to my ears what keeps impressing me about goose is how they are an amalgamation of the bands that came before them. i hear a phish influence via their type 1 jamming style, a widespread panic/the band influence in the way their music "swings" and propels forward like a freight train rocking on the tracks, a dead influence in the ease and patience of some of their songwriting and a spaciousness in some of their jamming, and an umphreys or maybe bisco influence when they hit a four on the floor robot type percussion jam.
i don't know what their influences are, just saying what i'm hearing. but all those pieces parts put together creates something new. it's fresh and exciting but also relaxed. they also know how to assemble a setlist and make some really cool and unique choices for covers.
i don't even know the band members' names, but the lead singer can actually sing, and i really love the restrained use of auto tune, something that would've been unthinkable for a jamband to do not too long ago.

I keap hearing snippets of stuff that sound lifted from a phish jam, but Madhuvan off their new album is like Back on the Train 2.0. but they do have a great mix of sounds from other jam bands. They're really good at taking a basic groove and keeping it interesting (prime example is Ted tapes 2021).
Also I still can't place his voice. He reminds of a late 90's/early00's indie rock singer but I have no idea who. The auto tune is still hit or miss for me though

yeah madhuvan is like a more interesting back on the train. no offense to back on the train, i love that song, but it's kind of one note and madhuvan is more fleshed out. also madhuvan has that "swing" i was talking about that makes me think of The Band.

Goose has gotten me excited about jam music again. I'm really comfortable with phish, the dead, and panic etc, and my appetite for regular listening had waned quite a bit. Now I kinda feel like I did when I was first getting into those bands, checking out live sets and learning all the songs. A lot easier with youtube than etree torrents though.
i think this performance of "Empress of Organos" is a great example of what Goose is capable of. Groovy verse leading into a peaky emotional chorus with beautiful lyrics. unapologetically jambandy but also doesn't feel derived or overly cheesy. Then the jam portion has classic tension and release type 1, into a brief dark type 2, before finishing back up with that amazing chorus again.
and the whole thing feels so confident and relaxed, like they skipped straight to 97-98 phish, bypassing the whole frenetic speedy machine gun phish of 93-94. just an observation, don't want anyone to interpret that as a diss on 93-94 phish which i love. it's just a more mature vibe.

I am so fucking ready for this show. I got into goose after their appearance on the 2020 lineup and it was a slow progression until quarantine when I got heavy into jam bands…
I’ve had the opportunity to see them at The Pines last weekend and the two night run in Denver this weekend. Both were incredible. Don’t miss this show.

Long time poster here but for the life of me can’t remember my log in. You gave me the inspo for a new name since I’ve DEFINITELY got the love and rhythm. 😁

Also…
N1 from Denver is up for free. Was fucking sublime. Two nights of over 5k attendees and sold out night two with people hoping fences. Got to meet some of the band at the Kitchen Dwellers aftershow at Cervantes. Awesome, humble dudes who understand they’re at the tipping point in their careers. Honk honk baby.
what do y'all want to hear at bonnaroo? i'm wide open since it's my first show, but for me i'd like to hear the big crowd pleasers: Hot Tea, Flodown, Madhuvan, Empress of Organos, Slow Ready.
I was feeling kind of iffy about MMJ after looking at their setlist but then I saw Goose didn’t play Slow Ready at either of their sets at Lock’n so who knows what’s the right call anymore.

This probably increases the chances they'll play it soon imo

Honestly have a feeling none of this matter because you and postcrab will find a way to con me into seeing this band anyway.
