There are so many things driving the seemingly waning festival interest and especially the Coachella interest.
Coachella's brand started shifting around 2014 and made a big shift in 2018, and any brand shift is going to alienate people. Some of this is outside of Coachella's control; rock music just isn't that popular right now, the legacy rock acts are getting really old, dying off, or have already been booked, and there aren't a lot of notable reunions left out there to get. Still, it's hard to deny a stark shift in the brand of the lineup and that's going to have an effect on attendance. It was after 2011 that PT said there was enough demand for 3 or more weekends. That demand seemed to hold up awhile but it's clearly lower now.
It's fucking expensive to travel for any festival, but especially Coachella, and it's gotten significantly worse as increased capacity has combined with local communities restricting short term rentals for a worst case scenario of increased demand and decreased supply. I'm not sure how the fest can solve this without building hotels or something. This might be the biggest problem Coachella faces.
This year in particular, inflation hurts - not just for the people buying tickets but also, I'd imagine, for the acts. Changes in gas prices mean it's much more expensive to tour.
Covid, of course
One-day, single-genre festivals are both cannibalizing potential attendees and potential acts from lineups
Not sure there's a clear solution for Coachella here. They chose to emphasize the experience itself, which I think was smart, but the experience itself is hard to fully appreciate until you've actually gone.
This is basically copy pasta now. They're still selling twice as many tickets as Lolla/ACL/Bonnaroo, the only people who would consider that cause for concern are posting in this thread.
This is fair. I'm just anxious for set times and looking for engagement wherever I can find it.

Looks like Charli XCX + special guests (including shygirl) will be doing an offsite show on the Sunday of weekend 1. Too bad Coachella couldn't snag her again on the new lineup as I'm loving the new album, hopefully this puts her as a potential guest for some Sunday shows.
I somehow managed to return an extra wristband thru Lyte. I also returned an extra shuttle pass last night. However - how do I know which of our physical items were invalidated?
Trying to get through the customer service now....

Alright, I wanted to see if anyone had any advice/suggestions for my brother and his ticket dilemma. So, back in 2019 be bought tickets for 2020 during the presale. COVID happened and as we all know Coachella returns this week and next week for 2022. He originally bought 2 weekend 1 passes during the 2019 presale. When the new dates were announced for 2022, he used Lyte to swap his 2 tickets to weekend 2 passes. He got an order confirmation of this swap from Lyte and everything was good.
When the lineup dropped, he decided not to go. Instead of selling the tickets through Stubhub or Lyte I told him he could sell them to two of my friends who wanted to go so everyone could avoid the resale fees and I could just give them the tickets when he got them in. They buy the tickets from him and the last step would be for them to deliver in so he could give them to me and I would give them to my friends. We have not received the tickets in yet. We checked with Lyte and festival ticketing to see what was going on. Apparently, one of the tickets was returned (despite having the order confirmation of the weekend swap being done) without his knowledge or any acknowledgement from Lyte/festival ticketing of that happening. Due to this, they are now invalidating the swap and now we are stuck with one weekend 1 pass when we need a weekend 2 pass.
It's no problem for my friends to get tickets on Stubhub since they'll be saving money on the secondary prices but I want to make sure my brother doesn't get screwed by Lyte and festival ticketing out of the money. Any suggestions?
Why are people even concerned? Resale going lower than usual? I mean Kanye did just drop out last week.
because of that shift away from Coachella-as-counterculture to Coachella-as-cultural-heavyweight that's been alluded to, there's been a constant anxiety among the kinds people who, frankly, are the types of people who spend time shitposting on music festival message boards that Coachella was eventually going to be in trouble as a result of that shift from Beck to Beyonce. So there's always this implicit framing that trouble is looming for Coachella when this conversation comes up in places that want to see the Chemical Brothers booked to sub.
it's undeniable that they're not instantly selling out like they (possibly) had done a few years ago, but they're still lapping the field. Coachella isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
Patience is a virtue. Got a W2 ticket for 200. See y’all back in the desert 🏜
do tell where this was found
Twitter but I had to go through Twitter, OfferUp, Reddit. It seems like the going price is about 250-270 now. Get a couple people and have them bid against each other. The clock id ticking for them not you.
I feel like they release them right when everybody is ready to leave the office for the day. Like round up the troops, hit send, go get beers and let the Reddit implode over Danny Elfman vs Caribou.
