Can any western PA - eastern Ohio Inforoo'ers share some intel on the Pittsburgh-area music scene? Our daughter's move to the Iron City for college opens up new possibilities when visiting.
Mr. Small's Theater - We just got tickets to the Tennis show on 11/12. This former church looks like a really cool venue- like a mini-Ryman Auditorium. - How is parking in the area? Any suggestions? - Is the cafe good? Seems like a no-brainer to park early, and grab a bite and a drink before the show.
Three Rivers Arts Festival - It seems too early, but there will be free outdoor concerts the first two weekends in June, at Point State Park! This looks tempting... traf.trustarts.org/ - Anyone go in 2018 or 2019? Tips on getting to/from?
Wow I assumed Three Rivers Arts Fest wouldn't happen this year! Definitely gonna try to make over for the Caroline Rose show.
I'm from Cleveland but I frequently go to Pittsburgh for shows. Saw GBV at Mr. Smalls years ago and remember it being a really cool venue, though parking was limited to finding a side street.
Also really dig Stage AE, Club Cafe, Cattivo, Carnegie Music Hall, and the Rex Theater. Only venue I didn't like was Altar Bar, which had awful sound and was pretty gross overall.

There's a Carnegie Music Hall in Homestead that could use new seats and better AC and sound. The Carnegie Hall of Oakland is absolutely gorgeous and an amazing place to see a show, but I'd recommend getting floor seats instead of one of the two balconies. Altar Bar closed awhile back. And, I think The Rex and Brillobox closed due to the pandemic. Stage AE and Mr. Smalls are the main two to know about it. Spirit and Cattivo both will book good small bands that the Rex and Altar Bar used to get. Stage AE is a promowest venue with the indoor/outdoor setup like the one in Columbus, if you've ever been there. I have a list of capacities I can post below.
Edit: Warhol gets some decent shows in a small theatre once in a blue moon. Roxian is a refurbished theatre that is getting shows now -- I'll be at the Caribou show with some friends.

As Bikemail said, parking can be a pain in the winter at Smalls, but there's always parking in the back streets with just a further walk. I'm not sure about food in Millvale or at the cafe, but the Attic is a gem of a record store, just a few blocks away from Mr. Smalls. The sound and feel of Smalls has really improved over the years. It's definitely one of my favorite venues in the city and probably the place I've seen the most shows.
for shows at mr. smalls, there are a couple breweries right in town (grist house and strange roots) that usually have a food truck. also, baby loves tacos is delicious and iron born is detroit style pizza that we really love as an occasional treat. the entire area is walkable so you can just park wherever and grab food/drinks and walk to the show,

We're going to some weird Vango thing the night of Sylvan Esso, which wasn't my choice... Loved them last time they were at AE and at Roo. That Caribou show should be a good one. Looking forward to being back in Pittsburgh.
Thanks all, for the great feedback. Looking forward to catching some shows in Pittsburgh soon. Please keep us posted on the venues as they adjust and reopen.
Fitter Happier- that is some great info to start this thread- I appreciate your work. Your Pens will get a couple more chances, but I can’t share your pain- my team from across the state will be WATCHING the playoffs with the rest of us!
I'm half way between Pittsburgh and Cleveland, so I see a good deal of shows in the Burgh. 3 rivers arts fest is my absolute fave. Surprised its happening this year, but the lineup seems to reflect short notice. Most years traffic is off the gd hook down there, so go plenty early, and spend the day. There is a parking deck right there affiliated with the huge hotel right there(Hilton?) that is your best bet, especially if you'd like to top off the coffee cup from the wine bottle while checking on why your car smells like skunk !!! Beautiful grounds. Awesome food. Pet friendly. Well run. And usually bomb ass artists (musical) as well as rotating rosters of artists vending. Ive seen Govt Mule, Jenny Lewis, Avetts, Cowboy Junkies,Nahko and Medicine for the People, and on and on and on over the last 25 or so years there all for free. Top notch city fest in the theater district.
they also recently announced the schedule for free summer shows at the south park amphitheater and hartwood acres park.

Fiance and I will be there with a friend or two. Hope cases chill out again by then. Bright Eyes in Buffalo was our first show back, and it was so nice to be at a concert again.
Beach House (who my daughter and I share a love of) announced a 2022 world-wide tour. The tour kicks off in...Pittsburgh! Presale Tuesday 11/16. See you at Stage AE February 18!
i'll post this in upcoming shows too because this thread isn't very active. does anybody want 2 tickets for hot chip at stage ae this friday? my husband's grandmother passed away and we're not going to be able to make it. i can transfer them on axs.

We’re in it with you- in town for My Morning Jacket last night. I thought it would be canceled but Stage AE instead moved it indoors, where the boys treated us to a retro set list in a smallish club setting. Hang in there FH. This too shall pass.
don't have too much coming up, but some good ones. at the moment i have tickets for / am planning on going to the smile, soccer mommy, beyoncé and sarah sherman. maybe someday we'll be able to step outside without getting an immediate headache.

I'll say hi if we see y'all at the Smile or Soccer Mommy! Mrs. FH has been feeling like shit and has had a cough for the last two days. I definitely have had headaches, fatigue, sore/scratchy/burning sensation in throat. Here's to it passing quickly. Definitely feeling empathy for everyone else who has and is going through this.

Also, I should've really grabbed Beyonce tickets.
i hope you're both able to limit outside time until this passes. even my dog doesn't want to be out there for longer than it takes to go to the bathroom. keep an eye on stubhub, i think it'll be pretty cheap to get in for bey.
