeks of chest tightness and afib after my third Moderna shot, my doctor agrees with me that I should wait until Covaxin is available, unless a more virulent strain appears. Either way, though, at 64 and with an increasing number of health issues, I'm worried about risking another mRNA booster and worried about not getting one, as well. I'm hoping that three Moderna shots last year and a symptomatic case of Omicron in June will keep my immune system firing on all cylinders for now.)
It is scary getting back out there. I still mask up to shows indoors, especially if they are packed. I think with the mask on you will be fine. I get stressed out for a few days after I do something that makes me vulnerable to covid as well. Keep us up with any or lack of symptoms and fingers crossed you are good.
So far, so good. I've had two dental appointments in the last 10 days, too, during which I had to pull my mask down briefly for x-rays, the most recent of which was two days ago.

To bring it from NYC thread, I had an old coworker comment on a post I wrote about masking up: "But 7-8 months ago the big folks said masks don’t work..so I’m highly confused"
I indicated the info I posted was directly from NYC public health and she argued back that the New York Times, the city, and Fauci all said masks are ineffective earlier this year / this summer. Anyone remember that? I sure as hell don't.

I've been asked by a local senior center to educate their unvaccinated about Covid and flu vaccines. I was going to wear a mask because several of these people are 70+ and I wouldn't want to risk giving them something. I was told that if I'm comfortable not wearing a mask, I shouldn't, because if I do they won't listen to me. 🙃
