Future Islands is a lock! Canadian tour ending May 26 in Montreal. They’ve also played BC before in the fall ‘14 edition. Edit: nvm it actually ends in Quebec City on the 29 with Ottawa on the 27. seems unlikely considering the routing and BC would make it 6 in a row

Royal Blood is out. Maybe it’s a common thing, but I’ve been seeing a lot of bands’ tour routing wrap up in the Northeast like right before BC. It’s like they just miss it lol.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
I don't know who Sasami is but I would bet that he/she/they end up on the lineup based on the Haim tour dates/openers consequence.net/2021/12/haim-2022-tour/

This has become such a tradition with Boston Calling -- when you book an act that's in the middle of a headlining tour around the festival dates, book their openers, too.

Shoot, I buried the lede. HAIM is playing Philadelphia on Sat 5/28, so they're obviously playing Boston Calling on Friday or Sunday.
Unlike RTJ, however, there's no clear way to know which headliner they're appearing with, so it really doesn't tell us anything about which headliner is appearing on which day. They could easily be the Blue closer on Rage/RTJ day and go head to head with RTJ closing Red, so the only thing this really tells us is which day they're not appearing.

Hangout Fest leans more electronic/younger than BC generally, but there's still generally a little lineup overlap so maybe there's a couple of clues here:

I’d take:
Briston Maroney Dayglow Leon Bridges Phoebe Bridgers Still Woozy

Sasami was in Cherry Glazerr for a while, she's LA based best friends with Vagabon. Her album that she put out in 2019 was one of my faves, kind of standard indie rock on record but she and her band RAWK live, pretty heavy. The new stuff she's putting out for her album coming out next year is continuing with that trend. She's a pretty interesting artist IMO.
he/they '12 - Firefly '13 - Firefly, Made In America '14 - Firefly, Made In America '15 - Mountain Jam (Sunday), Firefly, Pitchfork, Made In America '16 - Boston Calling, Firefly, Osheaga, Made In America, Roots Picnic NYC '17 - Boston Calling, Gov Ball, Firefly (Sunday), Pitchfork, Day For Night '18 - Boston Calling, Mountain Jam, Osheaga '19 - Form, Firefly (Sunday) '22 - Boston Calling, Firefly '24 - Solid Sound, Soundside

I can appreciate the fact that for many years, it was a festival industry tradition to let Coachella announce their lineup first, except for a couple of smaller Arizona and Florida fests happening before Coachella.
I wish someone would give Boston Calling the memo that this tradition has been eliminated, whether for now or for good, and that 2022 festival lineups are dropping, including festivals taking place long after Boston Calling.
A lineup drop now would motivate a lot of people to ask their significant other or parents for Boston Calling passes as a holiday gift, as well as set up Boston Calling nicely to benefit from cash gifts people receive for the holidays.
Plus, for a lot of people, the holidays are a slow time of year. There's not a lot happening now for many people, and simply giving people a festival lineup to celebrate or complain about right now would be a wonderful gift.

Randomly came across a small scoop: Mdou Moctar is opening on Parquet Court’s US tour, but not for their Boston date, and his last date on his tour is in early May, I have a good feeling he’ll be on the undercard

I'd be really happy to see him in the lineup, but this isn't similar to the situation with The Strokes at all. Moctar is opening all of the dates on the first leg of the Parquet Courts tour, which ends on March 18. He's not the opener on the second leg of the tour, which starts in Boston on March 31. It's not like he's opening shows right before and right after Boston, mysteriously omitting that one date.
There's nothing on Moctar's tour calendar to suggest that he'll be doing North American dates in late May, but nothing to suggest that he definitely won't be doing them, either. There are European festivals slated for early May and early August, with nothing in between them. There is a late August west coast festival, which may suggest that he's focusing upon European festivals early in the season and then doing North American festivals later on, which doesn't bode well for a Boston Calling booking.

you typed all that out to say nothing
Eh idk, I think the point that he’s only opening for a leg of the tour that ends in mid-March is relevant. It’s not like he’s just randomly skipping Boston in the middle of a tour, so I don’t think the dates make him any more likely to be at BC
On the DMB message boards we were speculating that maybe DMB has a shot to be the third headliner. My recollection is that they've never played this festival (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). Not sure it means anything but Boston Calling follows DMB on instagram.

They were following a bunch of potential 2022 undercard artists and then followed a bunch of super popular artists to throw people off. The almost universal consensus here is that the third headliner is the Strokes because the Boston date of the RHCP is the only one without the Strokes opening

There's a non zero chance of that, but I have a hard time believing they'd do BC over a show at Mansfield
Earl and Action bronson announced a tour this jan/feb with no boston date. think that makes them both somewhat likely. especially earl since he’ll be at primavera the week after
We could have a great rap lineup this year with RTJ already announced, and Brockhampton and Earl looking likely
Plus Earthgang. Honestly, i know this is unlikely, but Rocky could be our 3rd headliner. seems odd for them to be building up a hip hop lineup like that without a hip hop headliner. Or he could be subbing/coheadline w/ The Strokes. Just have an odd feeling about it.

if Tyler was possible he’d be the perfect 3rd headliner, too bad the Worcester date rules him out

Kendrick?
Now this also makes sense, especially if he’s at Coachella too

We have shared 2 headliners with Coachella before but it I’d be surprised if it happens again, also we don’t know if Kendrick is even playing anything early 2022
