I am all aboard the Goose train. If anyone happened to save/rip the streams from radio city I'd love to get a link. Or may have to investigate myself but I saw last night's stream wasn't working or the wrong one on the site today
It took some tinkering and it means I’ll be listening to five hours of Goose through my crappy laptop speakers, but I’m currently recording last night’s set. Will hopefully have a Mega link for you by Tuesday and will throw it up on Plex also.

lol I ended up doing the same. Currently recording as well haha. Didn't want to let this one go and read that there was a limited window to strem it.

Is the video quality kinda ehh for you too? I’ll take what I can get but I was expecting better given their YouTube uploads.

Fuck, I just finished my screengrab of the livestream for my show and am revisiting some of the acoustic set covers and I am so fucking in on Goose. I haven't felt this way about a band I saw at bonnaroo and then dove completely in since My Morning Jacket. The Arcade Fire -> Bruce Springsteen Covers in just the acoustic set at Radio City made me happy. Everything that came after was so fucking great. Can't wait for their Newport Folk Fest set and I am on the waitlist for their after show and hope I can get through. Wow, what a show (or show considering Roo and RCMH).
When I really started to get into music, and classic rock in particular, it was Jimi Hendrix Trio and smaller bands. So when I fully realized Goose was 2 drummers (drummer and percussion), bass, guitar, and keys/guitar backup then it just made me really fall into the fandom. I'm so happy for the band and also can't wait to see them many times in the future.
Yeah I'm in too. They were one of my most anticipated sets for Roo and they only exceeded my expectations. Between the album they just dropped and the other shows I've watched from home, they are putting out some truly great shit. Impulse bought tickets to their 2 night run in DC in August yesterday 😛
it's a simple thing but it's a really great shot of Trey walking out with the crowd behind him.
edit: goddamn trey playing the solo in hungersite sounds so right.
edit: ahhhh and trey sang a verse in arcadia.
edit: wow rick and trey really play well off of each other. they are really listening to each other and picking up where the other leaves off, especially in this arcadia jam. great stuff! i need to get this whole show.

Apparently they are going to put the full 2nd night up on their YouTube page in a few days. Could have saved $15 and 5 hours on my computer but whatever . They got the money. Will post it here when it goes up
ITM I might need your video if you’re willing and able to upload it somewhere. Mine keeps crapping out and switching to other videos, I can’t even make it through the whole stream

slightly more serious response, i think it's the songwriting. while they have plenty of songs that are fun, few of them suffer from the supposed sins of jamband songwriting, meaning most of them don't sound like children's songs written by young men on drugs (except for "Time to Flee" which my friend's kid loves to sing in the car). But the songs also aren't trying to be higher art or super "progressive rock" like Umphrey's. The songs contain elements of fun groovy dancey bops but with emotional moments that can either be quiet or loud. they don't have any songs that are just "jam vehicles", by which i mean songs that are basically just a cool riff that leads into a big jam, and otherwise doesn't have any redeemable qualities. Looking at you Tweezer. Although sometimes that works (looking at you Tweezer), too many bad jambands think that's all they need, when what they really need are good pop songs. For decades the jam scene has put too much emphasis on the length or variety of jams and not enough on solid pop songwriting.
it's like goose is delivering what's so fun about jambands (long interesting jams, different setlists every night, long shows, fun covers) and delivering them in a package that's actually pleasant to open up and learn about. you don't have to see 10+ shows and listen to 50+ more show recordings before you "get it". you get it right away because it's just good music.
disclaimer, i know i talk to damn much about goose and it's fine if nobody reads this shit but to solidify my thoughts it helps me to write it down.
i'm listening to this empress of organos from 12/31/21 and there something i wanted to emphasize i missed here. i said all the stuff about goose being solid pop songwriters that live within the structure of the jamband world, but i neglected to mention that goose is not ashamed to be a jamband. organos made me think of it because of the fury of wanky guitar and keyboard solos in the buildup to the first chorus, they are shredding and raging and doing so in a spirit of joy, not a spirit of "hey look at how ridiculous this is but trust me we are super serious songwriters".
i think a lot of the big jambands or artists from jambands have at least once tried to separate themselves from the jamband label, or even tried to deny the jamband label at all, at least for a while. i remember reading an interview in Relix with one of the guys from moe sometime in the 00s where they "used the j-word" for the first time and begrudgingly labelled themselves a jamband. string cheese tried to make that album that was "darker" and "more serious" complete with dark tool-esque artwork, and the result wasn't really good and i think ultimately they broke up after that. trey anastasio, at his peak of drug-fueled self-importance kind of tried to rebrand himself as a world-music influenced type artist, like a harder paul simon, which resulted in him doing that VH1 special with dave matthews where they were drunk in africa. i think it was the charlie rose interview where trey said he couldn't imagine spending the rest of his life playing YEM over and over (fast forward to trey scrubbing toilets at the fairgrounds for his court-ordered community service where he later reported he thought to himself he would gladly play YEM five times a day for the rest of his life).
goose is avoiding the trap of the self-loathing jamband artist because they accept the label but don't necessarily take on all the accoutrements of the jamband label. as i already said they take what works for them and leave the rest, and don't feel the compulsion to do all the things a jamband is "supposed" to do. it's nice to have bands like Vampire Weekend take the jamband thing seriously and work some jamband elements into their songwriting and shows, but it's even better to have a "homegrown" jamband embrace the label and put their own twist on it. it's a refreshing step forward for the scene as a whole.

Yeah, it's funny because in the newest relix article I know they mention seeing themselves as an "Indie groove band" or something along those lines. They know they will be compared to the Dead and Phish and others.
I was just having a great time seeing 3 dudes plus 2 drummers rock out for so long and on songs I wasn't even familiar with. Can't wait to dive into their catalog more

I was playing some of the Bonnaroo set for my wife yesterday, and her comment was, "I can see why people who like My Morning Jacket are into this band." That made sense to me, but I'm not sure why. Maybe there's a certain Jim-ness to Peter Anspach's voice? I dunno.

i took my wife to see them at beale street earlier this year. i've dragged her to quite a few jam shows over the years but i was definitely excited to share goose with her and get her on my same level of excitement. I'd been talking them up and how theyre blowing up in the jam scene and getting a wider audience too.
her hypothesis by the end of the show was that goose has good songwriting and musiciansship, some dance and pop elements that appeal to newer crowds, but really they also have something that pretty much every "jam fan" likes (during the show she was calling out "widespread vibes"; "phish weirdness", etc. during portions of songs).

I just saw this. I do have a saved video but I believe the YouTube video of the show should be available now, too. Either way let me know. I was going to do some minor edits to cut down the set breaks and also a couple of areas where I was fast forwarding to get to the end of set breaks.

So happy to log back in and see rave reviews. The Bonnaroo set was my 8th Goose show and it did not disappoint. What a blast to see your favorite band, at your favorite festival, and see people walking away in some state of awe. While I can't claim to predate their first inclusion on a Bonnaroo lineup, being apart of their rise and the community surrounding it has been a blast and such a welcome inclusion in my life.
The acoustic California Magic was one of my fave songs from the Radio City shows, but it looks like they aren't putting that show out into the ether. Its okay because I would just play it over and over until I don't like it anymore lol

Pretty confident it will get released. They're awfully busy and Peter does it all so gotta give the man some time!!

I only say that because the second night was released already, but you are probably right! Maybe they were just eager to drop the second night with the guests while it was hot
