Curious and probably dumb question: Are fans of Sigur Ros fluent in icelandic? I've tried to listen to them in the past and struggle getting into them since I have no idea what they are saying. Kinda like J Balvin. Cool instrumentals, beats and rhythms though.

No, I'm not fluent in Icelandic. I enjoy their music, I don't need to understand what they are saying.

Pretty sure it’s a made up language anyways. It fits the songs and is intended to be thought of as an instrument.

I feel like most of their fans don’t speak Icelandic. I don’t and I love them. And they’re awesome live. Saw them open for Bjork once. Probably the most Icelandic thing you could ever do outside of actually going to Iceland. I kinda view the vocals like another instrument. So I don’t really need to understand what they’re saying. You just feel the emotion of the vocals with the music. I know that’s some pretentious hipster ass shit to say. Don’t judge me, haha!!!
They’re one of those bands that’s an album experience vs single songs. They you’re gonna get a lot of “LISTEN TO AGAETIS BYRJUN!!!1!” I prefer ( ) and gets played a lot here.
Block out some time. Get some headphones. Do an album. You’ll be happy you did.

I like to think of Jonsi's singing as just another instrument in the song rather than lyrics.
edit: should have kept reading since garageland already said the same thing

Sigur Ros is my favorite band, and () is my favorite album of all time. I don’t even really care what they’re saying, I just know it sounds so fucking good
my kids really liked sigur ros when they were little because they could sing along by just making noises. it was in constant rotation as their bedtime music.

I think AB is all Icelandic, Takk is a mix of Icelandic and Hopelandic, and () is totally Hopelandic (I think)
And it's not really the music, it's the experience that's so cool. If you've never seen their documentary, Heima, I highly recommend it. They play free concerts all over the Icelandic countryside for small towns who would otherwise never get live music.
