I definitely don’t think they feel any obligation to elevate the lineup to justify a price increase. They just spent a year and a half losing a shit ton of money. Of course they raised prices to help recoup that.
Honestly I’m just glad it looks like Rina Sawayama will be there, since A) she rocks and B) it’s confirmation it won’t be 100% the same.

If I can’t have all the artists on the 2020 lineup I don’t like replaced with artists I like more, can we at least shuffle some acts around so Sunday is a little stronger? Thanks.

If we as attendees are suffering the consequence of absurdly high insurance premiums post covid then thats the true price of the festival business now. Raising the price just because you can ( and youre broke ) isnt a good enough reason to do it because eventually the bubble bursts and people will move on. I mean if more people saw the value of what they could get between 2 weekends of Primavera or one weekend of Coachella, the answers pretty clear of where people would put their money. Thats why I feel that its a big make or break line up sk it needs to have the kind of changes that will make it worth the wait. We saw what Lollapalooza did in thinking that any kind of line up will be a sell out post covid and it isnt panning out how they thought.
To be fair, Coachella has raised it's prices every year since I've been going (2016), so anyone who decided to not hold on to passes should have anticipated that. I don't think the line up necessarily has to reflect the price change
I think theres going to be plenty of people who wont feel that good if lets say the lineup was a carbon copy of 2020 and anyone who had to buy a ticket last month got the shaft. A $100 increase when it was ~$15 on average before that is not something to totally anticipate. The little things such as tacking on a charge for using layaway is some deep dive financial shit, though.
If it ends up at the stage where it will return to one weekend ( which is still inevitable ) then paying about $600 will be the norm because AEG/GV are anticipating peoples willingness to pay a premium to go to the festival if its only happening once. Its for sure going to change the booking process since anyone who performs now only gets one shot to get it right. There wont be any do overs if you tank.
Primavera might be cheaper for the actual ticket, but with international flights, it's going to cost a lot more for 90% of Coachella attendees. It's not really a competition between the two.
Also, barring some kind of unforeseen disaster, I see virtually no chance of it returning to one weekend. The demand is there for tickets, even if it's not max capacity sell out both weekends. I don't think we're necessarily on the upswing of Coachella popularity, but if anything, it's a sustainable plateau, not a bubble that will burst.

Who's really going to be disappointed with a nearly identical lineup? The original 2020 lineup is still better than anything else in North America that's been announced post-Covid. Rage still hasn't played any dates, Frank still hasn't announced anything else.

Eh, I get it, but not in the way Supre is talking about. Coachella excels at snagging acts that are about to blow up, and researching the small print names is much more rewarding than with most other fests. So if 90% of the acts are returning then I’m losing that element of the experience, which stinks but I’m not gonna throw a fit about it given the circumstances.
But, the vast majority of folks don’t give a shit about that, and acts like Megan and Lil Nas X just continuing to blow up the last two years just makes the same lineup more valuable.
If I can’t have all the artists on the 2020 lineup I don’t like replaced with artists I like more, can we at least shuffle some acts around so Sunday is a little stronger? Thanks.
This I totally agree. For me, personally, Friday was overly stacked. Realistically I maybe would have been able to see 40% of the acts I wanted to see. While Sunday was super light to me. So a shuffling of days would be awesome. Plus they had too many similar artists playing the same day. Similar style hiphop acts Friday, all the R&B loaded up on Sunday, etc.
There are certainly a good number of acts who they seem to have booked banking on a big jump, like Summer Walker or Ari Lennox, that seemed to be a bet to blow up, and haven't really, at least not closer to the level of the other names on the second line. Similarly, I don't think anyone's going to be mad if you swap Calvin Harris for Olivia Rodrigo.
And, I do think you could have the greatest lineup in the world, but if it's the same thing from two years ago, there will be an inevitable let down. It's just human nature, you take for granted what you already have.

A lot of that second line was a bust, but a lot of the 3rd line and below blew up big time. They could easily bump down the Ari's of the line up to 3rd line and bump up the Doja's of the line up to the 2nd line. So it makes sense for 2022. I know that some of those artists won't want to downgrade in line up placement, but those can be the ones who get replaced.
I’d love to know how many people holding tickets right now can name 15 acts on the 2020 lineup.
There are people who bought tickets who don't even know who 2020's headliners were.
I told my friend (who has held on to tickets) Coachella would probably keep the same headliners from 2020 and he said “Awesome, I want to see Tame!” Lmao

Question about the rumors thread on Reddit, they have Snowbombing artists listed as Out, but it’s not the same weekend anymore so that doesn’t matter, correct? Or am I missing something?

yeah, I honestly don't think snowbombing artists are excluded this year, but it seems stated as fact on reddit. the OP of the sticky said he messaged some acts that said they won't be there. he also says they are "probably out" and not confirmed out but didn't know where else to list them.

hoping for Bicep to make it onto the lineup.
Ya gotcha. You by chance know which artists he messaged? I wouldn’t expect a ton of overlap based on the type of electronic artists Coachella is booking these days. But if I’m hoping to see Prospa or Sofia Kourtesis it’s probably better that they’ll be active and doing shows in April than not.

they didn't specify from what I saw but I haven't kept a close eye on that thread in a bit.

So with Stagecoach dropping their lineup 4 months early, could we see an earlier Coachella lineup announcement? If a majority of artists from 2020 are returning, I don't see much of a need to wait until January. If Coachella's timeline were to follow Stagecoach, that would mean an October announcement. Also, Coachella's website used to always say the lineup would be released in January in the FAQs but this isn't mentioned anywhere on the site anymore.

This makes a lot of sense, but I'm not holding my breath.

Doubt it. They really dont have to sell tickets? The normal 3 month window is still fine in this situation cause what if they arent done with booking acts and you saw what went down with Kanye at the 11th hour.

I don't think we'll get a full lineup until january but it would be pretty cool if they revealed a name here and there up until the lineup is released.
