Not a huge fan of 2022 rhcp but it's a solid substitute for the foos for most fans.
Looking at other Foo Fighters 2022 festivals that left a headliner gap: NIN picked up Rockville and Boston Calling. I think Placebo got added for Nova Rock in Europe where they have done arenas. Osheaga is still phishing for a headliner and have a blurred out name on the poster. Beale St. just took their FF name off. Nimes and RIR Lisbon still have gaps. I think I-Days Milan simply cancelled that day.
I’m guessing figuring replacements. I need to do some more digging on the nighttime shit. Lettuce Rage Fest will go past 3am first weekend and the Saturday Disco Biscuits second weekend will likely too. So I’ve got a bunch of open nights and overnights if I have the energy. I’ll look harder in a week or two but there have been some pretty outrageous collaborations added. Plus Mononeon is doing a Music Box Village show with Mike Dillon. But there are 4 Dinner Party sets Fri/Sat second weekend at One Eyed Jacks 10pm and 2am featuring Terrence Martin, Kamasi Washington and Robert Glasper. I don’t know if shit gets much better than that. I’ll post some more on nights in the next week or so as things get finalized.
Also I agree with Postjack on RHCP. Last time they played Jazz Fest they finished the show with about 15-20 minutes of jamming with George Porter Jr. and Ivan Neville. Peppers will always do their best shows here because they know their roots and heroes. But unless the set list is off the hook, I’m probably not that interested in seeing them yet again. I checked some recent shows and they covered Black Flag’s Nervous Breakdown (super old when Keith Morris of Circle Jerks was lead singer and going by Johnny Bob Goldstein), so that is somewhat encouraging. But until I know what else they’re playing, I’m non-committal.
NOLA got the best deal in the Foo headliner replacement sweepstakes
That's an opinion for sure, just definitely not mine. I know that JazzFest would never, but the BEST replacement is that NIN replacement for FF. That is an upgrade.

I am pretty sure that we are going to the Les Claypool Bastard Jazz at the Orpheum on April 28 and the Toro y Moi show at the Republic on May 10th. I have H.E.R on April 24th also. Let me know if you hitting up any of those. The H.E.R. show I am going with my girl Alice, not thejeremy but the rest are with him. Oh, and I am definitely interesting that OEJ show with Kamasi Washington.
Yeah, I personally am not a RHCP fan. They are ok, I think Jane's Addiction is better (in my head they are still equivalent still, even if they aren't anymore). I am sure the show will be fun and good for a Peppers show, especially with John Frusciante back, but meh.

I more of a NIN fan, but their may shows will have shorthand production for the replacement fests. RHCP NOLA is one of the first full reunion shows. RHCP is moving way more tix than NIN right now, right or wrong. 3 reasons why RHCP get the edge, even if I'd rather see NIN on a mid tour arena show vs. RHCP mid tour arena show.
Hey Jazzy peoples! First time going to Jazz Fest this year (doing weekend 1) and I am taking the shuttle from the Wisner Lot. Where does that pick you up to return you to your car? Having trouble deciding whether to end my days at the main stage or the second stage and figured I'd go to whichever is closer to the shuttle location. TIA!

Wish I could help you but I’m not sure where the shuttles board since I always walk. There is a main exit on the Esplanade Ave. side. There’s another one in the back by the stables. And then there is another one close to the second stage (Gentilly Blvd. side). If they had it on a map, I could tell you. Either way you’re taking about a block or block and a half difference in the walk which is along the horse track. So it really won’t matter that much.

Full agree. Winter Circle put out an email that both Father John Misty and Mac DeMarco have shows coming later in the year. Mac was pretty great at Bonnaroo so I’ll consider that. Claypool’s Bastard Jazz is a trip. It’s him, Stanton Moore on drums, Skerik on sax and Mike Dillon on any manner of percussion. They have some general shit they work off of, but it mostly goes in improvised directions. I had a blast when I saw it, but it was pretty abstract.
Sucks Rat, but we'll see you again in the future. ------------------------------------
There are some pretty cool new night shows that got announced recently. I'll likely go to the Maison 2nd Friday for Star Kitchen and Honeypot. Star Kitchen is one of Brownie from Disco Biscuits' side projects and includes Danny Mayer, Rob Marscher, Marlon Lewis and special guests Shira Elias and "The Horn Section" both formerly of Turkuaz. Honeypot is one of Aron Magner (keys) of TDB's side projects and includes bassist George Gekas of Revivalists, Tim Palmieri on guitar (Lotus, formerly of Kung Fu) and Alvin Ford Jr. who is the drummer for Pretty Lights Live, Dumpstaphunk, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Khris Royal & Dark Matter, etc. That's going to be good.
Also Anderson .Paak will be teaming up with Grammy-winning trumpeter Maurice "Mobetta" Brown (Tedeski Trucks Band+) 1st Sunday at Toulouse Theater (old One Eyed Jacks) for Maurice "Mobetta" Brown featuring Anderson .Paak & Friends also with Mononeon and Marcus Machado.
It's really cool to see .Paak work on some of the jazz side again, and he'll hopefully become a permanent fixture here during Jazz Fest. He's great with the hiphop and pop stuff he does, but below the surface, he's a pretty phenomenal drummer.
I have to still finalize my schedule and the days I'm going to the fest itself.
We walked next door over to Wrong Iron to grab a drink. Jam In the Van was there which was pretty cool. They had a band from Austin on with Rainbow in the title but I didn’t know them. Lettuce is playing Sunday at 5, and I’ll probably go to that instead of seeing Red Hots even though that will mean I’ll see Lettuce 3x during Jazz Fest and then at Bonnaroo. Fuck some shit. We will see Galactic > The Who tomorrow and Lettuce late night. Yo thepeppeers if y’all are in town Sunday before heading back to NC, it’ll probably be worth dropping by. Ultra dank in effect.
The Who was great yesterday. Got about 4 Quadrophenia songs which was fun for me since I didn’t look at what they were doing on this tour. I love the movie, so anytime I can jam on either Quadrophenia (album/soundtrack) I’m down. We caught most of Galactic before that. The cover of Led Zeppelin’s Nobody’s Fault off Presence was a treat. We went to Lettuce late night but it ended kind of early. They did a couple world premiers. My daughter told me we should have gone over to Fillmore after because that Dumpstaphunk show went super late. She ran into GPJ, the director of Black Swan, Red Hot Chili Peppers and a bunch of other stars who were out for that one. She also ran into Les Claypool at her other job.
We didn’t eat because we were at my cousins crawfish boil before and after the festival so I got nothing to report on food.
Gonna chill at home today and watch Big Something and Thievery Corporation on the Sweetwater 420 Stream andwalk over to watch Lettuce play Jam in the Van at 5. Depending how tired I am, I might then walk down to jazz fest and listen to the last hour of RHCP from outside.
Yeah so veg day walked in the backyard to see lettuce and pimps of joytime playing on that bus. Walked a mile to Jazz Fest in time to catch Under the Bridge and By the Way which were both great versions. Heard some negative reports of too much guitar but from Motherfuckers who should know better.but don’t. Then I put on some clips and they busted out Nobody Weird Like Me. And I’m like fuck. Mothers Milk is one of the all time most underrated Chili Peppers albums and is the best [tm]. But not everybody knows that shit. I’m interested to see if they can throw me another bone before I got there. Watching.
Edit- They mostly didn’t but they did bust out If You Have to Ask (you’ll never know. Funky motherfucker will not be told to go-oh-oh-oh.” Last time I saw them play that was Bonnaroo 2012. Not hating. Got 25 more minutes to navigate to see if they’ll give me one more song I might have wanted to see live.
We did get to say what's up to the Lettuce guys at Jam in the Van. Adam Deitch told me that Break Science was doing a show Thursday night at 1:30am. I have to work Friday, but I'm going to try to find a way to pull that off.
Still rolling along. I went to the inaugural Daze Between festival put on by Paul Levine (Hulaween, Bear Creek) Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon at a brewery in the East. Both days were headlined by double sets of String Cheese Incident. Tuesday also had Snarky Puppy who was killer, Erica Falls, Nigel Hall of Lettuce with his band. Nicolas Payton and Eric Krasno Band. Yesterday was with Lettuce, Iceman Special and Rebirth Brass Band. Wednesday’s two SCI sets were great and better than both good Tuesday sets. But Billy Strings sat in with Cheese for a cover of Ramblin’ Man on Tuesday. Weedie Braimah came out and played a hand drum with Snarky Puppy as well.
Hippy crowd with everyone from jam families with small kids to threadheads. There were a couple spun mfers but mostly it was just people drinking beer and partying. Good times. I might walk down to the FG today to see Billy Strings. Jabco ran into him downtown yesterday and said what’s up to Billy who was wearing a brand new Cheese shirt he must have gotten for doing that song with them.
