Eh. So I’m not Dr Know [tm] and I love me some Cabernet Sauvignon. But it’s a giant world. Cabs when on the higher side and properly aged can be up with the good stuff. But how many local wines never leave a 5 mile radius? I don’t know because I don’t live in a coastal region where wine is grown. I always think of mountain, cliff or hill sides with foggy mornings, ample rainfall and a warm sunny growing season. The more people spend on bottles and turn me on to better shit, the more I realize how much I don’t know about wine. Argentina. California. France. Italy. New Zealand. Australia. Chile. South Africa. Oregon. Washington state. All those regions produce ridiculous shit.
At the same time I’m stuck in a Chris Cornell kick before going to bed. I so hate that I’ll never get to see Soundgarden again. Or Audioslave. Or Temple of the Dog. Or even Cornell solo. Top 1 Hangout show for me of the 4 years I went. I don’t really know depression, so Sweet Sunshower didn’t register at the empathetic levels it maybe should have. But damn if it isn’t up there with some of the most heart strummed and heartstrung songs ever to come out of rock. Fuck some shit.

Esteban I love you but I'm talking about wines you can buy for $15 at the grocery store or $9 a glass at a midrange restaurant

Haha it’s all good. I have a couple rich but not “nobility rich” cousins who pour shit that I taste and go “damn.” And that’s not even over 50 or 60. So I know the elite and super elite world exists just a hair beyond my grasp. Viva the south.

I've heard good things about Mr Joe's wine selection so I'll swing by there today or tomorrow

$25-30 is as high as we’ve ever went on a bottle of wine.
What I will say is this, I will agree than anything above 30 bucks does not taste that different and is all power plays from the buyer
in my very limited experience, I disagree with this. I have had stupid stupid priced wine before and it is very very good. not something Id ever buy for myself tho
I am not a drinker, but I had a $40 bottle of wine on my 31st birthday (at Emeril's) that was the best alcohol I have ever had in my life. Of course I drank the whole bottle and don't remember the name.

A $40 bottle at a restaurant is a $20 bottle retail.
I’ve found that $4 wine is just as good as more expensive wine.
I'm the bougie fuck here.. but absolutely lies.
Treat yo self to a $22-30 bottle wine is the life, though I sometimes just grab a 16 dollar red.
I would be living in my car if I did this.
Also a Carménère is hard to find around here, but it is my favorite. It is a finicky grape, like Pinot noir, so I always wonder how much of what I am buying is the real deal.
Remember the Pinot noir scandal that happened about 10 years ago or so? The grape is so delicate and difficult to grow that wine makers were using less fussy grapes, like Merlots, and passing them off as Pinots.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

"I am not drinking any fucking Merlot!!"
Well I'm the one who buys 8% beers as my main stay... lol but I will treat myself if I get a bottle of wine (usually after a big gig/check has come through)
my uncle used to live on ~acre in Napa valley. He grew olives but his house was surrounded by huge grape farms(?). they didn't make wine themselves, but grew the grapes and sold them to the wineries. One night we had a big birthday party for my nephew and a bunch of the neighbors came over. This dude in some nuthugging jeans, cowboy boots and hat, and a dale earnhardt t-shirt brought over a cab from a nearby winery that gave it to him because it came from his grapes. He didn't drink wine (he drank PBR all night). It was the best wine I've ever had, and he laughed and was like "enjoy it, they tell me it sells for over $200 a bottle." He gave my uncle a whole case.
But thanks to my partner having worked at a boutique winery for a little, I've tried some pretty expensive wines. I'd say there is some correlation to cost especially from like $5 to $30. Personal preference is definitely the biggest thing though. I've had $10 wines taste better than $150 wines and I think most of the best I've tasted are in the $20-30 range. Its really more of my partner's passion and I'm just lucky enough to tag along and drink good wine, but I do think a lot of the stuff over like $100 is just people acting like they have some higher knowledge. That $4 trader joes is plenty drinkable
I can't believe that potentpotables not only said there's a better tailgate than Clemson, but he didn't even mention going. And his team beat a Clemson team that won a national championship. How could you leave that out?

When talking about tailgates I was focused on the SEC ones I have attended. Clemson would probably be first for friendliness/scene, 2nd for food, and the game was better at Clemson Death Valley than LSU Death Valley.
