first time any tennis player has ever carried and first time a male basketball player has ever carried (which is crazy considering we've won gold in all but 4 since 1936). weird statement.

I'm only kinda watching (busy) but are they doing an Assassin's Creed thing or is the torch bearer's outfit referencing something else? It would make sense because the AC franchise is arguably France's biggest cultural export of the 21st century.

Trying to make us remember the worst game of the series was set in Paris?
Very different opening ceremonies! It's weird without using a stadium, but I like how it's merged the parade, torch bearer, and ceremony all into one.
Same. Setting it along the river seine was such a smart and cool idea. The countries coming through on boats is so unique and only something a city like this could do. I’m really digging it. Much more entertaining than watching everything happening in a stadium.

Men's beach volleyball team (the one without Chase Budinger) lost to Cuba this morning. Inauspicious start at maybe the best venue of the Games (surfing in Tahiti also in the convo).
Today I found out that canoeing is an Olympic sport. Who knew 🤷🏽♀️
These events are some of my favorites. When the games were in Atlanta, they did the kayaking and canoeing on the Ocoee river outside of Chattanooga. My friend older brother was a fart guide so we grew up going there and it was so cool to see the Olympics in a river that I had been in a bunch. I don't know where they're doing it for Paris, but it's a great way to get surrounding areas some burn and bucks. Love it.
Every Summer Olympics I’m reminded that I prefer watching the Winter Olympics.
Funny. I was just realizing how much I prefer summer to winter today. To each their own, but there's just so much more action and drama in the summer games.

Exciting 4x100 relays, great touch by Simone to grab Silver, great swims from Giuliano and Armstrong (and of course Dressel) to get the gold. Dressel 8 golds in 8 Olympic events is pretty incredible.

Also, if you have Peacock and aren't watching Gold Zone, you should try it immediately. Scott Hanson hired to run the Olympics version of Red Zone and it's fantastic.

I just wish they would cover the events earlier. If seems like they switch to something and only show the last play or last minute or 2. Kinda ruins the excitement for me.

Oh god, where the fuck was the ad about this? Thats a HUGE selling point they have.

Thats the whole point. Same concept at Nfl red zone except its just for medal rounds/games etc.

I get the concept and think it's cool, I just would prefer a little bit more lead up. Sometimes they show the right amount though. Like Judo yesterday they showed the last 4 minutes of the medal rounds and that was just enough judo for me. But then they went to like the last 30 seconds of rugby 7 and it took me most of the time just figuring out which team was which (not really, but almost).
Right now it's 2 fencing matches in multiview and I don't know enough about fencing to watch both without any commentary.

And then fencing ended with USA and Italy both showing a score of 14, and them staring at the referee for a minute before the USA player celebrated and the Italy player dropped to her knees screaming no. What happened there? Then the gold zone people came in and said "there's a lot of emotion in fencing and we're learing just like you". No, you're supposed to be helping me figure out what just happened!
