I don't think people hate Duke purely for their success. They fairly consistently have some of the douchiest personalities in college basketball on the court.

But it’s been really hard to give fuck all about sports with all the craziness going on in our world. I turn it on and say to myself, “What’s the point?”
Always love and interested in sports. Also, it's an escape for some people. You can acknowledge the craziness of the real world and still find enjoyment of sports imo.
The hate on Duke is hilariously too high compared to other successful NCAA teams that have had just as much, if not more, success (UNC, Kentucky, Kansas, ect) with the fraction of the hate.
But Duke has no many annoying white players and coach K is fucking annoying too.

Yeah there's the racial component to it and then also the extremely annoying "well, he's smart. He went to Duke." which is obviously not true and not how major college sports work, particularly basketball where the roster is small and isn't going to affect academic metrics the way a football team conceivably could.
And all of that is why it's so much fun when JJ Redick says dumb shit on his podcast.

I really hated Scheyer too. And of course Grayson Allen was a total goon. Laettner was slightly before my time but if you're a Kentucky fan it's required to hate Laettner for stomping on Aminu Timberlake, not getting called for it, and hitting that shot where Pitino didn't guard the inbound. And then you have to see that shit every March.

A lot of them became coaches too. I think the only Duke player I ever really liked was Grant Hill.
