and this. yes it was virtual, but still a festival. if the letter of the law in the OP allows Outkast to play Shaky Knees in 2022, it applies here as well.
There's a difference between Outkast playing festivals in front of living, breathing human beings and then fucking off, and a virtual festival.
I had my problems with the Outkast pick because I think they're functionally retired, but I have even more problems with this because you're trying to stretch the definition of a festival to an absurd degree.
Where have you been the past 1,5 years? There have been dozens of online festivals and events because of covid and people having to stay at home.

I still wouldn't count them for this game. If Pinkpantheress decided to play two festivals in Minecraft, I think she'd still be ineligible. Not the spirit of the game. We're not billing virtual festivals, we're billing physical ones. Y'know, with actual crowds and shit.
Fiona Apple had plenty of opportunities to play festivals prior to covid. She didn't take any of them, making her ineligible.

and it's 1.5, thank you. /s
The festivals rule only exists to proove that a certain act is active or not, Pinkpantheress' career isn't even long enough (same with Olivia Rodrigo btw) that they had already enough opportunities to play for a live crowd. So no, I disagree. Also what, "plenty"? How many festivals have there even been the past months, most even had a ton of 2020 acts on them making it harder for new acts (in the sense of having released an album during the pandemic) to pop in. It's like you're saying she had 30 offers this summer and must've taken all of em, the industry doesn't work like that lol.

i get it, but its really the same exact situation rule wise.
a technicality of the OP wording is the only reason Outkast was allowed. literally all of us know that they are retired, and have been for a while. but it was never announced formally, like the rules say, so the majority decided it should be allowed. even though their festivals are on the very edge of the cutoff window, which I didn't love, but am fine with.
and just because it is virtual, doesn't mean it's not playing to living breathing human beings. idk about you, but that first summer without live music, i actually found a lot of solace in some of these virtual events. my friends put on a few with some local bands and DJ's and while not the same experience we're used to, it felt fucking great to be partying and enjoying performed music simultaneously with others. it's still a live performance and just because that is all we had for a year, i dont think it should be discounted as "not being a real show". and if its a giant group of shows, with billing and scheduling, what the fuck is preventing it from being a festival?
its really the same exact situation as outkast. rules say the act must have played 2 festivals in the stated period, and she has played 2 festivals.
im drunk so probably not articulating this as well as i could, but i am excited to get into the debate with y'all tmrw! go birds.
The New Yorker Festival was always an in-person festival and they only pivoted to virtual for the pandemic for one year. It’s not like it’s a one-off virtual event. She was probably even booked before the pandemic.

stlallison and I were texting about who to pick next and she said we should pick a currently popular rapper who's never played Coachella before and fortunately I had done enough research to know the one answer that satisfied all of those criteria lol
