Here's my justification: any emo band that should be eligible will also include punk or hardcore somewhere in their descriptions. The rule as it stands allows acts such as Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers, and Julien Baker

there are a couple bands I can think of that would be ineligible that I think should be. Maybe a spirit of the game rule for emo but I'm ok with this too.

yeah, spirit of the game exceptions are still cool. They are subject to poll if anyone objects, but like, don't take fucking Phoebe Bridgers lol
