What kind of shoes you all wearing? Should I wear like trail running shoes or are my normal road running shoes good? I'm assuming it will mostly be on the gravel paths that go through the campsites.
Anybody know if the past years results are posted anywhere?
I'm not even sure if they keep a clock. It's been a few years for me, though.
The first year of the run, there were three college kids who were quite fast. Like too fast. They all finished very close to one another. The guy who finished first got passes for the next year. The guy a few seconds behind got something like a coupon for the merch tent. Winning has it's benefits. The guy 30 minutes behind them dressed as Gumby also got passes.

Last year the prizes were not that great. My DJ for The PONDO Army, who actually performed WHILE running the race, got best costume but won very little. We both thought he'd get tickets for this year. It was far from that.
It could be because last year's whole thing was downsized but I wouldn't get my hopes up on anything great as prizes this year for the race.

Trail runners definitely not a necessity. A lot of the campground roads are paved now. Almost the entire thing was on the paved portion of the roads last year iirc.
It's insane to me that someone would be able to run a marathon in that heat, in the middle of a festival.
Mad respect for the superhumans who can do that
A marathon? No way, not me. But 5k is a whole nother ballgame, and anyone with some running experience or a decent level of physical fitness can do that, at their own right pace. 3.1 miles is entirely doable and doesn't require special training like 26.2 miles does. And there's a reason other than the music lineup that this is done in the morning, of course.

I have what is called exercise-induced asthma (such a lame name). Wasn't diagnosed until a teen. Used to always place last in the mile run in elementary school, and couldn't breathe afterward. Played tennis from 10-14 and would always be winning up until mid-way second set, then go downhill from there.
That said, I would still like to at least try getting into running. My dad was the second-fasted runner in Virginia in high school, so I know the ability has to be somewhere in my DNA.

Agreed! I plan to sign up and just not wear my newest/favorite pair of typical trainers in event of dust/mud. Normal road shoes are fine, most important is that they’re broken in.

I have a friend who has this and uses an inhaler to combat symptoms! Works pretty damn well for her.

When they first started this I thought it was the dumbest thing I could think of for events at Roo. Now that I run regularly because I am old and don't want to be super fat and am paying for a power RV site and will have unlimited A/C, presumably close the start and finish, I am signed up for this damn run. I really hope I can will myself to actually show up and do it that morning.

Same here. The main part will be getting there. I’m not planning to PB this 5K and will definitely take it easy if I didn’t get as much sleep as needed. I personally can’t sleep in past 7:30 due to the heat at Roo anyway so I’ll be up no matter what.

You people are fucking sick, in the best way possible. I hate cardio, doing a run at Roo on top of everything else happening? Makes me tired just thinking about it but good on ya!
I signed up before the schedule came out, figuring that I’d have the option to do it if I wanted to, and if I didn’t, then I could skip it and I’ll have donated $20 to charity. Looking at how jam-packed my schedule is, I’m gonna go ahead and say there’s no chance I’ll do the run, especially if I’m trying to make it to STS9 sunrise. And since I signed up before the tank top deadline, there’ll be one extra shirt for someone who signed up late.
