I've been looking for a clear backpack, and the ones I've liked have all had measurements of 17". How likely am I to get turned away for having a 17" backpack as opposed to the 12" listed on the FAQ's? As long as it's clear will I be alright? Also, do the fanny packs have to be clear?
My camelbak doubles as a full-size backpack, though I'm thinking that after six Roos it might be time to move on. It's starting to get kinda ragged. Idk if I want one the same size though; on the one hand a smaller bladder and pack would be less cumbersome and better for my back, but on the other hand being hydrated is pretty awesome. In the evening I just do a fanny pack and hold onto a water bottle.
I'm trying to just go in with a simple drawstring bag that has no pockets, and my camera bag which I would prefer to have in my locker Friday night on.

I don't think drawstring bags are allowed anymore though

You are looking me staring at the dumbest new rule and seeing if it falls apart under scrutiny.

The straps from drawstring bags tear my shoulders up over the course of a fest.

I'm floating real dangerous, my drawstring top has .... shoulder straps :: SHOCKED SCREAMS FROM SECURITY::

well, maybe if you weren't going into Centeroo naked you wouldn't have that problem.
Real talk this is a bag I got for free that is perfect for a fest. If they make me throw it away and take in all my stuff by hand, I will laugh at them. and be perfectly fine with my locker.
My clear backpack technically violated the Lollapalooza guidelines, but I made sure to pack it light, and have it open and ready to be checked at the gate. No issues.

I think being ready - everything out, water bottle/bladder empty, bag unzipped, etc - is they key to most borderline security issues. If you're making life easier for them then they're generally gonna assume that you're not going to be causing problems.

Exactly this. I've brought in a bag that didn't necessarily abide by the guidelines, but I made sure to have all the pockets unzipped and open so they could look through it easily. Never had a problem.
Personally I rock the camelbak + fanny pack combo and I've never had an issue. Beats lugging around a clear backpack all day.
But if you want to go the backpack route, it probs depends on who's checking your bag. I've definitely seen them break out the ruler before.
Ok so I have a camelbak that I use at most festivals, but the FAQ's are so confusing/contradictory when it comes to bags. My camelbak is also a backpack so more pockets, but it's not huge by any means. This is what I would be bringing. It's not huge, but still worried they'll see it more like a backpack and send me away...

It’s really hard to tell what security will do. I bought my backpack on amazon for like $16. You might want to bring a backup in case.
So patagucci makes a totebag that folds into itself like a rain jacket that also has backpack straps, fingers crossed they let me carry that sucker in as a tote. Worst case scenario pretend its a rain jacket?
