yeah bc this price tag is ridiculous. it is a great lineup, but for just two days and the consideration of how expensive other pieces of the equation are (travel, lodging in LA, food in LA, etc.)...
I think the bigger problem is that the LA/SoCal fest market is WAY oversaturated. For fests in at least a somewhat similar target audience, you have Coachella, Just Like Heaven, Cruel World, Primavera LA, and Desert Daze all this year. That's way too much, no way there wasn't going to be some casualties. I know I cut JLH because of this fest after going to that one in 2019 and having a fun time
4 of those 6 fests are Goldenvoice competing with themselves too
But the thing is the day fests that are GV are essentially just a deconstructed Coachella. Cause youve seen a lot of those acts on the lineup before. Now there isnt room for it, so going niche has paid off. If there had never been covid the all the price points wouldve been different anyway. Lots of that stuff would easily be $50 cheaper and been seen as a bit more attractive. People are truly having to choose between live music or gas in their car to go to work. All the ticket bs this last year has opened peoples eyes to just waiting for prices to drop via resale and it puts promoters in a panic cause advance sales dont look strong.
as someone who is spending my first significant amount of time in my life in SoCal the last two weeks, if I had the weekend free I would 100% come to this festival, LA is an absolute joy

That's the thing, people are making better choices with their money. That's 6 music festivals all sharing the same demo in the span of 6 months. All costing a minimum pass of $400. That's overkill. On top of that, those same acts tour California all the time. If this inflation hike is here to stay, festivals are in for a world of hurt next year.

There's certainly room for 1-2 of those Coachella off-shots but we're at an overkill point. If they just stuck to one strong indie fest and one 80's fest they probably would have both sold fine. Even just adding the third is rough, specially when there's other competition
Also to the last point on waiting for prices to drop, the dynamic pricing thing that promoters are starting to do is definitely going to exacerbate that problem of more and more people waiting for resale over buying advance and it's going to be funny to see

Some fests are selling so poorly that there is no resale market though. Take Pitchfork for example. Only 25 tickets are even on Stubhub.
Its funny that I'm essentially the target demo for all these fests (early 30s with disposable income living in SoCal obsessed with live music and a member of a goddamn Bonnaroo message board) and even I am so paralyzed by options and starting at massive prices that I am only going to go to one of JLH, Cruel World, TANP, Primavera, Desert Daze, etc.
If the people on this board aren't committing to more than one of these, then its gonna be a blood bath for at least 1-2 of them

Haha same, except older...
I'm not planning on buying anything until like the week of.
Relistened to my first two LCD shows: Bonnaroo 2010 & MSG today. Got me so fucking excited to be seeing this band again. Let them kill Bonnaroo, Coachella, NFTs, This Aint No Picnic…whatever! As long as they rip through a decent hour and a half set while I’m high as fuck on an edible, I’ll be thrilled.

If you are considering going and believe in women's bodily autonomy, just a reminder that AEG which owns Goldenvoice donated a sh*t ton of money to anti abortion group just days after Roe v Wade was overturned. Just my 2 cents for today.

AEG or the Anschutz Corporation? Phil has always been a notorious conservative, this isn’t new. I’m assuming you’re referring to the RS coverage?
In a statement to Rolling Stone, AEG responded as follows: “AEG, AEG Presents, Goldenvoice and its other subsidiaries, as one company, stands firmly in support of a woman’s right to choose. As owner and producer of many of the most inclusive festivals and venues on the planet, we have taken strides to make our position on this clear.
On June 28, in the wake of the troubling overturning of Roe v. Wade and with the full support of The Anschutz Corporation, we informed all our employees that we will be covering travel and lodging expenses for women who need to leave their home state for reproductive health services including abortion. We remain, as ever, committed to choice, freedom, and access to full reproductive health options for women.”
Does it suck they donated? Sure but it’s not like it wasn’t expected.

im one of the more hardline leftists on the board but when it comes to this argument, it sucks but unfortunately theres no way to avoid giving money to that scum if you go to any livenation or aeg shows. youd have to specifically only go to shows that dont use either of those ticketing agents to not have any money going to a greedy ceo that pipes money into republicans. even then i havent really looked anything up about the eventbrite or DICE ceos. theres only so much we can do to oppose these fuckers when they own so many companies

The yearly "aeg does bad shit with our ticket money" post finally got here.
When will they announce their side shows (if any) now that PSLA announced theirs?
My thought is no but I’d love to be wrong. They usually beat PSLA by a few days announcing things and this time we got nothing.
As of tomorrow, we’re 4 weeks out.
I mostly agree. If we don’t here anything by the end of this week, there probably won’t be any.
They also haven’t announced the set times yet (just like they did for JLH to boost sales), so I’m assuming maybe it’s not doing that bad in terms of ticket sales.

Likely low because any key act thats a surefire sellout would give less of a reason to go. Like if Wet Leg did a show it would have to be like at the roxy and get announced 2 days before.

I’m expecting smaller band shows if any, tbh. The Fonda’s schedule seems to be available the week before.

I think set times will actually hurt sales for this, especially given the market they're aiming at
You know what would be interesting is if did go in the direction of a smaller setup that they have 2 rotating stages so you dont have to go relatively far to see another band. Might be one of the only ways to not have to use 5 stages of varying size and some artists dont suffer with like 50 people watching them cause you gotta walk across the bridge to see them. If they truly were trying to keep this just in the area of JLH and Cruel World then all you could do is that along with that 3rd stage CW had and put Despacio where the club thing was.

I'd fully support this. plus it would make day parking a bit easier since they wouldn't have to close the golf course. I guess it depends on how many tickets they sold.
