My goal had been to pick all first time headliners and an even split with acts featuring women. I was gonna go with OF/Madonna/Bad Bunny, but I kinda stunk up picks 5-15 and didn’t have the right support for those three. But overall I’m pretty happy with this for the amount of effort I put in. The second people started to pretend Odd Future wasn’t a real headliner I knew I was doomed anyway.
Here are some notes on a couple of the more random acts I picked:
Amp Fiddler Amp Fiddler is jazz/funk/house from Detroit. He’s been in Moodymann’s orbit for years and puts on an incredible live show
RX Bandits Rx Bandits were one of a million 90s ska bands, but we’re basically the only one worth a shit. They were much better musicians than the typical ska band and wrote some pretty progressive songs during the Bush years. Still a little corny, but very heady, rhythm focused sound and were really tight. Kinda ska Mars Volta. By the time the played Coachella they had actually kicked out all the horns and played as a four piece. I think if the had been a four piece their whole career they could have been much more critically and mainstream successful.
True Panther Sounds Bands True Panther was one of my favorite indie labels in the early 10s. Bands on the poster include Girls, slowthai, Delorean, Tanlines, Glasser, and Cloud Nothings. I was thinking about doing a full True Panther Gobi Stage day but I missed out on King Krule and Ty Segall.
The label head had a day job working for Matador and did True Panther on the side, and eventually Matador just bought his label. True Panther’s breakthrough act was Girls, but Delorean was also the cool kids version of Cut Copy in 2010 or so. Delorean put out a great record Subiza and played *everywhere* for the next two years. Their follow up wasn’t quite as good and then they got kidnapped or something weird on tour and kinda disappeared, but I probably saw them 5 times on that Subiza tour.
Girls
Cloud Nothings
Delorean
Slowthai
Glasser
Tanlines The synth guy in Tanlines was also in Professor Murder, who I really wanted to draft but chickened out and took Tanlines instead because people have actually heard of Tanlines

I miss Phox, they didn't make the cut on mine. Monica has such a great voice and it sucks they never got far.
Devandra Banhart, Porcupine Tree, Sparks and The Thing Tings on the very last line huh.
I have no fucking idea how popular these artists are. I literally finished billing them at 2:45. LOL.
I was surprised that anybody knew Sparks, TBH. I know them from the Valley Girl soundtrack and then forgot about them until their Coachella stream years ago.

Monica is in a band? I thought only Ross played like his weird piano.
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
