As of right now, UH is 5th in kenpom and Loyola is 7th, so while the other two are surprises, the top two teams left are about as good as you expect them to be at this point. This was a pretty stacked region at the top with three top-seven teams (and a big drop-off to #22 WVU and #33 OK St after that, though tbf this is all partially affected by today's showings). Loyola is a very good team that was way underseeded. Selection committee kinda gave Illinois the shaft putting Loyola at an 8-seed on their region.

Yeah, just to bring back my "maybe kenpom and others are overrating the Big Ten" hypothesis:
Four teams have lost in the kenpom Top 13 as of right now. Those are four of the five of the Big Ten teams (5 Illinois, 6 Iowa, 11 Ohio St, 13 Wisconsin). I view that mostly as a coincidence - Illinois had a tough matchup, and Wisconsin were underseeded and had to play a monster Baylor team - but it is funny.
22 Purdue lost in the first round too. 3 Michigan is still in, and 34 Maryland.
Wait, who's boring? Illinois? Because Loyola are fun.
to each their own. I'm more of a fan of watching high-level athletes that will dunk on teams and stuff like that. Loyola doesn't have that. They play great fundamentally sound defense tho
That’s why I’m frustrated. I think Clemson (when they’re hitting shots) could have beat them. And they can definitely beat Syracuse because they split with them this year. Ugh.
