I’m down for next time but I’m sober

100% fine. We drank and did a bit of drugs but honestly there was a huge range of people’s consumption levels. Alex was sober except I think Thursday night and they still hung out til like 3am w us the last night jumping around and screaming to LCD.

I mean I guess I shouldn’t speak for the people who “did less” or whatever since I wasn’t personally in that camp lololol (but I definitely didn’t get blackout or anything, so I guess I was prob in middle of the pack? Idk), but from what I observed it seemed like ppl on all levels of intoxication were able to vibe well together regardless.

Colorado seems like the obvious choice if we aren’t doing anywhere in the south

I'd love to keep going somewhere rural, it was pretty sick to be locked in one place with everyone, and not have to worry about bar tabs/losing folks/getting arrested/etc

I mean I thought we lost Dan for about 10 minutes and about all of us lost each other in the woods

Yup, had about 2.5 beers the entire weekend and that was it. Still the most pure, unadulterated fun I've had in a long time. 


Completely unrelated thought but I'm editing a little summer recap set to music and this trip gave me like 10 ideas for songs to use. That'll be a fun little editing challenge 

 

To clarify, my idea was drinking Malört and four loco while listening to death metal in a cabin, instead of fireball and LCD Soundsystem.  You can come along if you can hang.

Hard Times recently had a headline where they referred to Malort as tasting like "piss flavored gasoline"

Four Loco is on a different plane than those malt liquor bottles of yesterday.  I think they retooled it removing most of the "energy" components, but think really terrible tasting Koolaid that has a bunch of caffeine and was 12% abv.  I think they described it as 4-5 beers and a red bull.  I had it twice.  It was terrible twice.  The first time, I drank it too late and couldn't stop my leg from shaking all night when I was trying to go to sleep.  I originally discovered it when it was being taken to task in popular culture - then known as "blackout in a can."  The two flavors I tried back with the OG formula were both horrid.

King post by Jortles yesterday, don't think i have much to add summary-wise but am gonna write a shoutout for each individual that was on the trip, and I'll be listing them in order of how late into the nights they committed to the process aka stayed up and hung the fuck out like a tru friend:

Jake Jortles  - as i told you on the last night when we were chatting at like 330am on the basement carpet (honestly this was such a good carpet, i laid down on there a lot throughout the weekend), i knew there was like 90+% chance we'd vibe super well in person and get along swimmingly but there was also that maybe 10% chance our stubbornness and other shared traits might clash. luckily it was the former--you've got the ability to just make everyone feel included and welcome, and realistically this trip wouldn't have even happened without you. love loved watching you vibe it out on friday night once things hit and am glad i inserted just the teensiest bit of friendly peer pressure to go for it on that experience. since we were the last awake thursday with teddy, with the 5am King Bed Five-Person Snug Party on friday, and then rounding things out with Late Night Carpet Chat on Saturday, you easily snag first position here in effect.

T3ddy F1a1r  - thursday night chilling outside with you and jortles when it was just the three of us still up was lovely. definitely got to know you better through those convos. the fact that you prepped not only a bangin DJ set but also a whole damn trivia game for the trip was so dope, and we all for sure appreciate the time you put into both of those. you brought the fireball and you also brought the fire. i must admit that i gave my bloody mary on friday morning away to someone else once i realized there were anchovies in the cocktail mixer, but you're such a baller for actually bringing me the advil and bloody when i was hurting with that headache. 

tЯist♡n - as much fun as our frenemyship (mostly your dishing out insults, my pretending to think you actually hate me) can be, you know i <3 you & it had been way too long since we'd seen each other IRL. late night dancing and laughing with you is always a delight, and im glad we got so much of that on this trip. i also rly liked it when you emerged from under the table crawling on the carpet like a cat. it was just what i needed at that precise moment. honestly a tough call between you and teddy here for 2nd/3rd because while you absolutely showed up and showed out on friday and saturday nights, you also passed out on the bathroom floor thursday, so. you win some you lose some. 

Cookin' Mama  - just a really kind good-vibes human. already had picked up on that from forum/chat interactions, but even just the fact that you not only made sure to fix some meat alternative on the night you cooked (which by itself i rly appreciate) but also asked me in advance about what i might like, i appreciate that a lot. loved the moment on friday night where we looked at each other at the exact same time and were like, "sooo, that other half? yeah...lets," and then were on the same rolling timeline for the rest of the evening. you're easy to talk to, easy to be around, and thx for not spoiling the love island drama spoiler for me.

Dan808  - there honestly just isn't ever a dull moment with Danny Boy, in the best way. loved witnessing the absolute contrast between Thursday Night Aggro Picnic-Table-Breaking Dan and Chilled the Fuck Out/Happy Vibes Only Dan on Friday. I've learned you have very poor balance/slip-control but you always go for gold anyway & deserve all the claps for that. from you, i have learned to be so much less afraid - and for that, i am eternally grateful. while you might not have been spiritually/mentally v present past midnight on thursday, you were technically awake pretty late all the nights, and so i award you the last of the Top Five spots.

kvothe  - of the forum posters (so, excluding Jortles GF and Kvothe GF), hands down the person who i had the biggest leap of "we haven't really had many concerted convos on the board/chat before" to "fuck this person is cool, and we are clicking immediately." i'm so pumped that you and ashley live in charlotte so now we can arrange to meet up for shows and other fun shit, and i'm just overall so glad y'all came on this trip. lots of great moments together especially on friday night but also throughout saturday. we might've lost at trivia but next time here's to hoping there's at least a couple Sad Indie Stuff and Alt Electronic categories, in which case we'd smash it.

Jortles gf (peyton) - while her earlyish bedtimes thursday and saturday nights prevented her from scoring a coveted Top Five spot, she more than made up for it on friday as the Energizer Bunny that carried us through multiple hours where people were getting sleepy/coming down around 2 or 3 am, and her energy was just fucking on point. while most of the dude bros on this trip are people i've had a good deal of internet/chatting interactions with even if i haven't met them, Peyton was obviously a total wild card for me and so i wasn't sure if we'd vibe or not, but i am so happy she was along for the ride and so go-with-the-flow about things. hope she'll be making appearances at future trips too. also, gives wonderful hugs.

@radiatebased  - jesus christ you should not be allowed to do music trivia ever again lest you never let anyone around you ever succeed again. yes another team won by good strategy, but the RAPIDITY with which you knew almost every answer and had it sent in to Teddy within 10 seconds was crazy impressive. i'm super glad you decided to do the full ~Friday Night Experience~ with the lot of us that did that thang, and that you settled into the vibes pretty soon after having the brief moment of "wait, should my phone be wiggling like this?" have certainly been there myself before haha, and you powered right on through it.

actually @fortyfive33 now  - what a boss, hanging up late and going ham even though most everyone around you was just a tadddd bit more under the influence than you lmao. you killed it at heads up film rounds which we all obviously should've expected anyway, and im glad you were part of the battles/dance party hang in the final hours of saturday night too. thanks for helping me pull out the win with LCD there

Silver Surfer  - what a gem. carrying around your lil herb bag, you were clutch for so many of us on friday night, and your chill positive energy is just so great. im sad the groups got split up on that hike, in part because i imagine you're a fantastic person to splash around in a river with, but now i'll just have to wait til the next opportunity for that I SUPPOSE. i (and im sure others) was admittedly tempted to try and rouse you from your cozy pile of pillows and blankets in the corner of the basement to hang out with us for the dancing and shit, but you looked so peaceful... i hope you were at least dancing along in your dreams.

Kvothe GF (Ashley) - when they arrived Friday afternoon, literally within 5-10 minutes I was so comfortable and cozy around this chick. just immediate good energy and friend connection, and friday night was so much fun hanging out talking a lot as mentioned in Kvothe's shoutout. thanks for the head scratches and hugs and smiles and good chats. we have lotsa similar pop music tastes, and now I've already got a couple fall-time shows in the works to band up with Kvothe and Ashley for in NC.

trantsgiving  - you doe eyed traitor. honestly, live mafia with you was an emotional roller coaster because in person you really had me second guessing everything, thinking you were guilty when not and innocent when guilty. RIP. you and matt were both great soothers during my Lost in the Forest Stress (for sure compounded by Friday Night Activities, to be clear, lol), and as sad as it was to have to defeat you, i very much enjoyed our LCD v Gorillaz late night battle to finish out the last night. you were way too early to bed friday but did make it to the end saturday night, even if you were singing a lot of incorrect lyrics.

Insane Cum Posse  - you and tristan tie for best poker faces throughout playing Live Mafia, you were really quite good & should prob consider joining a game again on here at some point wish we'd gotten more one on one chats in, but i'm sure i'll be seeing you and the trant-dawg again before tooooo long whether it is at a fest or spring time group trip. you did pull tranter out of bed on i think friday night when he'd try to go to sleep at nearly Matt O'Clock, so also kudos to that. unfortunately you're ranked below him nonetheless because tranter wassss in the killer dancing 9sum on saturday screaming and dancing to LCD whilst you were in bed.










KPO - the only real downside to this fellow is the fact that he spent so much of the night time catching up on his beauty sleep lmao, like we are not exaggerating - must've gotten 12 hrs every night. despite having to rank you dead last on the list for this reason, the good news is that you definitely did make up for it during the daytimes as you were hanging out with us, playing mafia, playing heads up, doing the grill thing (similar to w mitchell, thank you cooking me up that veg burger!), etc. you turned Suf's "My Rajneesh" at such a fucking clutch moment when we got lost in the forest with Tranter and you could see i was starting to feel anxious about it, and i appreciated that a lot. next trip, we are locking your bedroom door from the outside and hiding the key til at least 1am every night.
