I hadn't been impressed by the two or three Gizzard live clips I watched on YouTube, but I'm listening to their latest album right now on Spotify and there's some great stuff on it. Apparently, they're closing every set on this tour with 18 min. album opener The Dripping Tap (including their shorter Shaky Knees set) and that's worth missing the first Strokes song for.
Maybe I just checked out the wrong songs. I'm digging this.
Paris Jackson with 30 minutes at 2:00 pm is objectively hilarious
nepotism only gets you so far if you make shitty music
It's not really a secret that the Super Bowl halftime show performers pay to play. That's why you so often see the performers announce a major tour the next day. It's the world's most expensive promotional music video.
Now, I'm not saying that Paris Jackson paid to perform at Boston Calling or any other music festival this year. But, for someone with her immense financial resources, that wouldn't be a bad way to launch a musical career.
Festivals are one of the best ways an unknown or little known artist can get the attention of potential new fans. People who are going to a festival see you on the poster and check our your music on YouTube, Spotify, or whatever. Plus, you're always going to attract some sort of a crowd at a large festival, even if it's only people positioning themselves for whomever's up next on that stage.
Festivals are built upon maximizing revenue streams beyond ticket sales, including stage naming rights, charging the food and beverage vendors for the right to sell at the festival (this comes from a New England food maker of one sort or another with whom I used to chat on social media), and all of the corporate booths and vendors there. If a particularly wealthy musician wanted to buy their way onto festival stages, I'm sure they'd find takers.

i saw them close with dripping tap at Coachella and it was easily the highlight of their set and maybe even the night

With certain bands, I can have a difficult time getting into them because I don't find the singer's voice particularly appealing to me when I first hear them. I now love The National, but walked out 20-30 min. into their Fall 2014 Boston Calling set because I couldn't deal with Matt's baritone vocals back then. But by the time I saw them on the Red stage in 2018, I grew to like his voice a lot and didn't miss a minute of their set.
King Gizzard might wind up following a similar path for me. When the lead singer goes into his (decidedly non-soulful) falsetto mode, I'm not crazy about the sound of his voice, but the psychedelia-meets-prog-meets-metal-meets-whatever-pops-into-the-musicians'-heads of it all is very appealing.

I work in Harvard square and a printed poster on our door and for some reason RTJ and Glass animals is switched on this poster? Not sure what’s going on there

That is weird. However both Run the Jewels and Glass Animals have the original dates on their tour schedules on their own websites. Also Glass Animals is playing in California on the 27th, so the 29th makes more sense for them to be on the East Coast. Similarly, Run the Jewels goes to England on 6/2 so though it may not matter much, they would have an extra day to travel if they are indeed playing Boston on the 28th instead of the 29th.

I’m wondering if the artists were asked to swap for crowd control reasons, and to sell more sat tickets
Zero chance they are making a switcharoo like that and still releasing the schedule with out that announced. I wouldnt be surprised if the idea of swapping them was discussed, maybe even as far as making a draft poster, but I find it hard to believe it holds any water at this point
Reallyyyyy hope they don’t actually make that change, since I can’t go Saturday. I like RTJ and the live show is fun but it’s also kinda the same every time. Was really looking forward to Glanimals
The Charles River Speedway (an outdoor/indoor collection of shops, eateries/drinkeries, and courtyard) is doing a(n unauthorized, I presume) Boston Calling Weekend event with additional food vendors and live music.
I suppose that it's an option for people who can't afford to go to Boston Calling or don't feel that the lineup is worth their hard-earned dollars, but it does seem a little shady for them to use the Boston Calling name when they're not a business partner of the festival.
I'm not quite sure if they're trying to attract people who are going to Boston Calling and will want to leave the festival grounds in order to go to their much smaller event. I don't see the appeal in that.

Nope, I want to see both Gizzard and Glass Animals, plus this might wind up bumping Goose down one time slot on Blue, which would shorten their set. An hour and 15 min is short for them as it is.
But...if a schedule change on Saturday enables me to see both Black Pumas and Orville Peck, that would be a win for me.
This was probably just a printer's error, but we'll find out soon enough. Given the lead time required to print hard-copy posters, I find it hard to believe that the poster information is more up-to-date and reliable than their marketing e-mails, social media posts, and website info.
