Its amazing how 5-6 bummer bookings absolutely tank a line up in some peoples opinion. I had a hell of a good time in 2019, would have been even better had they been able to hold onto Janelle and Blackstar
Sunday was pretty unappealing for my tastes but im just saying its “bad” in comparison to every year before it. Friday and Saturday were a blast though. 2016-2018 blew it out of the water though
Yeah, if neither Travis/Logic/Sheck or Brandi/RKS/Guster hit at least some level of interest for you, probably a pretty toss away day, but it was a pretty great low key way to wrap up the weekend for me. Also if you were the kinda person that didn't get there till later you probably missed out on some stuff I really enjoyed like Cautious Clay and Easy Life and obviously hindsight is 20/20

early stuff was the best part of that day, skeggs, easy life, cautious clay, ravyn lenar were great. Chromeo Dj set was v fun too
Id be good with missing pretty much everything in the top lines, it would be cool to see The War on Drugs, King Gizz, Marc Rebillet at BC. Wouldn't be too mad if Nathaniel Rateliff came back either
I thought 2019's lineup was good (Sadly, I couldn't go on Friday because my laptop died that morning and I had to set up a new one that day.)
Really, what's so bad about Tame Impala, Brandi Carlile, Hozier, Anderson .Paak, Gang of Youths, Turnstile, Lord Huron, Adia Victoria, Big Red Machine, a handful of rising rap and EDM artists, and Fred "M'fn" Armisen?

Some people judge lineups based solely upon the top line. Twenty One Pilots have a reputation as a kids band (I wasn't a fan of the music they were releasing in 2019, but really liked a couple of songs from their new album) and, even before the recent tragedy, no one mistook Travis Scott for being nearly as talented as his daughter's uncle Kanye.
I'm not particularly excited by 2/3 of the likely 2022 top line, but what will likely stick with me long after Memorial Day weekend will be a few midday acts and a Blue stage closer or two. (I'm really hoping the the full three months between Boston Calling and Beach Road Weekend could mean that Jason Isbell and/or Dawes are in the lineup. Dawes -> Isbell closing Blue on Rage/RTJ day would be perfect counter-programming.)

I think you're gonna have to give up on Dawes ever playing this thing, sorry bud
I get that headliners are the big draw for the general public or whatever, but they're legitimately the least important part of a lineup for me. By the time they come on, i'm drunk and tired and way in the back because i want at least a little personal space. Sure I'd prefer them to be bands/artists that I like, but having a strong undercard and being so much closer for so many great bands throughout the day easily trumps having a good headliner. I actively dislike Travis Scott and Twenty One Pilots and saw maybe 15min of each set, but there were enough good bands during the day to make it well worth going in 2019. (Sidenote: I am SO mad I didn't listen to Turnstile before 2021. Didn't have a clue who they were and definitely skipped that set. Fast forward 2.5 years and Glow On was my #2 album of the year.)
I get why headliners get the attention, it’s a big part of some peoples justification for ticket price. If you can think “well I’d probably buy tickets to see them solo” about 2 of the headliners then everything else is borderline “free”.
I have a feeling when we get our line up the top line will be a big talking point, purely around if Rage is there or not. 3rd headliner is almost a moot point at this stage haha

If MGK wanted to be Blue Stage closer opposite The Strokes to pull all the annoying people, I wouldn't hate that.
more than anything im just against them booking a pedophile and giving him money. as someone whos had ppl close to them have their lives ruined by pedos

No crossover with our announced names and the roo lineup. Would love Weval, Gizz, Isaiah Rashad, Gecs, Slowthai, and Herbie Hancock. Also wouldn't mind Japanese Breakfast, Porter Robinson, Tash Sultana, or Tierra Whack. Will probably end up with $uicideboy$, Wallows, and Benee

we’re safe from benee and wallows, both already have boston dates. also would be very happy with the names you mentioned, esp, gecs, slowthai, tash, and jbrekkie

I'd think that they'd be just as likely to book Dawes on Blue as they were to book The Decemberists, Brandi Carlile, and Hozier. They always seem to do a little bit of the Newport Folk/Beach Road flavor every year, especially on Blue. It's not a primary focus of the festival, but you can reliably count on a half dozen artists at Boston Calling who wouldn't be out of place at Newport, Railbird, etc.
I would love a leak today. I think it was 2016 that leaked, and that was in the discussion for fave festival lineup ever.
2016 was the year that Boston Calling mailed out cardboard to people which mentioned the names of various acts booked to perform. Obviously, some names got out that way.
I preferred the maximum Riddler approach of the edition (Spring 2015) when they hid vinyl around town with artists' name painted onto the records, and tweeted out clues. I remember being so thrilled when I saw the clue about a band that had performed twice at Symphony Hall, and I instantly knew it was My Morning Jacket, since I had attended the two nights with the Boston Pops joining MMJ onstage.
(2017 was the year that the poster accidentally showed up on their site around midnight before the morning of the lineup drop. I tweeted at Weakened Friends, whom I've followed since seeing them at Harvard Square Mayfair or Oktoberfest years ago, and they said that they couldn't confirm or deny their appearance.)
Someone in the Coachella thread saying "Regional promoters for RATM are still actively pitching new promotions to radio stations for May shows as of this morning. Sure that Coachella decision is separate but encouraging sign for the overall tour."
No clue how they know or if they are reputable, but ill take any "pro-Rage still being on the line up" feelings I can get
Like something like this - , its a CT station but Id think there's a chance they've seen the line up and might not run the promo yesterday tagging Rage if they are out?
Pond posted a picture today from when they were at BC in 2018z Don’t think it really means anything but they’re free that weekend and I’d love to see them on the lineup. BC pulling through with RATM, Gizz, and Pond plus the other acts already confirmed is pretty solid for me

the date's open for them, they're at Hangout the weekend before and in Spain on May 31

Had to double check the Hangout lineup because I didn’t remember seeing Pond on there, but I assume you were referring to Tame? Yeah it’s definitely possible but without any other US dates I’m not holding out much hope

the difference between Dawes and those other acts is that those other acts are popular
if they have Rage locked in still and the rest of the lineup is truly ready to roll they should drop this thing today to sell tickets off of the Bonnaroo failure.

The whole festival landscape has been pretty wild the past few weeks, still no clear idea whats going on with Coachella and barely a peep out of Gov Ball.
Assuming the plan to drop Thurs is still on, id imagine we get a "Lineup tomorrow at 10am" post today

have not heard otherwise but wouldnt be surprised if they delay again. id assume theyll do the classic announcement of an announcement today if it is still coming tomorrow

Dawes is at least as popular as Rainbow Kitten Surprise or Manchester Orchestra, both of whom played Boston Calling recently.
