basically I'm just going by "if all these bands are playing at the same time at a festival who would i go see" and no question i'd go see STS9 instead of Umphrey's

honestly i hadn't really spent much time with DeadCo before this tour, but I've been listening to a bunch and it's great. i saw them this weekend and it was easily the best Dead-related show I've ever seen

I'm pretty excited to see them coming up, Bob and the drummers seem like they could go at any given notice and any chance to see them together should be a shot worth taking. the roo 16 set was very good for me and hoping to get some of those vibes again
Panic and umphreys both suffer from guitar wankery sometimes. Panic write better (or cover vic chesnutt) songs. Crowds at panic shows definitely had more of a frat boy/hillbilly hippie element but umphreys crowds are just a bunch of nerdy dudes and spun out teenagers.
DeadCo first few tours were really hit or miss and they seemed to play everything really slowly. I thought the JRAD shows were definitely a more fun and exciting than the DeadCo I saw in '16-'18, and I kind of lost interest, but I've been listening to some of the shows from this tour and it seems like John is able to have more influence.

i have a lot of respect for UM, i've seen them a bunch and have always found the shows enjoyable and exciting. i don't think "Mantis" gets enough credit as a pretty darn good contemporary-ish progressive rock record. i like that UM has taken some swings and done some cool fan centered things during their career like UM Bowl, roo LN LGs etc. they are definitely a jamband but add elements of metal and prog that you don't see much in other jambands.
the only other band i could argue should go this round is STS9. kinda conflicted honestly but since others are trending towards UM they get my vote this round.
