Did I miss the talk on the new MMJ album somewhere? These songs are going to kill live, some great jam potential on most of them. But man, Jim’s lyrics are rough. The message is objectively good, can’t fault him there, but ooof. Did he really need to directly reference Stranger Things and Sephora in the same song to get his point across?
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/4: knock2 3/7: Inhaler* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Inforoo's inexplicable love of Pretty Lights should be studied. Does he even make music any more?
I don’t really feel like it’s an inexplicable love. I feel like we like him but can’t really remember any times where we’ve talked about him in detail. Maybe the D4N set?

I should have skipped my college graduation for D4N still sad I didn’t go

i think his 2013 sunrise set still reverberates today. which is weird because i imagine most of the people who stayed up for that full set are long dead now. RIP in peace to all of them.

I guess I just mean I have never heard anyone talk about him outside of this website.

Bonnaroo sub talks about him a lot too. Idk, it’s not my thing. It’s just wook music.
sounds like you picked good friends, so many people in my circle talked about him, probably a time/place thing more than anything though
yeah it probably depends on how much drugs you and your friends were doing in the early 10s. If it was a lot of drugs, you heard a directly proportional amount of PL talk

I could be wrong, but I remember his lasers at this set being the first of their kind. Ala what Tame and others use now.
Music was okay but nothing that kept me there more than a half hour or so.

Regarding PL and the early 10s he also seemed to tour pretty heavily. He was a natural progression for wooks and the wook-esque crowd to transition to more straight electronic rather than just jamtronica music. Like all the STS9/Bisco kids I knew loved PL. He was electronic but also felt more organic and he even toured with a drummer early on which somehow made it more OK for jamband people to enjoy.
He also released all his music for free directly on his website, which was fucking wild at the time. So everybody was running around with all his records on their phones or ipods.
I guess all of that left quite an impression on people who were of a certain age at that time.
The PL live band ish he was doing prior to his long break were fire. Not sure if any of y’all saw those shows but I got to catch 4 and all were incredible. Yes I was on a lot of drugs but it still was super good. I just like his sound. Besides Daily Bread I’ve not found another artists to sound similar. Also those lasers are super tight.
