Seems like he can pretty well demonstrate that his interview was a sham if the Giants had made up their mind. Whether that's racial discrimination or not might be more difficult to prove, but if the Rooney Rule was instituted to combat admittedly racist hiring practices, and it's being made a mockery of, it follows that the hiring practices are still racist.
If the stuff about the owner paying him to lose is true and can be proven that's a massive scandal on its own. It's one thing to trade players away and tank, but throwing games is completely unacceptable. Gambling is far too important to the NFL.
Gambling is far too important to them now, that is. We've seen plenty of teams call it a day in December, but wanting to tank a whole season is just some bullshit. I wonder if somebody like Dan Campbell wouldve body slammed Stephen Ross then held a presser afterwards to tell them what he wanted him to do every week.
even without the Watson thing, the Bills OC seems like a great choice over Flores despite the dolphins having one big run, he's under .500 over two years, not a lot of coaches get more years w that record
The Bills were 6-0 and outscored the Dolphins like 214 to 106 in the last three seasons. Hiring Flores over Daboll would've been a crime.

This is such a bad take I'm almost thinking you're parodying yourself here.
I don't think the problem is specifically in the league not hiring Poc HCs, because the coordinator pool/college head coach pool, there were 14 black head coaches in fbs out of over 100 in 2020 if this search is correct.
the problem w the rule is having to have the sham interview even if the guy you want is the obvious slam dunk like Harbaugh
it's hard to tell if Bieniemy is waiting for the right job, or to take the Chiefs over, DeMeco is turning down interviews to stay in SF, but they both seem sought after

the Texans seem like a special case of awful so I'd buy it with them, but he might not want to coach here
I read all these articles about his claim and still not seeing the racist aspect directed specifically towards his situation. It is a shame there's only one POC head coach in the NFL but there needs to be something more tangible then, "I didn't get the job" or "I was fired" as the basis for your entire claim that it was due to race. And I agree about these interview mandates... having them in place just to say you're doing something to address equality is counter-productive because these candidates that don't get the job are going to tell they're disingenuous.

What exactly do you think would make this racist?
Not sure I understand your question. What do I think would make what racist... his situation? Probably something that shows racism.

Yes - for Brian Flores lawsuit to have merit, what would have to exist?
I mean, the lawsuit could have merit based on a lot of different factors. As someone pointed out already the biggest accusation might be the claim that he was told to tank games. That would be a huge problem for the Dolphins and the league if it could be proven true. But from only what's been reported so far, I didn't see any racist actions from his claims of not being hired. If he has something else down the road that shines more light on that, then that changes things.

I'm asking what would have to happen for you to think it's racist. Does there need to be an organizational policy that says "We won't hired African-American head coaches"? Is it a statement from the owner to Flores along the lines of "we are only giving you this interview because we are required to by the NFL"?
I'm not really trying to play gotcha or anything. I'm using this particular lawsuit but trying to ask more generally what would be evidence of a race-based hire.

No, I get it... its a fair question. You can't really answer that because yeah, no one is going to make their racism clear as day if they were using race as a reason to discriminate. But on the flip side, insinuating that every non hire of a POC head coach has racist undertones, is always wrong. So yeah, unfortunately it would be hard to prove without clear evidence. And it's pretty clear that while the intent of the Rooney rule was good, it isn't working.
I don't know enough about the ins and outs of the diversity hiring aspect of the suit so I'm not going to speak to that.
The off the books bonus per loss should definitely lead to the swift removal of Ross (and whoever else was involved). (If backed by evidence, obvs.)
Also, the attempt to hold an off-shore tampering session with a division opponent's QB needs investigation. Sure, tampering happens pretty frequently but that was obviously several steps beyond the pale.
(All of this is assuming that Flores has the receipts.)
I'm kind of surprised that this all happened now and not at least waiting until the hiring cycle was complete. I guess it speaks to his integrity. Or his certainty that he wasn't going to get hired in this cycle and now will likely never be hired again. Such a whiplash month on the Flores front. He went from a borderline shocking fire to setting a flame thrower on the league like three weeks.
Probably someone posted this with the name change, but tweets are usually cock-blocked at work. The uniforms don't look bad, and I don't hate the bent-metal/3D "W" logo though except that it could possibly be dated in a few years. The white ones look a little like Tampa's all white uniforms, and the all-blacks look similar to the Steelers' all blacks except for not having stripes and a different number font.

I just lol at people calling them the Washington Commies.
Washington Football Team had really grown on me. Being such an old organization it didn't feel too out of place. I like WFT a hell of a lot better than Commanders
Their designer had to have done work on some MLS franchises cause thats the only way to explain some of the shit on the jerseys. Are they going to mix and match? Cause going out there every week like its color rush thursday nights is gonna be whack.

I don't get why it's such a bad take
Because there's not a team in the world and would think - "well, one was the head coach, the other the offensive coordinator, and the offensive coordinator's team went 6-0 in those six games so he's a better candidate"? Why not the DC? Why not the offensive quality control coach? Why not the special teams coach? Obviously there are a lot of factors that go into it and head to head performance, with unequal responsibilities, is not one of them.
The case for Daboll is that you think he worked wonders with Josh Allen and will do the same with Daniel Jones. I get why the Giants have to do that - they have Jones and their quickest path to winning is getting something out of him. I think you could just as easily say that Flores took a franchise that was *trying to lose* and took them from 5-11 his first year to 19-14 in his second two years, their first back to back winning seasons in what, 15 years?
I think Flores being fired was deplorable, and think he's one of the best 32 people to coach in the league currently.
The best thing that comes out of this is that next season all the teams will be able to have 2 helmets. So there will def be more proper throwbacks. Did Brady not want to put on creamsicle?

I've been listening to some podcasts and conversations about the lawsuit, and I think there are some tangible things that could potentially come out in the investigation that might prove the racist elements of the case.
One example would be when they do a deep dive into all the head coach contracts from the past X amount of years and look for trends and differences between white coaches and coaches of color. If there are significant variations between the types of incentives or added barriers for coaches of color, then a case could be made that there is systematic racism.
Another example would be if they dig into the emails or text messages of owners or video or transcripts of meetings and they find that owners are overtly stating racist shit, or saying they're only asking this coach or that coach to be interviewed to fulfill the Rooney Rule, then there's your case.

I agree that Flores shouldn't have been fired. He overperformed with the talent he had in Miami.
My earlier point, since it's back in conversation, was that if you want to look at two candidates, their head to head can be informative. Daboll's offense averaged 36 points a game on defensive pedigreed Flores.
Obviously it's not the be all end all in decision making and I was being hyperbolic calling it a crime. But if I were Daboll that would be one of the ways that I would sell myself over a known candidate like Flores.

Agreed, those would be examples of something tangible that would certainly bring more credibility to the racial component. But right now, that's lacking. I'd also say that a team only interviewing a minority coach because they're obligated to by the Rooney rule isn't necessarily showing racism. It could just be that they really already have their mind made up on who they want for the job and everyone else (regardless of race) isn't really being considered.
