I think that's the issue here, is that for some reason you people were treating this mobile soundsystem upon which people can spin records as an act instead of a piece of hardware. It shouldn't be an available pick. Like if you want to rule it completely out of bounds then fine, but to treat a glorified set of turntables and speakers as a musical act is ridiculous.
yes it is the issue here, but what you're not getting is that this is a debate we have had multiple times, and have come to the conclusion multiple games that it is an act. there is a precedent set here whether you agree with it or not. again, just take it w one of your next 3 picks and it'll shut all of us up.
I don't even really want it that much. I'm just fascinated by the debate. And again, the fact that you've had this debate before and decided you needed to draft this particular set of turntables and speakers doesn't mean much. I mean, there have been at least ten acts drafted so far that someone is like "well it was fine in previous drafts" before it's collectively decided that that prior decision was wrong.
I'd say that if this is the way it's going to be applied, then the only way to get Despacio would be to draft both James Murphy and the Dewaeles, then spend a third draft pick on Despacio.

if you had just decided to throw that on at the end of the game i dont think you would have gotten much shit. it's just the fact that you advertised it on your lineup without drafting it, while most people here were under the assumption that it was still available to be drafted.
and i think that's a pretty fair standard to set moving forward.

2manydjs/despacio is really where Jortles golden rule falls apart.
It's the same guys djing
the rule is definitely weird, but I agree w what Truevine is saying, Despacio isn’t really an act. And after having seen 2manydjs and spent a bit of time in Despacio in the same weekend, they are very different experiences.
We don't have rules about installations in this draft, only acts.

Yeah but this is the same as you were to draft Sufjan Stevens and The National for them to play as Planetarium or as earlier mentioned Bon Iver and The National to play Big Red Machine when those are acts on their own thing with their own songs. If you were to draft Bon Iver and don't get The National than it would be impossible to even draft Big Red Machine in the whole game when it is a distinct band with their own discog.
Also name names cause I'm curious.

for the record: i also think it's silly to refer to DESPACIO as an "act". but i think it's in enough of a grey area (given the popular status of the DJ's involved) that it's only fair to say that it is something that has to be explicitly selected. that's all.

Planetarium has its own songs. Big Red Machine has its own songs. There are no pieces of music attributed to Despacio.
edit: the name that comes to mind most easily is Fiona Apple, but there were more. Savages was one, I know.

I think it's just an issue that has no clear answer, is the problem.
I think the best way to look at is that its an installation (which we don't draft) which can only be manned by James Murphy and the Dewaeles (who we do draft). I'd argue then that the only way to have Despacio would be to draft some iteration of both those acts and then Despacio as a third pick.

again, i agree in principle, but that's the thing, we have drafted instillations before. specifically in the coachella draft, which is what this game is modeled after.
I think there should be a poll to see if the majority thinks Despacio as an act or an installation.
I think the poll should be just if it needs to be drafted or not. People have literally been drafting art installations in past drafts.
There's nothing in these rules about art installations though. (Also, if we go down that road, does that mean only one team gets like the arch and shit?)
And poll it if you want, the only caveat is that I think the best equitable rule here would be that you need some iteration of Murphy + the Dewaeles to draft it. Like whoever has LCD can certainly draft a Dewaele project and lay claim to it, that's fair game.
I think you can draft Despacio because it has been listed at other fests. Is it realistic for Bonnaroo? Probably not. Whatever the case, you can't just add it to your lineup without drafting it.
