For us specifically. Each night the oracle gives the ref a name of another player. If the oracle dies at any point (exile or whack), then the role of that named person is revealed. For day 1 I’d say that the name has to be submitted before the first runoff.

Is there any reason for the oracle to reveal him/herself?

It is situational in my experience. One situation to reveal could be a day 2 pre inspector reveal to get a free name before inspector gets another guess.

Reading through the wiki role, a few things (correct where I'm wrong):
1. Oracle does not themselves find out the role of their guess. 2. Only one role is revealed through oracle. So if Oracle guesses X on D1, survives N1, guesses Y N2, dies N2, Y's role is revealed (and thus oracle is revealed, since they are dead and we got a role).
And a question:
3. Why should Oracle have to submit a name before the end of D1? Maybe there's good reason, I just don't know much about it.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I. Correct. Only the role is revealed once oracle is killed.
2. 100% correct.
3. Before d1 because there is no night 0 for Oracle to submit their first name

Are we mostly in agreement that role reveals, as we do them now, tip the scales too much? I'm fine with trying oracle, but I also think we should consider delaying role reveals a day or restricting the number of role reveals.

I think it would be cool if each Townie could start a ref-sanctioned pm thread to one person. Could start it at any point of the game.
When I was getting into the zone of pretending I was Town last game, I wanted to PM Potent to let him know that I was only superstacking him to see the reaction, and that I would be moving back to Theo ultimately.
Idea is not fleshed out, but feel like there is something there. It wold be fun if you sent a PM to someone who was in mafia and they had to further pretend to be town, and got to report their findings back to mafia. Would add a new layer of potential manipulation from both sides.

remember how i mentioned a guy i'm seeing plays on his own nerdy forum?
he said that in theirs, anyone can PM fellow players--townies and those with roles--and people can be as honest or as dishonest as they want in those conversations. sounds chaotic and great.

We could also try spicing up the mafia roles a little bit. In Town of Salem there’s a role called the framer, that chooses a town person to frame, and if the inspector checks that town, it would show as mafia. Or other ways to add confusion

That sounds interesting, can you write a rule for it that explains it for our game? Not that it would be used next game necessarily.
i would be cool doing something like only having reveal following d2, 3, 4 exiles. gives town something to work with, but lets the bigger mystery days (1 & 5) have that cloud of confusion still

I don’t think it particularly matters for d5 whether there’s reveals or not, or D4 for that matter

idk a reveal going into d5 is huge, your list of suspects is already so small at that point
