Yeah calling me out for being quiet is fair at this point. I've been taking care of my grandparents this week and haven't had time to devote to actually contributing. Also my first time spending time with them since COVID hit so Mafia is in the backseat priority-wise.
I liked our initial runoff of four and am/was happy with any of them going. I have some time now though so I'll go over things since I posted last and respond/analyze/etc. I tend to only play Mafia when I have chunks of time these days.
I get it and honestly have been in that same boat this week with house/mortgage shit being the priority , not inforoo.
The draft cult is not pleased but it is what it is. Gonna try to do a reread of this tonight

"people are protecting ted" "so i better not vote for him!"
I was originally confused here and had this same reaction. I think Maddog is saying this is a reason to stay away from Teddy from a self preservation standpoint. Like if he goes to the final round with him he will be the exile because people are protecting Teddy. Can't say I'm in love with that line of thinking at this point of the game, but whatever.
it's not that white and black because I also think potent is a good choice.
talked about it some post whack, but he also slipped by d1 without a vote and that's good enough for me
I know I'm like, old and not fun anymore but sometimes I legit can't tell when people are joking in this game. Dan saying he was Mafia with you certainly reads to me like a joke (and I'm sure others did as well), but it seems like you're taking it seriously, which is kinda a bit of a head scratcher. I mean, if Dan is Mafia, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to even jokingly out himself. I mean I guess it could be a "hide in plain sight" type thing but otherwise I don't think it accomplishes much for Mafia-Dan. In the end this makes your reaction more sus to me than what he said.
I again feel like Potent was taking shit weirdly seriously here. Similar to the post I quoted that was his deadly serious response to rummy joking about him voting for her even though she was house hunting all day. Then Jaz does the same thing. He couches it in being an old timer. I don't know why either of them couldn't tell that Kanye and Teddy were fucking around.
Eh. Dan already said this but I don't think Teddy was fucking around. Teddy Flair - were you fucking around?
Over the past couple years the amount of jokes and drunk posts in this game has increased dramatically, and yes it's been an adjustment to figure out what of it is suspicious and what isn't.
Interesting to me that pretty much everyone, myself included, is on the narrative that rummy voters need a look at. I think it’s correct atm but I Wonder what the meta implication of it is.
This reads to me kinda like pointing at nothing, especially since he himself agrees with it. Personally I don't think it's particularly useful to look at splits with a D1 Mafia exile when there are role reveals. It's already a given that one Mafia was on Rummy (Tranter), and with role reveals there's extra incentive for a Mafia to stay on Mafia for distancing. So while there's good reason for another Mafia to be on Rummy, there's better reason than usual to think there was one or even two Mafia on Tranter as well. It's a dead end for me.
Notes: This game started out weirdly aggressive for really no reason at all, with a lot of focus on Rummy.
Pretty much everyone ignored my idea about not switching at all, and we had a lot of switches. I think townies just have a lot of anxiety over their initial votes and they assume there's a problem with leaving their vote on the person they initially randomly voted for, so they decide to instead randomly switch their vote away. This also allows for mafia to have way more control over the runoff because they're able to maneuver around without looking suspicious at all.
There were 3 initial votes for Tranter, being Maddog, Jortles, and a superstack from Jaz. Would not at all be surprised if 1 of these 3 are mafia.
We skipped 4 person runoff and went straight to 3. None of the 3 Tranter voters switched off in round 1.
Lots of very bizarre switches in round 2. The highlight for me is Potent using a revote on Tranter, then later switching off to put Rummy into the runoff ahead of Tranter. I switched from Dan to Tranter to put him back in the runoff, taking Dan out, also giving Rummy a revote. I did this because I voted for Dan originally because of a joke and I really had no reason to vote Dan and Tranter's posts were rubbing me the wrong way, and I don't actually care all that much about people in the runoff having revotes because everyone else should end up voting the way they want to anyways, leading to the same result that you'd get from all the complicated switches made to ensure someone in the runoff doesn't get a revote.
As I said in my whack analysis post, I do think the whack is intended to make us look at Dan, but looking back I do want to also look at Teddy, especially considering we haven't had an inspector reveal yet. I also want to look at Potent for those round 2 switches
In response to the first bolded phrase: iirc this is a reversal from the way things used to be. It used to be that if you moved your vote you would have to have a semi-decent reason for doing so or you'd garner suspicion. Things have moved so that now Mafia and town move for no real reason all the time. Both ways have their advantages and disadvantages imo.
yeah, i'll be honest, i don't really vibe with the fact that MULTIPLE people have declared "strong town reads" on Theo. he is prob third on my sus list
He and Jaz both unprovoked and unnecessarily hurt Tranter on Day 1 with pretty big moves, but we know base don last game that would be nothing new for Theo.
It's weird to me that both Theo and Jortles find my initial vote for Tranter noteworthy. (Or maybe they don't and I'm just being defensive.) People generally wait for all the initial votes to come in before they start switching, and it was only five hours into the game. I don't think anyone's ever been exiled in D1R1 sans Inspector reveal, especially with only initial votes and no switches. It's quite a reach to say that I put Tranter in exile position when it's a given that there will be movement on D1. Expanding the runoff seemed boring so I threw my vote on Tranter. Big whoop.
@jostles — some of the quotes you pulled from MD definitely remind me of shit I’ve said trying to sound chill/go-with-the-flow-y while actually pushing an agenda bc I’m mafia.
I feel like a runoff of potent/Teddy/Md might be primo
Dan feels the least sus out of the runoff for me and a Teddy-Potent-Maddog runoff sounds pretty good
Just pointing out that Rummy and Theo expressed an interest in the same runoff (and got it). Mafia like piggyback off of Townie ideas when they're in the wrong direction so I wanted to note it. While I'm not particularly suspicious of Theo, he did "take the bait" (his words) and vote for Dan in D2R1, only to be the first to move their vote (off of Dan and onto Teddy) after Maddog placed his revote at the beginning of D2. Theo and Silver were also my biggest Town reads last game so I'm not putting much stock into who "feels townie" to me this game.
Teddy is starting to feel like a waste of an exile to me. Maybe we should kill one of the people that tried to save Tranter now so we aren't staring at it all game.
There was like two hours between your vote for Teddy and thinking he's a waste of an exile. What changed?
At this point there's nothing provoking me to move my vote. With both Maddog and Potent being the two to move their vote off Tranter (and that revote/excuse exchange between them that Jortles and I discussed earlier D2), they're the two I'd like to see move forward. If I'm as way off-base as I usually am, my second pair to look at would be Dan/Theo because of the whack and Theo's move off Dan as mentioned above.
I think Jortles is playing more aggressively than usual (at least his word choice is stronger) and I agree that Maddog is a bit more talkative (and Rummy less so), but otherwise that's pretty much all I got.

Jaz I pointed out your initial vote for Tranter because it was a superstack putting him in exile position, which meant there had to be some switches to force a runoff. This is a little strange because in the same post you’re talking about how there’s a lot of unecessary switches that happen in round 1, when you forced switches to happen without any reason.

Switches were going to happen regardless of where I put my vote. It was D1R1. That’s my point.

I find it super odd that Teddy didn't move to me, at the very least.
That pretty much seals it, IMO—he was town. No way his maf team would’ve let him go so passively when there was the simplest/most logical of all ways to take it to a two way , him merely moving his own vote. Wouldnt have been anyone else saving him or anything.

I’m really mad at myself for not checking in on time. If I had noticed Teddy wasn’t even moving off MD onto Potent to grant himself at least the chance at survival, I would’ve made the move over to potent myself. Or even MD ffs ugh
