James Blake played mind melt but would have been way better on main frame. I think there are certain acts that can play both stages but would feel better indoors (Kraftwerk, James Blake, Charli XCX, Grimes, Thom Yorke)
I guess we've all decided that our version of iii points will have a bigger Main Frame lineup. That's fine. Just based on looking at past iii points schedules there have been a good number of acts that don't really make sense on Main Frame. I even thought my Fever Ray pick was questionable but saw the way things were going and wanted to make sure I got her.

i'd be more concerned about acts that don't fit genre/production wise, of which there are certainly a few
"Indoor secondary stage with industrial aesthetic. This stage features live acts in electronic and hip-hop genres, as well as leftfield / IDM / ambient acts. The closing slot of this stage is often a DJ set or high-energy electronic live act. Think of this stage as similar to Sonar or Day For Night."

Seems like a pretty multi-genre stage to me?
yeah it's multi-genre, but not all genres.
i'll just say a few that stick out to me as clearly belonging on the Sector 3 stage due to their genre / the type of production the crowd will likely be expecting on the main frame.
Explosions In The Sky Stereolab Royksopp King Krule Mount Kimbie
but again, we're all gonna be taking certain liberties this game, so it is what it is

I felt alright going for EITS since GYBE played the stage last year, but I see where you're coming from. The main problem I have with seeing really any of these on Sector 3 is that Sector 3 seems like it is a smaller stage, with only 2k capacity. If anything some of these names would be on Mind Melt instead of Sector 3 or Main Frame imo

yeah the 5k capacity was the main reason i was questioning my Grimes pick, but looking at the schedule truevine made, i figured it made more sense since she'll be conflicting against a Mind Melt act that will be drawing a lot of people.

As Theo pointed out, I think EITS makes sense given G!YBE played the stage in the past. Stereolab and King Krule are just to big to play Sector 3 really. I've actually wanted to pick something in round 2 but thought it would make more sense in sector 3 and decided not to. Not sure why you'd think Mount Kimbie wouldn't fit the stage? Royksopp could play both imo, a bit like Charli, Grimes etc.
Can we get a link to the excel file in the op btw somehow Juliegocatsnu and can we get an update how much everyone has spent each round so far, interesting stat I found of round 1.
Mount Kimbie is a good pick for Main Frame. They were on my list for this round since they were on the same stage as Arca and Thom at DFN and played the beach stage (3rd stage down) at Melt. Definitely fit the vibe. James Blake works well there too imo.

If the budget is structured correctly someone would need to sacrifice elsewhere for having Grimes as the second biggest act on the second biggest stage on a single day.
But It doesnt actually look like Pepe did that. Grimes would be the highest name from the MF on the poster from her day as it stands now. And you could see her playing the second to last slot with Four Tet closing after or DGs playing before.
Mount Kimbie is textbook Mainframe.
Also want to note that shit like Kali Uchis and Madlib have played Sector 3. Its not completely a guitar stage

Yeah, I think I'm gonna try to have some diversity of genres in there so it doesn't look like a complete Sonara-esk line-up with only indie(rock) stuff in there (tho ofcourse, within the limits of what the stage is set up to be.).

What do you mean by this tho? Why would someone need to sacrifice an act?

Think he means sacrificing budget for acts. I got Jamie xx for 200K so the majority of my names will trend much smaller in price going forward.

yeah what fear said. If you have a bigger than normal mainframe you will likely end up with a smaller than normal mindmelt

In regards to vibes, if Grimes is a Mainframe act then Royksopp is definitely a Mainframe act. Not to mention I can't see Royksopp playing a stage capped at 2,000 people. A little surprised you listed Mount Kimbie, as others have mentioned I think they fit on Mainframe really well and they have much more of an electronic than indie sound to me.
I will say though, given the parameters of this draft I think Mainframe billings will be destined to be more multi-genre than what the stage has typically been for III Points.
