replace Pretty Lights w Aphex on the 2013 lineup and tell me that looks dramatically out of place
Pretty Lights has played Ultra, Camp Bisco, Suwannee, and Electric Forest. Aphex Twin isn’t coming anywhere near those festivals. Pretty Lights also makes much more poppy music and their fan base overlaps with the cheese EDM fan base. Aphex’s does not. Bonnaroo doesn’t book IDM, especially in the last 4 years where the electronic lineup is basically Electric Forest. Those are two completely different acts so yes, it looks drastically out of place.
Aphex Twin is great, probably my favorite producer ever, but Bonnaroo would never book Aphex Twin for multiple reason.

you're not wrong, but regardless, even if we all hold ourselves to a standard and draft a certain amount of cheese, it will not be at the strictly "realistic" level of roo the last 4 years. i agree going forward Roo will never book aphex, but thats where i really agree with what Todd said. The best way to look at this is "What if Livenation never bought Roo", and they were able to maintain the size / quality of those prime '11-'15 years. I think thats a hell of a lot more interesting than strictly holding ourselves to the lower standard of what bonnaroo has become.

My biggest question is if we're booking for the Other tent or the Other stage. Having one of the five stages essentially dedicated to just electronic would make a big difference in drafting strategy

Yep, for sure. Who would've thought Roo would get artists like Solange, Beach House or Gojira on their line up? I know it's just a bunch of artists but there's def a chance Roo books some really left field artists here and there. Not like half the line up but like five to ten-ish max. Everything goes with who gets paired with who and who gets put on what kind of stage on what kind of hour and if the soul of the festival is respected or not. I don't see any problem with an Aphex Twin pick as long as the rest of the line up reflects the vision and style of Roo. There's no way you can justify a top line that goes Radiohead - LCD - Aphex Twin - Solange or something, you see?

I'm doing the research so be prepared to stack your Other Stage

What are the parameters on this? I'd be down if it was limited to like, "acts that have played a US festival in the last 10 years" or something and not like, Kendrick Lamar subheadlining for Jesus Christ with a Janis Joplin latenight.

i mean Beach House kinda play everything but yeah i agree w all that. it wont work with every lineup but if you can pull it off i think that goes a long way.
