There's basically a 90% chance that the third headliner is The Strokes. I don't really see a point in wasting time with "what if it's not them" scenarios when there are so many more realistic names to speculate about...
I'm much more interested in trying to figure out the next 2 lines on the poster. We know Haim and RTJ, both of whom I think have to be in the 4-6 billing range. Phoebe and Brockhampton have been brought up a few times and would both make sense (and i think Phoebe would probably have to be the third member of the 4-6 range at this point.) I'm also pretty confident we'll get Leon Bridges. From there, mostly based on Shaky Knees and Hangout lineups, I'm thinking maybe some combo of Fall Out Boy, Jack Harlow, King Gizz, Spoon, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Chvrches, Death Cab.
If they wanted to start bringing EDM back into the fold and maybe have an electronic blue stage closer, both Zedd and Illenium are relatively high up on the Hangout lineup and could be cool. Based on how much the festival has moved away from that in recent years, I'm not really expecting this to happen.

I'm personally against this but it would probably help them re: ticket sales if the fest is actually in danger.

Illenium does nothing for me but he sells a ton of tickets

if they bring back electronic id bank on flume or disclosure, the former hasnt played since 2013 but hes grown a ton. and disclosure drew a huge crowd when they headlined 2016

My personal order of preference would be Disclosure >>> Flume > Zedd >>> Illenium. In this hypothetical world where 1 of those 4 closed the Blue Stage opposite either Phoebe, Haim, or RTJ on the Red Stage, the only one I'd actually go see would be Disclosure.
Also, if they have someone EDM on Blue opposite Phoebe on Red, the crossover noise pollution at the Phoebe set would be reallyyy annoying. I love Phoebe but I really think she's a bad festival booking. She's too quiet and there's always so much talking in the crowd (and the potential noise from other stages is more distracting than usual.)
Gimme a Jungle as a Blue stage closer against The Strokes
There's rarely any overlap between Blue closer and Green headliner. I wish that there was, for people who aren't interested in the headliner.
2019 had Arena acts oppose headliners, which I thought was a good idea. (Chromeo DJ Set over Travis Scott really saved my Sunday.) Not sure how it would've been in 2020, or how it will in 2022, given the 2020 move toward local DJs instead of nationally recognized names, but if i had to guess then i bet they'll have someone DJing opposite headliners again this year.
Fingers crossed, seems like they wouldn't keep saying "Line up coming soon" unless its in the next two weeks or so. I'm betting an Lineup coming announcement next Tuesday (11th) with the lineup coming out on the 12th.

ditto w/ Yaeji during TOP. would be cool if they transformed the arena entirely into a dance music tent type space

Rage just posted a picture of them from Lolla 93 on Twitter, seems like that would be an odd choice if they are about to completely scrap a tour... but who knows
So, if theoretically, RATM postpones, who do you think would have the best shot at taking their place?
I imagine they would abandon the "all three are going to be 90s/00s rock acts" theme and take the chance to diversify the top line a little. But if not, I'd love to have a decent excuse to see Metallica.
