Given the lack of inspections, that couldn't have been a simple metal detector. With those, you're asked to remove keys and such from your pockets.
My best guess is that it's some sort of x-ray/metal detector powered by AI software, which can tell the difference between a potentially dangerous item and something harmless, and then alert staff/security if there's an issue, without someone needing to stare at a video monitor or inspect the contents of your pockets.
Yep they definitely had a sign that mentioned AI. It's refreshing to see a festival actually care about security instead of someone bringing in a weed vape or camelbacks full of water. It's a small part of the "user experience" but I've had suncreen and blankets taken from me before from Bonnaroo so it was nice surprise.
first 2 days they still checked my camelbak for liquid, didn’t look at anything else though

Sunday was tough. It was Metallica vs. Everything else. Glass Animals were fine, but there were so many people there just waiting for Metallica that it killed the vibe.
In a better situation, Glass Animals should have played a different day or on Blue. And some other act more compatible with Metallica should have played in the Glanimals spot.

i hadnt listened to them prior, and still havent, but i agree with DZ that they were definitely nervous and a little rough around the edges. it was early and i was only half paying attention. the music seemed like something i would like, though. i'll check them out

I woke up with a headache yesterday, coughed a bit all day, and felt feverish all evening. After taking my temp and discovering it was over 100, I took a home test and discovered that I have COVID.
Hopefully, my three Moderna shots in 2021 and residual immunity from having a very early case in 2020 will keep this manageable for me.

So sorry to hear that! I just had the newest strain in March, and I'm honestly grateful. By the end of the weekend there was so much coughing and hacking and my friend who I went with(who also just had covid in early april) were like uhhhhh. If people test I would be so surprised if it isn't classified as a super spreader event.

The funny thing is that if there's anything that epidemiologists have agreed upon is that it's almost impossible to catch it outdoors. Could 15 or so visits to a porta-potty, while wearing a protective N95 mask, have been enough to catch it? I'm always masked with a fitted N95 in indoor public spaces and on public transportation, so this hit me as a surprise.

I got COVID too. I was in some packed T stops and trains all weekend.

Safe? Yes. Smart? Definitely.
I had planned on holding off until early July for my second booster, after getting my first booster last Nov, to align with a lot of live shows in late July - late Sept, but now I'm questioning that wisdom after testing positive last night.
Three shots work incredibly well against serious illness and hospitalization. That second booster is an added turbocharge to your immune system, although T cell and Memory B cell protection doesn't wane like antibodies. They help you create new antibodies when you're exposed to the virus again. Still, getting that extra shot of antibodies before putting yourself in higher risk situations isn't a bad idea.
Granted, I'm not a physician or epidemiologist, but I follow a few on Twitter and the general consensus is that while a second booster is only particularly important for the immunocompromised and others at high risk, but it can't hurt and can help.
One thing which I've seen a few physicians recommend is switching vaccines for your booster. Apparently, both Pfizer and Moderna are each built upon different portions of the spike protein from the other, so getting the vaccine you haven't already received for one of your boosters is highly recommended.

TW and anyone else, sorry to hear you caught it. We had it a month ago, with symptoms just like tw12’s. Five days of mild fever/bad cold symptoms, then it just lifted, leaving only a trace of a cold. We’ve had both shots and booster 1. We too were very careful, but this variant seems hell-bent on catching everyone. Get well soon!

I had been hoping for local show announcements by King Gizzard, The Strokes, Orville Peck, Goose, and Black Pumas, but nothing yet. King Gizzard is actually doing a number of small amphitheater and ballroom shows in the northeast in mid-October. Even if their set hadn't been cancelled, I would have expected a show announcement.

As for me, I've pivoted and decided to hold off on a fourth shot. The CDC mentions waiting up to three months after an infection, and I just got over Omicron. I had been planning on getting my 2nd booster on July 1, but that might be like pouring water into an already filled glass. Plus, with an Omicron specific booster on the way, it makes sense to wait.
Most importantly for me, I'm out of denial about what I went through after my first booster. There was an irregular heartbeat and a couple of instances of chest pain in the days after my 1st booster. I'm definitely in the minority and anyone who had an easy time with all previous shots should move forward, but I want to see what happens with Massachusetts numbers and whether new, more serious non-Omicron variants emerge or not.
