Is there a source for this besides whoever this person is?
Travis/LN is trying some legal sleight of hand and fans will walk away from potential claims.
2 minute local cable news piece talking about the legality of the waiver claims.
I clicked through and I gotta say I’m *shocked* that a video you posted ended up being total bullshit. Video explicitly says negligence and gross negligence aren’t covered and no changes in terms or conditions have happened.
Just catching up here. Some good content but I’m really surprised to see so many posts blaming the crowd. There is a long list of people to blame before going after those in attendance. People are going to people. It’s on the organizers to create a safe environment where they can’t be put in that position in the first place.
Kind of a tough watch, but I’d recommend checking out the 30 for 30 “Hillsborough”. It gives some pretty good insight into how these types of things can happen.
I think I’ve landed on 60% organizers, 30% Travis, 10% the crowd.
And when I say the crowd, I’m talking the ones who rushed the gates, rushed the crowd, climbed on the ambulances, etc. not everyone in the crowd. Even in saying that, Travis’ whole brand is about raging. So even the ones doing that shit are doing it because they’re being encouraged. But still, it takes very little effort to not be a total POS, so these people doing that should know better.
Ultimately the festival knew there was a problem 40 minutes prior to the show ending when they called emergency services for a mass casualty event. Whoever had the power to stop the show is who is to blame. Even if Travis refused to stop, SOMEONE beyond him has the power to pull the cord. Whoever that person is, really is the one responsible.
I saw a video of the crowd where you could see security pulling people out. People were reaching out to him screaming for help and this poor security guard look terrified and overwhelmed. The screams in the video were devastating and I can’t imagine what that security guard must be feeling. He looked desperate to help, but he was all alone. My heart goes out to everyone involved, bc it’s just a tragedy for everyone.
For those interested, one of my favorite music podcasts Popcast did an episode on the Astroworld tragedy. It mostly focuses on the rage culture within hip-hop today and how it got there, from Beastie Boys to OFWGKTA to XXXTentacion and now Travis.
linked from a paywalled usa today article. Written log from the firefighters on site last friday showing what had been going on early morning friday til the night ended.
At least 10 times throughout the day, fire officials noted people attempting to sneak in or push past security to enter festival grounds. The log read: "participants have broken gate 13 in green lot" at 12:17 p.m., and, four hours later, approximately "150 [people] rushing gate at Kirby and Westridge," streets bordering the festival.
By late afternoon, festival organizers estimated up to 5,000 additional people had snuck into the event, according to the log.
Just before 5 p.m., four hours before Scott emerged on the main stage, fire officials overhead Houston Police officers reporting a worrisome development at a smaller, secondary stage -- and a harbinger of things to come.
By 8:52 p.m., just before Scott came out for his show, the company hired to provide medical response, New York-based ParaDocs Worldwide, had already treated 262 concertgoers, the log showed.

I've always believed gate-crashing is one of the greatest security risks at any festival. I'm stunned how every year we get video of Lollapalooza gate crashers and it's passed off as "Eh, it's a tradition, rite of passage for these kids". It should be an excuse to evacuate the entire festival and require re-entry. Excess capacity of bodies is just one factor of it. These kids are bypassing security, meaning they could have weapons, and it's honestly really fortunate we haven't had someone bring an AR-15 or an explosive in this way. This might be an unpopular opinion, but it's also why I'm in favor of "scanning out" with your wristband at the end of the day in order to catch and arrest these criminals, because it truly is criminal activity. (Also, I work hard for the money for festival passes, so fuck you.)

Absolutely 100% agree, my friend just made that point re: possibility of bringing weapons last night and i never even considered that fact. it could have gone so much worse

I think if it was possible that gate crashers got their asses pepper sprayed they might think differently about trying it. And who the hell is taking bolt cutters to get through the fence? Couldve been the people that wanted to raid the merch stand? Or even if somebody brought in actual laced drugs and were selling pills to unsuspecting people which would add another layer to this.

Reminds me of the time some guy sniped hundreds of people in Vegas and caused panic in the festival aswell. Other context, but y'know..
You're right, I can't remember seeing a rush. There was also a large pit formed in front of the stage for the more "aggressive" acts which probably acted like a kind of moat.
also, as we all know, concertgoers in the 90s were just naturally better and more respectful of others than these awful millenials and zoomers

You have a point. Why do the festivals not require us to scan out? It would be an inexpensive way to catch gate crashers.
I also enjoy the satisfying "beep" the machine makes. It's a win-win.

Crowd control, you want people out of the venue as fast as you can so you can tuck things in and go to bed.

I definitely find the whole security state rationale of “people could be bringing in guns” kinda problematic, but the bigger issue is scanning people out would be a complete logistical nightmare. At a fest like Lolla, attendees arrive over the course of 5-6 hours, and wait 30-45 minutes to get it. Making 100+ thousand people tag out on the way home would take hours and would piss off a lot of unruly drunks. And for what? If someone was sneaking in to kill people it’s not like they’d casually wait around to check out on the way home.

I remember Coachella made everyone scan out in 2011 because they had thousands sneak in during 2010, though there were also other heightened security measures that year (like multiple checkpoints) that were relaxed in later years. The scan-out didn't take long, as the reason lines are so long for entry is because of security and checking bags, not the wristband scan. Granted, the scan-out didn't seem to be that closely monitored either. You're definitely right that any shady activity would happen while the festival is actually going on; I just hate the thought of people getting away with a free ride while I ate frozen TV dinners for a week to afford a ticket.

Considering how many people got in during 2010 we were lucky nothing bad happened. And the extra scan checkpoint was put back into place if you werent camping in 2018. There were those sneak in videos and such which were always a thing and this one dude who made a vid did not expect that scan point after getting into the parking lot. So he was pretending to dick around and then his video cuts to him getting some wristbands for cheap and got in.
