I agree that mistakes happen, though I think in this particular circumstance the game was lucky. Lucky Rummy caught it in 8 seconds, lucky it wasn't something more consequential, etc. Had it been different, it could have ruined the game. But it didn't. Admittedly my first thought when JTR mentioned it to me was that there should be some sort of ban, but I care more about preserving the integrity of future games than punishing someone for a mistake. So I think an alternate solution to the Dead Thread is a more productive idea.
And Carini, rn you sound like someone complaining about other people getting their student loans forgiven because you already paid yours back. A ban is like a week of not playing an internet message board game? It's not that serious. If you choose to never play again because no one's getting banned and you did at one point years ago...I think that'd be a shame; I've enjoyed playing with you.
Completely unrelated aside from the fact it was brought up: I've actually been considering relinquishing the Commissioner role for a bit now. I'd like to think I do a good job of weighing in on issues and considering other people's ideas and opinions, but I think that's something I can do without any sort of title to it. PMs are always open. Part of me also doesn't really think the role is necessary - we can solve most things as a group, and it's not like I actually have any sort of enforcement power (which I don't really want regardless). Very open to talk about this and get feedback though - I've had the title for a while now so I might be blind to its utility. I'm completely open to keeping it, passing it on to someone else, or dissolving the notion completely.
yeah I always think it's fun when people are like we should ask Jaz he's the commissioner and he gets tagged in a game he's not following and tells everyone he has no authority.

Also, although I do not think it would EVER be an issue with the crew we have now (love my Maf Boys xoxo), I just want to say re: that game with Viking and his verbal malice and condescension towards me.... reading it back, yeah, I did take it a bit too personally since it was pretty clear he’s just the type of self centered person who enjoys getting a rise out of people (he said it was in the name of the game, but he clearly enjoyed it). But the reality is, during those months of 2016 I was in a pretty bad depression & having some serious anxiety and insecurity issues bc of some life things going on, so to have that kind of attack at that time was more emotionally damaging to me then compared to, say, now when if someone tried to pull that on me I’d laugh them out the thread.
I say this to point out that we often don’t know what people are dealing with behind the scenes (some of us are IRL friends or talk regularly enough that we do, but)... and when it comes down to it, I will always choose preservation of my internet compadres’ psyches vs winning a game. And I think the group we have now all would, but it sucked playing that game where not only was Viking a psychopath but multiple people defended his gameplay too

Someone needs to acknowledge that the Viking post is absolutely hilarious. The fact that his message could even be produced from a game of Mafia on a messageboard is fucking wild.

I think if I hadn’t been the literal target of it, I’d read it back and laugh too. It is so extreme and insane, just a total WTF series of posts.
But as I mentioned, this was at a time when I was having a rough go of things in my personal life & it actually really did upset me. I was also like five years younger then; so yes, I do have a better gauge at letting things roll off me now, both online and IRL lol.
As someone who had undiagnosed ADD as a kid tho, I was sometimes bullied for that, like in elementary school years when my attention span issues came off as being dumb or “not getting it.” I got a handle on that pretty well by high school but by then fit the “type” of blonde girl with boobs, where people sometimes assumed I was ditzy aka dumb. Ugh idk, the shit he was pointing to just really struck a nerve, is all I’m saying.
I still don’t laugh at it now reading that game back but do see the absurdity of his posts for sure. But mostly I just feel sad for where I know my head was at five years ago when all that went down, and how it stung more then than it would for me now.
