Rush has been selected and its eligibility is in question.
The Rule:
Any artist that is deceased as of the first pick of the draft is eligible. In addition, any act that has been inactive* since before 01/01/10 is eligible.
*An act is considered inactive if they have played no live shows and/or released no new music after 12/31/09. In addition they cannot have newly recorded music pending release and nor upcoming shows scheduled.
At Dispute:
Rush last released new music on 06/12/12 and their last live performance was 08/01/15, which would render them ineligible. The counter-argument is that they have not performed or recorded new music since the death of a band member.
This is goofy. The beasties went through without a poll. MCA died after 2010. The beasties had new music they were working on too. . What’s the difference between him and Neil? Neil was the main songwriter and lyricist for Rush and they were already retired. If they went through then Rush should be an easy yes
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I didn't have Beasties as eligible on my list but because there is some question about how much work - if any - went on after the cutoff, people felt comfortable with their being inactive. If anybody challenged it we would've polled it.
In this case, the band was still playing shows until about five years ago.

Then he is eligible as a solo performer if he has two qualifying shows in his timeline.
Why is this so hard to understand? The rule isn't if they are active. It's if they were active after the cutoff for a band to be active. Clearly Rush were.

the reason no one blinked an eye at Beastie Boys was because MCA was an essential member so it's seen that the group is dead as well. I think in a future game, this is the best rule. We can all agree that Gregg Allman, Neil Peart and MCA are essential members and any disputes would be handled via poll. The group dies with them.
I would even go so far as to say that if a band continues after a death, they are eligible too. The current iteration of Dead Kennedy's is sad and it sucks that the OG's aren't eligible. This would also allow me to take Steely Dan w Becker lol.

the polls should I think support this so it’s basically the rule anyway. I doubt anyone is gonna say the cars are ineligible with both of their frontmen being dead. Same with the other polls.

To reiterate for the eightieth time. NOBODY is arguing that they are still active. The point is that the rules that the draft is being run under say that a dead artist is instantly eligible but an act is only eligible if they have no activity after 2009. The Cars, Allman Bros, Rush are all (at minimum) inactive but not eligible for the draft.
As to the second part, then we get to spend time arguing what the true iteration of the band is.
The rules as presented were pretty straight forward to have structure so that polls could be avoided. All three of those acts are ineligible by just reading the rules.
