COVID-19 is over and the festival season is starting to look promising. You have acquired III Points Festival from Live Nation/Insomniac and have been tasked with programming a two-day lineup for next year’s festival. Your talent budget is $3 million dollars total for the two-day lineup. Using pre-established booking fees set by The Agent (me), your goal is to book a III Points lineup that represents the brand identity of the festival and sells out at capacity (20,000 tickets per day). The lineup must follow past editions’ festival layout and stages (detailed description of each stage below).
STAGES
MIND MELT Capacity: 15,000 # of Slots: 4 per day (8 total) Hours: 6PM - 1AM
A traditional outdoor main stage set up featuring headlining performances (headliners are never unopposed), genre variety, and larger productions.
MAIN FRAME Capacity: 5,000 # of Slots: 5 per day (10 total) Hours: 7PM - 5AM
Indoor secondary stage with industrial aesthetic. This stage features live acts in electronic and hip-hop genres, as well as leftfield / IDM / ambient acts. The closing slot of this stage is often a DJ set or high-energy electronic live act. Think of this stage as similar to Sonar or Day For Night.
ISOTROPIC Capacity: 2,000 # of Slots: 5 per day (10 total) Hours: 6PM - 3AM
Greenhouse stage with a Burning Man vibe / organic aesthetic featuring mostly house, techno, and disco. This stage can only accommodate DJs and live acts that fit in a DJ booth setting.
BOILER ROOM Capacity: 1,000 # of Slots: 5 per day (10 total) Hours: 7PM - 5AM
Broadcasting live to the world. This dance party takes place in a small warehouse and features underground DJs that more leftfield / rave / industrial sounds. Please note that it doesn’t matter if an act has played Boiler Room before. This stage can only accommodate DJs and live acts that fit in a DJ booth setting.
The talent pool is divided into 2 lists. Both lists have been curated for acts who are alive, are within budget, and stylistically make sense to play III Points. These acts have been gathered from the rosters of various agencies (both major and independent).
List 1: This list includes acts that require full stage setups and production. These acts can ONLY be slotted in MIND MELT, MAIN FRAME, or SECTOR 3 and CANNOT be slotted in ISOTROPIC or BOILER ROOM.
List 2: This list includes acts that can fit in a DJ booth setting. These acts can ONLY be slotted MAIN FRAME, ISOTROPIC, or BOILER ROOM and CANNOT be slotted in MIND MELT or SECTOR 3.
If a drafted act becomes inactive during the draft (i.e. passes away), the participant is allowed to replace them immediately with an undrafted act from the lists (depends on the availability of the lists). The replacement act must be equal or less in dollar-value to the dropped act.
If a drafted act becomes “cancelled” during the draft, the participant is allowed to drop them but not replace them.
Each phase of the game will represent a different stage at the festival. Draft order will be randomly generated and will continue as a snake draft for each phase. There will be a new randomly generated draft order for each phase.
Phase 1 (Main Frame):Acts from both List 1 and 2 can be drafted. Round 1 (1 pick) Round 2 (1 pick) Round 3 (1 pick) Round 4 (1 pick) Round 5 (1 pick) Round 6 (2 picks) Round 7 (3 picks)
Phase 2 (Isotropic): Only acts from List 2 can be drafted. Round 8 (1 pick) Round 9 (1 pick) Round 10 (1 pick) Round 11 (2 picks) Round 12 (2 picks) Round 13 (3 picks)
Phase 4 (Sector 3):Only acts from List 1 can be drafted. Round 22 (1 pick) Round 23 (1 pick) Round 24 (1 pick) Round 25 (2 picks) Round 26 (3 picks)
Phase 5 (Boiler Room): Only acts from List 2 can be drafted. Round 27 (2 picks) Round 28 (2 picks) Round 29 (3 picks) Round 30 (3 picks)
Each participant will make a total of 46 picks total. All picks are exclusives. There will be no free agency.
Each participant will have 2 hours to make their pick between the hours of 9AM - 9PM EST. Clock stops between 9PM - 9AM but picks can still be made. If a pick is missed, the draft will continue as if a pick was made and the participant can select from any remaining acts at the time they make their pick. If a player is still on the clock from a previous turn because their time expired without making a selection, the 2 hour wait for their turn is waived when their next turn comes around. A maximum of two picks are allowed to be "made up" if missed. If a drafter has missed two (or more) picks then when their next turn is up, they may only make two selections. Any other outstanding picks are lost.
Only exceptions are for those participants who live outside of US time zones.
TRADES & SALES
Trades involving acts, money, and/or picks/draft positions are allowed. A participant may buy or sell an act from another participant at any mutually agreeable price tag. All participants must publicly verify the terms of the trade / sale. Acts that are traded or sold must be slotted in the same stage that they were slotted for initially.
Because every participant’s lineup must have 46 acts total and a specific number of acts per phase/stage, participants are free to drop any acts at any moment in the draft without a refund. Dropped acts do not go back into the talent pool. If at the end of each phase, a participant has less than the acts required per phase, they must use their remaining budget to fill all slots. If a participant reaches the required amount of acts before each phase ends, then they must stop drafting.
THE AGENT
IRL booking, slots are negotiated upon confirmation. In this draft, The Agent has the power to veto any picks for acts that may not be essential in the stage that they are being slotted for (example: don’t put Solomun in Boiler Room). If a pick is vetoed by The Agent, the draft order DOES NOT continue until a valid pick is made or pick window expires.
Additionally, picks that are over-budget will be automatically denied by The Agent. Participants must then re-pick but the draft order may continue.
Participants are allowed to request “Stage Changes” for acts via PM. If approved, these stage changes will be made public in a post.
VOTING
Voting will be conducted via bracket head-to-head matchups. After the draft is completed, there will be a seeding poll open for 48 hours. Posters and schedules are required. An asset package with III Points logos, fonts, design elements will be provided closer to the end of the draft.
After the final three/four is determined by the bracket, a panel of III Points team members will vote on the winning lineup via rank-based voting.
B2Bs
Each participant is allowed (but not required) to include one special B2B set per day. This is essentially a superjam as both DJs involved must already be on the participant’s lineup. The B2B may be slotted in either Isotropic or Boiler Room. The artists involved must be DJs, not live acts.
List I:This list includes acts that require full stage setups and production. These acts can ONLY be slotted in MIND MELT, MAIN FRAME, or SECTOR 3 and CANNOT be slotted in ISOTROPIC or BOILER ROOM. BOLDED acts can ONLY be slotted in MIND MELT.
List 2: This list includes acts that can fit in a DJ booth setting. These acts can ONLY be slotted MAIN FRAME, ISOTROPIC, or BOILER ROOM and CANNOT be slotted in MIND MELT or SECTOR 3.
