Personally of the opinion that still no one who knows who Anderson Paak is but that at least people can be aware “Silk Sonic” is a Bruno Mars side band or project or whatever
Paak has twice the monthly listeners of Frank Ocean and Tyler The Creator
Two counterarguments: 1) I was at a bar last week with a friend and the DJ played “Am I Wrong” and she had no idea who Anderson Paak was but got real excited when he played “Slide” since Frank Ocean was on it. 2) I think Paak’s monthly listener counts are a bit inflated right now since he’s credited on Spotify as a featured artist on all the Silk Sonic stuff.
I imagine it’s made Andy bigger but do I find him to be a pop star? No. Similarly I don’t find Mark Ronson to be a pop star, who literally had Uptown Funk released under his name because Bruno just far blows him out in popularity

I use to DJ at a fancy rooftop bar in Miami and whenever someone would request me to play “despacito” I would just slow down the BPM of the track I was playing
