So, confession time. I haven't seen a single MCU movie, is there one I should start with?
the one i picked is the best but its like the 18th movie or something in the series.
That's one of the reasons I've never seen it, I feel like there's so much backstory and lore that I need to see at least some of the other films first.

start with either the first Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, or Thor Ragnarok

I'm not a Marvel person at all so I haven't seen most of them but I enjoy Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy. Those might be good places to start if you aren't really a Marvel person like me.

Katy Mae here's the condensed MCU watch order i recommend to people who ask. cuts out the extremely mid stuff and can give you all the context you really need by the time you get to the finale of IW / Endgame. don't listen to any of these other jabronis and just follow this order.
Phase 1
1. Iron Man 2. Captain America TFA 3. The Avengers
Phase 2
1. Captain America TWS 2. Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Age of Ultron (if you really like Iron Man, 3 is great but not super necessary to the infinity saga)
Phase 3
1. Civil War 2. Spider-man Homecoming 3. Doctor Strange (the closest thing to "mid" on this list, but you need to know the guy) 4. Guardians 2 5. Black Panther 6. Thor Ragnarok 7. Infinity War 8. Endgame
and that's it. obviously watching all of them will give you the most complete possible experience, but this will certainly do the job while cutting out the ones that are just okay.

If you're just going to watch one, Thor Ragnarok is one of the most fun.
The original Avengers movie is pretty accessible without having seen the origin stories of the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America - The First Avenger, Thor or Iron Man 2.
Edit: Guardians of the Galaxy is a fine standalone entry, too. The Guardians are fun. The villains are over the top in a campy way.
