Have there actually been back to back days, though? I know there were a lot of Friday one coast and Sunday the other situations, but how many acts actually did both coasts without a break day between festivals?
I did go back and check myself on this, in 2018 Tyler did Sasquatch in WA on Fri and BC on Sat and The Killers did BC on Friday and Bottlerock in CA on Sat so it looks like some acts are able to make it work. Id guess if the production is simple enough, you have the proper infrastructure/crew to move it all and the paycheck is right they can get it done.
That's actually quite impressive, considering that artists would almost never do this on their own tours. I guess that not having to transport a PA, lighting rig, and video screens, all of which the festival provides, is the game-changer which makes it possible.
Not my cup of tea, but if Weezer is doing the circuit I could totally see them being at BC. And honestly wouldn't hate it if Pumpkins was the replacement for Rage (obviously massive downgrade) purely because I've never seen them and they play shit venues in Philly when they come through on tour.
Weezer was solid in 2017, minimal interest in seeing them come back already though

you could for sure trick me into having a good time on sunday at this thing

This is probably why the money has to make sense, id think it has to be a reasonable enough production to move and a big enough paycheck for the math to make sense. And give that, if Phoebe is in the top 6 or 9 acts, it could make sense!

For a festival which will have gone three years between editions and is the only festival in its immediate market, I'm really hoping that Boston Calling dials down the repeat performers this year.
Apart from RTJ who have already been booked, I'd rather not see anyone on the poster who performed at any of the three previous Harvard Athletic Grounds editions. That probably won't be the case, but it would be nice.

While I dont disagree with you, at this current point, I wouldnt hate seeing one or two across Tyler, Bon Iver or The National on the poster

Sure, I'd be happy with any of them. I'm just tired of seeing the same names on the poster so frequently.
Maybe that makes sense in Chicago or L.A., where the number of festivals means that there are going to be over 200 names across multiple posters, but Boston Calling is all we've got here.

Someone on Facebook mentioned that Rage’s drummer is getting surgery and that’s why they dropped out of Coachella.
woah. this would be massive if they end up being BC exclusive
If this is legit the case id imagine they'd still be on the Firefly lineup, also looks like the surgery happened early Dec with a 6 week - 3 Month recovery. It would be curious to call off Coachella but leave late Mar tour dates still up in the air

selfishly bc i've planned the trip for over 2 years now i really want the southwest shows as the first ones back but i also wouldn't be particularly upset if that ended up being the case. think that if brad's surgery was gonna screw things up they would've said so a while ago though.

I’d have to think they planned on starting rehearsals right about now. Maybe there was a setback or the doctor didn’t clear him yet? I’m wondering if they’ll reschedule the first month or two of dates, and proceed with the rest.

Well, this better be resolved in the next 48 hours, so that the full lineup can drop...unless they want to launch the next phase of ticket sales on Friday and than do an "Oops, we have to replace one of the headliners" thing, after they've sold even more tickets by having Rage on the poster.
i have faith, despite 2019 being a bit of a dud, saturday that year was one of my absolute fav single days of any fest ive been to. As long as they get some cool rare acts im hopeful. Maybe a Sufjan return since hes pretty buddy buddy w the Dessners
You know who I was just thinking I'd love to see on the line up and could maybe happen, Ripe. Super fun live show, guys live in Allston and they have a history of doing a Boston House of Blues show in Feb which seems like they are skipping based on their current winter tour. They have a show in Hampton Beach on the 28th too, so seems like a Fri/Sun set would be pretty feasible
yeah, definitely. that's what i was saying before. i hadnt seen the text-only leak from the forum, that Nterlude reposted a few posts up, but that one is apparently real.

I thought 2019's lineup was good (Sadly, I couldn't go on Friday because my laptop died that morning and I had to set up a new one that day.)
Really, what's so bad about Tame Impala, Brandi Carlile, Hozier, Anderson .Paak, Gang of Youths, Turnstile, Lord Huron, Adia Victoria, Big Red Machine, a handful of rising rap and EDM artists, and Fred "M'fn" Armisen?

Its amazing how 5-6 bummer bookings absolutely tank a line up in some peoples opinion. I had a hell of a good time in 2019, would have been even better had they been able to hold onto Janelle and Blackstar
FWIW, The Strokes announced their rescheduled date in April for the postponed NYE show in Brooklyn. Their opening acts are Mac DeMarco and Hinds. Hinds was one of the bands Boston Calling started following on Instagram before they then followed 50-ish more acts to throw us off the trail. (My bad, I tweeted them and let them know that I had found their new IG follows, shortly after which they added a ton more artist follows.)
So, if The Strokes are doing a U.S. headlining tour in late Spring/early Summer with Mac DeMarco and Hinds opening, I wonder if this indicates that Mac DeMarco will be back at Boston Calling this year. They do tend to book all of the acts on a tour, much as they did with The 1975, Phoebe, and Beabadoobee in 2020.

Sunday was pretty unappealing for my tastes but im just saying its “bad” in comparison to every year before it. Friday and Saturday were a blast though. 2016-2018 blew it out of the water though
