What specific behavior do you all look for when deciding if someone is town or maf?
There are some basic tactics to use that MD and Jostles have already mentioned like voting record (who moved on/off folks AND when, that part can be very important), consistency of word (sure we all shift our thinking, that's part of the game, but sometimes Town can find Maf Members in a tale they've spun that feels off/isn't supported by the game's record of votes, moves, etc.), and then there can be more nuanced things like "Does person A seem to be working in cohesion with OR too inorganically "against" someone," which is the less obvious way of distancing--with voting against someone being the more concrete distancing tactic commonly used. Like, last game it was mentioned by a couple folks that MD had some Lone Wolf Vibes going on, which made them lean town read on him--which ended up being correct--and I've garnered correct town reads on people with this same observation tool.
And then there are ViBeS/gut reads. Those take harder to be able to use at all reliably, since when you're new to the game it isn't like you know things like "Mafia Jostles doesn't usually act like that/would've spoken to that situation differently" or whatever since it is rather person by person

Night two is over. Truevine has been whacked. Day Three begins.
I can't get a count up for a little bit, but I will tentatively plan on ending this round at 12pm EST on Sunday. If that's too much time, we can talk about it.

Agreed. We know inspector is dead, and I feel like Maf had one of two choices here: whack a vet player who ppl aren't super sus of right now or whack a noob whose interactions/record send us down a rabbit hole of little or no use, and they went the latter route

Have you done a reread and this is where you land or is this what you knew you already wanted to do as soon as we entered this day?
Am asking not as a challenge/condemnation, just curious because I'm planning to do my reread tonight and he's top of Noob Sus List for me but I also want to enter the reread with an open mind and I could see mardude being our guy instead. Or even KPO, but I'm less sold on him as a third

I hope I do a decent job of explaining everything here because I've been a topic of discussion.
Most of the discussion around me has been from Dan. I've done my best to answer all of his and anybody's questions and explained both my voting record and my need to ask a billion questions. I'm hoping those that I've played games closely with (Slack, Tristan, Jortles) can attest that I just can't read the rules. It bores me to death and I don't retain anything without actually doing it. Also, Jortles, who I know well compared to most people I know from the board is suspect of him (or at least was a few pages ago) and I feel like Jortles is town.

Gonna just walk through my voting process so far to provide any necessary context:
Idk who I voted for at first, maybe Mardude? I don't feel like checking but I voted for him because nobody had yet and I didn't want to be the one who voted someone out in the first round.
LD - I've discussed this before but so you don't have to scroll back, I had four options, LD, Jortles, Silver, Theo. I play fortnite with Jortles (JORTNITE) fairly regularly and feel I can tell when he is being disingenuous. Silver and Theo are both close to my age and have a lot of personality in their posts. With no context on who acts how or how the game even works, I picked the person that I would have the hardest time reading. When it came out that he was Inspector, I didn't change it because I didn't know if I should believe him because I don't know how the game works so I stuck by my decision.
Next round I voted Theo because pretty much everyone was in agreement that he was Mafia and had solid reasoning for why (Theo died with honor(?) falling on the sword and voting himself out). They also provided good context on what the inspector is and helped me understand the responses and non-responses to that information coming out.

Like you say I think that there’s a high likely hood of one between you and Pepe. What gave me the edge to you was that your posts seemed more coached as in I could say “if I was mafia with you I’d tell you to say that” type of way. However, this post feels really genuine so I’m on the fence and am holding my vote for now.
would love to hear more input on why people are voting for Pepe. I could go into the various conspiracies of picking apart anything Danbob says but i feel like that would just be a pot and kettle situation

Sure Maf can do things to appear as "helpful town," and I've already spoken to how i feel like Theo regularly DOES have a helpful air regardless of role, but also knowing that Theo is Mafia and that he chose to bring these stats up early in D1, it makes me think he might've been peacocking some distancing that Maf did out the gate. See bolded.

His most recent post has kinda backed me off of it a little bit . Brining up personal anecdotes like that really can’t be coached. I’m hoping when Pepe chimes in that things will be telling for me, mardude needs to actually contribute as well.

Coming out of D2, I felt like KPO and TV were def less likely than Pepe and/or Mardude. Right now I'm looking at the original D1R1 record once everyone had voted:
Jortles - 2 (LD, Rummy)
LD - 2 (Dan, Mardude)
Theo - 2 (Truevine, Jortles)
Mardude - 2 (KPO, Silver)
Silver - 1 (Pepe)
Dan - 1 (Theo)
KPO - 1 (Maddog)
More often than not, there will be one (sometimes more than, but I think most often is just one) Maf person on a teammate of theirs, bc #distancing. Knowing that Theo is Maf, I don't think a teammate was on him because Truevine is town, and I have a town read on Jostles (and am personally elated about it but trying to temper said elation because if it turns out he's not, I will be in true despair).
That leaves us with either Theo being the one to distance (onto Dan) or perhaps Pepe onto Silver (if Dan isn't Maf)....if Mardude or Dan is Maf, they weren't the one to distance since both were on LD.
I've got enough reason at this point to go ahead and vote, though I'm continuing my in depth reread and certainly am not locked.

This just kinda feels like you were suspicious of me and just looked for something to support it. There are plenty of games where no mafia distance with their first vote, yes it happens, but I don’t think it’s fair to definitely assume at least one maf distanced with their opening vote. Also, Theo posting stacking/voting information is indicative of distancing either, it’s just as if not more likely he was trying to blend in.
I actually feel like the first round would be the time for mafia members to just split their votes between themselves that way later in the game they can show they haven’t been distancing themselves. Going to proceed with this theory

Distancing is Mafia members trying to do things to make it look like they aren’t on the same team. The best example is a Mafia member voting to kill another mafia member. In the most basic approach to the game, that would make you think that they aren’t together. Over the years, its become extremely common now for mafia members to fuck each other over and argue with eachother in the thread to make it appear they arent on the same team

I have no qualms with owning the fact that I entered my reread most sus of you and Pepe--that doesn't mean I am not reading with open eyes/mind, but you and i have been Maf quite a few times together and I think you've got a bit of a tell.
