We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Watched the women's curling final last night and the Brits ended up running away with it. The bronze game between Sweden and Switzerland was a lot better.

Anyone who's an Olympics nerd want to help me consume them in the best way? Like where do I even start. Any exciting/notable matchups or athletes that I should be focusing on? I've been very tangentially aware of the olympics for most of my life.

the lady in the gif above is Sha'Carri Richardson and she didn't get to compete last time because of a failed marijuana test, really hoping she wins gold in the 100m sprint

The biggest US stars and storylines are probably:
Simone Biles in Gymnastics. Also Suni Lee coming back and making the gymnastics team after major health issues, she’s the defending all-around gold medalist.
Katie Ledecky in swimming. I think she can break all-time medals records. She swims in the 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m. She hasn’t lost at 1500 in like 13 years and has the top 20 fastest times ever. She similarly was that dominant in the 800 but has some big rivalries with the Australian swimmers at 200 and 400.
In track, I’m most looking forward to the Women’s 400M hurdles. It will be a race for the ages. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA) vs. Femke Bol (Netherlands). SML has lowered the world record by nearly 2 seconds over the last 4 years and its approaching 50.00 which would be unheard of. Current record is 50.65, which she set in a blowout last month at the Olympic Trials. They haven’t raced each other since the the 2022 World Championships when SML set the world record at 50.68 and Bol came in second at 52.27. Bol just set the 3rd fastest time ever (SML has top 2) at 50.95 last month too.
cool story regarding the paralympics. 2 people from the cast of survivor 43 officially made team usa. ryan only starting training for the olympics after meeting noelle on survivor and learning that it was an option for him.

Not related to Paris, but it looks like the LA Olympics are going to have all the equestrian events a few miles from my house (in Temecula) so I'm planning to attend in person. Not that I'm into the equestrian events all that much but it'll still be cool.
Our work TV has on the USA network coverage and they are showing some truly obscure stuff which gives plenty of fun ways to get emotionally invested. Hungary vs France women’s handball? Well someone on the Hungarian team kept looking pissed so I’m going to say Hungary is getting robbed. Don’t let France get away with this travesty just because they’re hosting!!
Salt Lake City has been awarded the 2034 winter games.
Don’t they have to lobby for stopping the doping investigation though? It was part of the deal to get it back there.
Also, Canada just fired their Women’s Soccer HC for flying a drone over another countries practice lol
”lobby”
They awarded both 2030 (French Alps) and 2034 (Salt Lake City). Those were the only 2 locations that even bid for the 2 spots. I guess they could threaten to pull it and run back to some brown hill in China.

I totally agree but it just makes another tick in my column for hating the IOC. It’s so scared of someone saying “let’s look at this” because they feel everyone should just accept what they put out there.
Will anything happen to SLC if they don’t? Probably not. The IOC is obviously not gonna put billions of dollars on the line just to take it elsewhere. It’s just bullshit they’re adding that as a stipulation.
