Every Summer Olympics I’m reminded that I prefer watching the Winter Olympics.
figure skating, every ski and snowboard event, CURLING, skeleton/luge, speed skating, etc. They're all such entertaining events to me, only thing at the summer games that compares is gymnastics. I guess swimming and track just don't do it for me in comparison, and take up the majority of air time. Water polo is cool though

I also love the XC skiing and especially the biathalon. It’s like summer they just shoot the gun, winter, they make your ass ski around for a while then shoot the gun.
I love curling. Living in MN, I somehow have never gone and done it but I’ve got some co-workers that have a team. The St Paul Curling Club is a couple miles away from my place.

the bar I was working at in 2018 started gambling on curling, pool ended up being like $700 and we might have made a band wait an hour to start after the final
Also, I'm very excited about the Brisbane 2032 announcement! I'm fully planning on attending some of the events, no matter where I might be living then... I'm still not over the fact that I moved away from Sydney two weeks before the 2000 Olympics.
(who, me? Still holding onto some 21-year old saltiness? Neverrrr...)
i'm going to try and update the daily tv schedule here in a way that makes sense. pulled from this site if you want to look ahead. i can't update on tuesday and wednesday with my work schedule, so i'm going to put those in a spoiler tag.
Stoked my boy, Nyjah, made the cut. For as much as I complain about the Olympics, I’ll be cheering my ass off for him.
Do you know him personally or just a fan? I still remember when an Element video came out back in the day and he was like the child prodigy in it. He and most of the Element guys came to Kona one day and I was able to talk to him.
I don't have any perspective on how street skating would appear to someone that isn't familiar with everything that goes into each trick, but just watching the highlights this morning and its hard to comprehend how good these guys are and how much things have progressed since 01 - 2010 when I was a skater kid. The nollie full cab noseslide that the japanese dude was doing would have been the ender in a videopart when I was last skating. Not something you could just casually do first try in a competition.

yeah it's fun that he's like the old dude now, glad there's still someone I know by name doing these things lol
I haven't watched skating in a very long time and I was blown away by how effortless some of the stuff was, and really forgot how ethereal some of the moves look in slo mo

A fan. I knew some of the dudes in the 90’s but that was because they played in punk rock bands more so than skateboarding. Nyjah came along after I broke my ankle and put away the skates and dove into cycling. It’s something that I still cruz around on and will always remain dear to me. I’ve been watching for 20 years now and glad it’s finally getting its time.
Big Ups to Japan for the golds though. Especially Momiji Nishiya who just paved the way for 13 year old girls to give guys the finger and do it their way.

I didn't realize Japan was so good at skateboarding but it makes sense w all the concrete jungle

Anyone I might recognize from the 90s? I started getting into everything around the time Yeah Right came out.
Men's Handball: Denmark vs. Bahrain (8pm) and Sweden vs. Portugal (10pm) both have the ability to be great games tonight. They'll be live on the NBC website. Bahrain has lost two but they've been really tight games against better teams, and they've made both of them interesting.
On the women's side, France vs. Spain is on right now and has about 10 min left in the second half. Great game.
Still in the group stages and is on every day so it's been getting bad times, but games overall have been really good.

The two that come to mind are Mario Rubalcaba and Duane Peters.
Rubalcaba I met when he drumming for a band called Clikatat Ikatowi and the opened for Unwound. He skated for Alva before focusing on playing drums. If you’ve heard Hot Snakes or Earthless or OFF!, you’ve heard him drum. Peters I met drinking before a US Bombs show. It wasn’t my scene but he was one of the coolest, most strangest dudes ever. If I ever wanted to party, he’d be the first person I’d call.
E: Never would I thought I’d say the words Clikatat Ikatowi in an Olympics thread.

She's the best ever. No one can tell her what she needs to do better than herself. She could seriously hurt herself and even die trying to do what she does if she's not 100%. So while I'm sad for her that she won't get to do what she's been training for, she's the only one.
Also she probably would have retired by now if she didn't feel like she needed to stay in the public eye to bring attention to the rampant sexual abuse that she and other girls experienced. This woman was failed by the US more than she could ever fail them and anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.
