Eh, unpaid child support, someone waiting to serve papers on a civil suit, a hundred unpaid parking tickets, who knows? It's not just that the band hasn't played in the immediate Boston area -- I'm sure that a lot of acts have a city or two they never play because the artist just doesn't like the town, for one reason or another -- but they haven't played in Mansfield, Worcester, or Lowell, either. They haven't played anywhere in Massachusetts in 15 years.

Oh, they'll be Red before Rage, they just won't be the 4th name on the poster (if The Strokes are the third headliner.) An all-male top line means that the next two names on the poster will be female or female-fronted acts. I'm sure that at least two out of the six Blue & Red closers will be female or female-fronted, probably three or four of them.
Seems like based on the BC site, HAIM is already slotted in between Rage and RTJ, I'll be curious to see who fills out around them, especially if they have a similar booking mentality to 2020 with the more rock/indie heavy line up.
I'd bet money that this isn't happening. Hard AF rap duo on Green -> light pop rock on Red -> Harder AF rap/rock band closing Green? Nope, not going to happen.
Now, HAIM on Blue while RTJ is on Red? Very possible, but who knows if HAIM is even playing the same night that BC features the RATM/RTJ tour within its lineup.

The Strokes have only played 47 shows total in the USA since 2006, including appearances on late night shows, with the overwhelming majority of those shows being played at festivals or in NYC, but the reason they haven't played Boston is *warrants*
You're probably right, but if they're not in the BC lineup, then why are they playing every Aug & Sept RHCP date except for Boston? Why skip one show, especially given that they're doing the previous one, which is only two days earlier.
They probably are playing BC and that's why they're not doing the Fenway show, but if they aren't, what possible reason could there be for their absence from the Fenway lineup?
A big part of wisdom is being able to distinguish between what's very personal to you and what's universal, or at least applicable to a lot of people.
Read the comments to this Boston Calling Instagram post for an unimaginably bad take on who the third headliner will be. It was posted by someone who can't even comprehend the possibility that just because he wants to see a particular band at Boston Calling, booking them may not be the best business decision for anyone and everyone concerned.

I know there is plenty of time left for them to be announced, but I thought Brockhampton would’ve been included in the first slate of announcements for Roadrunner. They do have a gap between the 19th-21st in March. However, they do play Primavera and BC would be a perfect sendoff show.

I really wonder who they kept at this point. I feel like it will be almost entirely different from 2020 aside from the top 2 and rtj. Could see them having a much more diverse lineup genre wise than 2020 for sure

I think there’s a couple more names that will return (Phoebe, Jack Harlow) but it’s gotta be a lot harder for smaller fests to retain as many names as some of the big fests
Pom Pom Squad announced their first headlining tour dates today, and there's a gap between 5/21 in NYC and 6/10 in London, which puts Boston Calling in play. They do have two opening sets at The Sinclair on their calendar before then, this month and again in Feb (I can't bring myself to go to an indoor show yet, so I'm missing them next week), but BC has often booked acts below the top two lines who have done area club/ballroom shows a few months earlier.
If they don't play Boston Calling, it will likely be due to opting for both Forecastle and Bottlerock the same weekend instead. Since they're NYC-based, though, I'd think that Boston Calling is a safer bet than the other two. (How far down the poster do you get before the airfare cost of flying band, crew, and gear coast-to-coast for one festival becomes prohibitive? I'd think that a BC x Forecastle combo that weekend would be much easier for them to do. Do Friday at one and Sunday at the other, and a truck or van will suffice.)
Since most bands that do festivals in a given year tend to do a lot of festivals, I'm hoping that the just announced Shaky Knees lineup bodes well for the Boston Calling lineup. I'd take any of their three headliners over Foo or Rage, and there's a ton of good stuff below the top line.
Of course, they're more of a purely rock festival that books little-to-no rap, pop, and EDM, so the Boston Calling lineup isn't exactly going to mirror this one. It does suggest that there are some pretty quacking good indie rock acts doing festivals next spring and some of them will likely show up in the Boston Calling lineup.

I definitely think the Shaky lineup could have some indicators of who might be on the festival circuit in the Spring and have a decent shot at being at BC.
That being said, the lineup stinks compared to their 2021 festival 3 weeks ago. The main one that jumps out to me is "Japandroids playing Celebration Rock" which i'd do basically anything to go see. I'd rather them do it as a club show than at the festival, but i'll take whatever i can get. Beyond that, if BC can get some combo of Spoon, Chvrches, Gang Of Youths, and Death Cab then I'd be pretty happy.

Different strokes (no pun intended) for different folks. Jason Isbell, Noel Gallagher, Phoebe Bridgers, Orville Peck, Mew, Beebadoobee, and Dinosaur, Jr. were all pluses to me, especially the first two.
