Haven't been back to NC in a number of years. Is Kings still the best venue? Is the sound at the Ritz still absolute trash? Is Cat's Cradle presents still torturing people by forcing them to drive out to Saxapahaw?

The long haul to Haw River Ballroom is still alive and well. Haven’t been to the Ritz in forever but we are snagging tickets for Beach House so I can update in like 5 months lol

Kings is great for certain shows, but I definitely wouldn't call it the best venue...
Haven't been to the Ritz in a while but last time I was there, yes.
And Haw River Ballroom is a gorgeous venue that is well worth the drive for a good show. I saw Pinegrove out there a couple weeks back, and it was beautiful.

I've got awhile to think about it but I've been eyeing that Parcels show. Also eyeing the Mary Lattimore show at Grey Eagle the day before Thanksgiving.
Has anyone seen a show at the arena in Asheville? Catch me at Mastodon/Opeth there next Tuesday.
Fun Fact: I met PD years ago and I’m afraid I ruined it for all y’all.
Also, 100% in for Three Lobed. Bought tickets and booked a hotel. I’ve never been to Durham and I’m wicked scared.
Hold up. YOUVE NEVER BEEN TO DURHAM?
Wtf, all these years you’ve come down for hopscotch, you’ve never once ventured a single town over to Durham?!
@rdk picked me up from the Megabus there and I’ve flown in and out of RDU a lot but never been to the city properly. I booked a swanky hotel in city center and now have to figure out the bus system/walking thing. Gonna be strange hoofing it with beer but it won’t be the first time.

The city bus transportation system can be slow but it exists.

Also Ubers around downtown are cheap.
Which hotel? 21C?
Unscripted Durham.
Uber is my backup. The Coffeehouse is almost in walking distance but the Duke Performances are not. Plus parking is ew. I’ll be doing that from there for sure.

Oh shit, Unscripted?
We will be doing rooftop pool pregame on Thursday. Pencil me in

I’ve been there a good bit. Will be there for Avett Brothers in like 8 days. Couldn’t fit Mastodon in my crazy concert schedule. I wish I could because I’ve never seen Opeth.

Is the venue alright? I know arenas are pretty eh
Full disclosure: It’s been almost 10 years or so since I’ve been there.
I liked it. I don’t know how much it’s changed but I’ve seen everyone fro Massive Attack to M83 to Tim Hecker to Amon Tobin there and always had a nice time. It’s big but not engulfing big. The sound was top notch, too (which is something I fear at every big space like that).

Awesome, the sound was really what I was worried about. Hopefully it’s still the same.

It’s fine. Nothing special about but nothing really great about it either.
I’ve been going to 1-2 shows a week lately. Love Cats Cradle but didn’t know it was cash only first time I went, that was a bummer. Local 506 is a fantastic small bar venue, Sheer Mag was amazing there. I didn’t find the sound at The Ritz bad but I also have terrible hearing to begin with. Motorco Music Hall is great also. Haven’t been to the Lincoln yet but seeing Sparks there in March so pumped about that.
Will be at either Dinosaur Jr or Beach Bunny on Monday night if anyone wants to say hi

This thread is much needed. Seeing J Roddy Walston tonight at The Grey Eagle. Will likely go to Willie Watson next Saturday and Bully in December - both at the Grey Eagle.
Wouldn’t mind to see Shaky Graves next week at the Orange Peel but already sold out and Monday shows are a tough in general.
My NC Show Schedule for 2022 (bolded means already have the tickie, unbolded if I don't but am planning to go): The Weather Station - Feb 01 (The ArtsCenter in Carrboro) DUA LIPA - Feb 16 (Spectrum Center in Charlotte) Fenne Lily - Feb 21 (Motorco) Samia - Feb 23 (Cat's Cradle) Avail - Feb 25 (Cat's Cradle) Black Midi - April 6 (Haw River Ballroom which is a bit of a hike out into the boonies but still worth it for a good show IMO) CHARLI - April 15 (Orange Peel in Asheville) Destroyer - May 2 (Cat's Cradle) Snail Mail - May 7 (Cat's Cradle)...unless I am out of town doing something for my bday that weekend
Will probably add an Asheville show or two in addition to Charli this spring.
And then there are some Ritz shows I'm eyeing but once fees are included, they're so pricey (e.g. Brockhampton ticket listed as $49, is actually almost $70 wtfff)... so I'm not sure which ones I'll actually go to, but there's Brockhampton, Beach House, Car Seat Headrest, Purity Ring, and Lane 8 (no shame, v fun live show) all in the first half of 2022
