The Monday tweet said "coming along this week" which might not mean it's done/ready. Like, something that's "coming along nicely" isn't actually finished yet, right? Am I reading too much into this? Yes, definitely. But idk I've spent the last hour trying to convince myself that it may not be dropping today.
They probably just dont want to leave Gov Ball with the only announcement next week if i were to bet. this may signify a more multigenre lineup than 2020 if it means theyre competing with them again
To me, the lack of announcement this week just screams that Rage is out and they haven't yet finalized the paperwork with their replacement.
Maybe the best thing that could happen would be Boston Calling going under and then having AEG/Goldenvoice (AEG owns Bowery Presents/Bowery Boston) or LiveNation come in and start a new festival in Boston, handling things more professionally.
Coachella managed to lock down two of the biggest names in popular music in a hot minute, and a third who's also an in-demand arena headliner. But the same person who's in charge of booking bands for Madison Square Garden can't find anyone to replace one headliner just as quickly?
That’s probably enough “trying to read into things” for me for a year. Sitting on my hands and waiting for something to actually come out seems like the play now.

Yeah same. I give up. This is the first time I've bought presale tickets for any festival so I hope its a good lineup, but I'm done guessing and reading into it. See ya whenever it drops.

This is somehow more painful than the Coachella release. With that one, at least it made sense why it was delayed. We don't have a single clue why here, unless they were ready to announce the lineup without a third headliner booked in which case lmao

Livenation come in and start a fest? That idea can fuck right off

That doesn't make sense. If they perceive themselves as competing with Gov Ball, they'd want to get the jump on Gov Ball by selling tickets to people who might attend one or the other by announcing before the Gov Ball lineup drops.
There's more of a business advantage in announcing before another fest and not afterwards or at the same time.

they could also just be sticking with a late jan drop as they did in 2020, not sure why but this feels like deja vu

That's better than being the only top 12 major metropolitan area in the U.S. without a major music festival.
Say what you will about them, but if you live in the Boston, MA area, or in most of the country, you've spent some of the best nights of your life at LiveNation shows.
I know its the frustration speaking of a delayed lineup announcement and I get it - but comparing other fests to Coachella is a losing battle.
Bc seems to have a relatively good thing going in terms of carving out a pretty good niche of being a relatively high profile fest that still books guitar rock and hip hop without as much pop or edm as some of the other fests.
If another promoter came in - the likelihood is that they would be booking less of what appeals to you from the current BC, not more.

exactly, the only thing that would be better than what we have now is if GV came in and started a Panorama type fest

depriving Bostonians of a major music fest makes sense as it only fuels their unearned sense of aggrievement. if you put one there, they'd just complain about it, like how they believe the NFL was rigged against the Patriots or whatever.

it truly is pain to live in one of the most sports centric metro areas while giving zero shits about sports. that being said you are absolutely right, the entitlement here is insane

I start off by saying I dont think BC is that on the verge of being closed down by MSG, but that's really just a gut feeling for me personally. And that LiveNation seems to be a necessary evil at this point in live music, similar to Ticketmaster, and the more I can cut them out of my spending the better but they have found a way to pretty much give you no other option.
Second, what major music fests happen in Dallas or Houston, or are we counting the 3hr away ACL? Philly or DC, or is that covered by the 1 1/2-2hr away, in a different state, Firefly? M3F in Phenoix is probably close, but they still dont seem to book arena level headliners. So thats 5 out of your 12?

i mean... the NFL (specifically Goodell) WAS out to get the Pats for a while, but that's neither here nor there.
but your main point is totally fair. i absolutely LOVE complaining about stuff. about anything, really. i think it's a very northeast/new england thing, from what i've been told by friends who haven't lived around here their entire lives. i don't think my mental infrastructure is capable of ever just being happy and content, and honestly i don't want it to be. (all that being said, obviously some people take it too far and are obnoxious about it. i try to not do that.)

Philly has the great displeasure of having Made in America which while once enjoyable has devolved into a high school date rape expo. We have Xponential Fest too, but that's on a way smaller scale and has a very specific audience.

I mean if BC had the same amount of time to sort out the Rage thing then theyre obviously having trouble finding a similar replacement. They wouldnt really go too far off the reservation in who was booked to Rage anyway.

The original post said “Dave’s birthday isn’t only thing to get excited about this week”. They subtly changed it. Nothing coming this week. They are scrambling for some reason?
None of it really makes sense, you would think if rage was out they would have known about that earlier, at least the would have triple checked when the Coachella rumors came out last week.
Unless the Monday tweet really wasn’t hint at a line up release but I don’t think their social media team is THAT thick headed.

Was just coming here to point this out. Being from Philly the fest I grew up on was Firefly, and this feels so much like the crap that Red Frog used to pull when they were running the fest. So incredibly frustrating, there are a plethora of better ways to communicate.

Rigged against the Patriots? Really? That must explain all of those Super Bowl appearances and rings. #BillsMafia
