Wanted to jot down my full thoughts on Jagaurs 2021 so far.
The first thing is that as it relates to my job, selling sponsorships for the team, there is no question that the difference between Urban Meyer (especially in Gator country) and Trevor Lawrence vs Arthur Smith and Justin Fields is absolutely astronomical. Our ticketing kids are fucking eating right now. Im fairly certain Trevor will take his first snap in a packed house with celebrities at our games in Jacksonville. I think theres a small chance we get a Monday or Sunday night game this year for the first time in almost a decade. If not, those will begin to come next year. So from a business perspective, there is no debate about how good things are right now.
So as for Urban, I think the biggest positive about him is that hes a culture builder. Something we desperately have needed for 10 years is to get the fucking stench out of our stadium. Im at a point where in principle Id be fine with getting fired in a total overhaul to make totally sure we got the funk out of the stadium, even though I have no impact on the football side. But equipment managers, ball boys, etc... get the fuck out and pressure wash all the offices. Every dusty corridor... while extreme, it just got to that point. Nobody has figured out how to turn is into a legitimate NFL franchise and we’ve managed to have some scouts that have stayed around for 25 years... wtf is that?
But Urban is a guy that naturally gets you to look in the mirror and try to be better. Ive heard him speak a couple times in person and walk away ready to be significantly better at my job that he has no idea about. I think at the minimum Urban Meyer will not oversee a perennial bottom feeder strictly due to the culture he will build and the respect he commands. I think players will want to play here finally. I think our offensive line for example will actually play better this year than last year even tho the players are the same. And to be clear I wouldnt have had this faith if Saleh or someone else came to town.
The coaching staff he brought together seems cool. Mostly seems like he just brought the boys back together, but there are quite a few credentials among them where again im not sure someone else could have thrown anything better together for us.
I dont even really want to talk about Trent Baalke. Fucking hated that we kept him and that we kept the entire scouting staff from the last few years. Again lets get the full stench out of the building and not leave the people responsible for actually building the shittiest franchise in the league in tact. I feel like we did this mostly because its hard to flip over that team 3-4 months prior to the Draft. And also because Urban was like “keep this Baalke guy so I can run the fuck over him.” Dont think a high powered GM would want to come in and take a clear back seat to Urban.
In Free Agency, I think we may have accidentally did a great job. I dont think the class was that good and Im not sure there was anyone worth splurging on to hard. I kinda wonder if Urban wanted to go bigger and failed... which ended up being the best case scenario. But we added some good players to the defense and didnt break the bank. We have won enough Free Agency Rings over the years for me to think that making 2 extra splash signings would have been a major positive.
Then the Draft. Anyone on the planet could have selected Lawrence. Urbans defense of the ETN pick os that the Jaguars were the worst big play team in the league and you cant expect to string together 13-14 play drives all the time in the NFL. So since we literally dont have any fast, home run players on the team, it made ETN even more of a need and you can tell that was still his thinking with the Florida wr he was sad to miss out on. I totally buy what he is saying, but I think the NC RB the jets got in the 5th round could have served that purpose just as fine and we could have made progress in a more imprtant area.
That said, it is fun to shut my brain off a bit and say “fuck it ETN and Trevor will be fun as shit for the next 4 years and it was a luxury 2nd first rounder anyways.”
Then I will say I really really like what we did in rounds 2-3. I think Cisco could be a ling term solution at safety for us as many considered him the best in the draft pre injury. I like the tackle as well Walker Little who dropped because he opted out of the covid year. And the more I look at the CB Campbell the more I get pumped about our season. Weve legitimately added 4 solid players to our secondary this offseason. Complete overhaul to go along with CJ Henderson. I also think our run defense will be much improved due to additions.
The biggest reason I think out ceiling is 9-8 this year is because outside of Josh Allen, we dont have anyone on the team that can sniff the quarterback.
I also kinda wished Urban was able to pull of a huge move or something with all his street cred. Like imagine if he was able to rip his homie Michael Thomas from the Saints or something.
With all of that, it would be ridiculous for me to complain or pretend like we should be in any better spot than we are right now.
That's disappointing. They need to hold this thing in Buffalo.
Get a new stadium and the nfl will listen. La follows 🤷🏻♂️
Nah. We may eventually but the current stadium is fine. Sightlines are great from everywhere. There's ample parking for tailgating. Tickets are affordable. A new stadium jeopardizes all of that. I hope that they continue to just invest in upgrading the current place. We don't need Jerry World bells and whistles.
it's an independent offshoot of the community from r/nflstreams, aggregates every stream available. Usually buff, grandma, and east all have really high quality streams for every game. If one isn't working to your standards, just try another

Ah. I live in Buffalo now. I haven't cared enough about a non-Bills, non-national game to seek out a stream in a long time.

I don't have cable of any kind, and antennas don't work in my area for whatever reason, so if I wanna watch anything live, I gotta hit the high seas
Theres probably going to be a streaming package after next season when Sunday Ticket might not get renewed by Directv. So thats probably going to benefit most people who have tried to cord cut the last few years. If they can do something like NBA League Pass with a reasonable price point every month of the season then thats a much better route. Im sure plenty of people are tired of forking over $100 a month to get every game and only watch 3 or 4 of em weekly unless you just stick to red zone. Directv has given me 3 free seasons of Sunday Ticket just cause, theyre that desperate to try to get nee customers.

Nice analysis. Agree with a lot of it. Your 9-8 ceiling reminded me that nfl going 17 game season this year. I have Jags 7-10 until I see the real schedule come out. 2 of those 7 wins against Houston.

I think its def gonna be an option for them when the time comes. I doubt there will be a shortage of people who wouldnt fork over $20 a month to just have red zone 4 months out of the year.
Broncos starting right tackle blew out his Achilles. First time I’ve ever been extremely happy to see an injury on my team. We signed him in 2019 FA to a 4 year 50M contract. In his first season, he played 63 snaps (the scoop in Denver was he was cleared to play but claimed he was injured for like half the season. Last offseason he opted out for COVID. That pushed his 2nd contract year and last with major required money to the 2021 season meaning we couldn’t cut his ass and were stuck with him in the roster
Until yesterday. Injury happened away from the Denver facilities so sounds like it will be a NFI and we won’t have to pay him 10M. This was literally the only way we were getting out of this deal. Good riddance.
